I've used this product off and on for the past 10 years or so never really sticking to it because my face always started to peel after a few days. My question is if I start all over again with the lowest % which is 0.05% about how long should I stay on this before going stronger? I am in my mid 60"s but my skin is in very good condition, it's gravity I can't deal with. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Is there a difference between the gel and cream? If I start out with 0.25% should I get the cream or gel, I will be getting this from ADC.
I'm sorry I posted the wrong amount, if I started out with the lowest which is I believe 0.05%, again, not sure. |

For me, it makes a big difference gel or cream - I have naturally dry skin and cream is better. You can get .025% and that is what I would recommend to start. Use it only one day in 4, then when side effects subside (redness, scaling, etc.), you can move up to once in 3 days, 2 days, etc. Then when you can tolerate .025 every day, add the next strength every fourth day, etc. It does take time, but it is worth it. This is what my PS prescribed.
Also, carefully measure the amount you use - really not much bigger than a pea for your whole face. Dot the product across your forehead, cheeks, chin and neck and then blend. Until I used this method I found Retin A almost impossible to tolerate. Luckily I found a doctor who explained all this to me.
That being said I am now 63, have used Retin A for 15 years and believe that it does have long term benefits.
BTW don't forget that this medication makes your skin more sensitive to sun exposure. I never go out without sunscreen AND an umbrella if it is sunny.
Good luck. |
