I'm looking for the best tool to STRENGHTEN facial muscles. Ive read the forums on each of these but have found nothing current. The facial muscles on my right side are not as strong as the muscles on my left side leaving me with a very crooked smile. I've tried the Facial Flex, and Flex Effect exercises. I can see the benefit of the Flex Effect exercises, but really think the weak muscles would benefit from electrical stimulation first. Once they are strengthened I think the Flex Effect exercises would be beneficial. Thank you for taking the time to respond! |

I have experience with galvanic stuff (Tua viso and Rio Neck Toner) - used it several years ago, not really happy with them, too much time needed for one session and I found that I really always need a mirror with them because possibilities for erroneous placements are huge. I preferred Rio (although it uses a gel) because of 3 modes and smaller and found it less messy (I used Rio with Tua Viso diagrams) - with Tua Viso I always spilled water, maybe it is just me. No experience with Tua Trend but it looks small. Anyway, after some time of trying, gave up on them, no real results...
In terms of microcurrents, I have 2 devices, NuFace (almost 2 months) and one small one from ebay. I am quite happy with them, I have some asymmetry due to side sleeping, and do more passes on that side. I think the speed of getting results is awesome They really sort of lift the side that is drooping.
Nuface has simple (5 minutes) and advanced (15 minutes) routines depending on how much time you have. Gel is needed so a bit messy, but for me, results are worth it.
I didn't consider pico due to both price and expertise required - I wanted to be certain that microcurrents work for me.
I am doing facial exercises as well and the results are rather slow (6 months now which is apparently not sufficient for significant changes, anyway not really on the scale of microcurrents). Also, not every area is covered with microcurrents, so I think continuing exercises is important...
This is my experience, whatever you choose, it will have to be a long time commitment and I would also suggest being realistic with yourself how much time are you willing to invest and how much effort into learning to use it properly...

Thank you so much for answering maggie_p. I'm having a very similar situation. I've been a right side sleeper my entire life, and I'm sure the asymmetry is from the side sleeping. I'm going to give the Nuface a go. I'm willing to put in the time. Hopefully it will give the muscles a boost so I can at least try to do the facial excercises down the road |

Good luck! It is quite a simple device, check out their videos to see how it works and what are the impacted areas. My other device is KD 7701 and I use it on eye and mouth area (like ELE Nuface).
Btw, I am in my early forties, some drooping due to 10 kg weight loss. I think when looking at reviews, it is useful to have reviews from your own age group (or somebody with a similar starting point), devices might work differently/requite more or less time to see results depending on the starting point. |

I have not been to the forum for quite some time now but I been using Pico Toner for about two years. I had previously only used facial exercise for tone, lift and fullness. I have totally ditched facial exercise in lieu of the Pico toner because it lifts my face and fills it out better. Facial exercise was starting to make my face look more gaunt.
I also own the probes and they are AMAZING offering even better lift than the gloves IMHO... Anyone who is interested, I just received an email from Neurotris that PICO is on sale for the holidays for $395.00... I paid over $500.00 for mine. But it's been worth every penny to me. I use it with Ageless Secret Gold which enhances the efficacy of the device. Love it! Merry Christmas to All! |

Hi Aprile,
I have been wondering how you were and if you were still using the pico and also Ageless Secret.
I just started using my pico regularly about a month ago or so. We have been traveling internationally and domestically and just relocated and are settled in for the next few months. I ordered the probes since the gloves that came w/the pico were irritating to my skin. I do like the probes, but have recently found out that the company also now carries less irritating gloves for those of us who have sensitive skin and I am going to order a pair.
I am surprised at how much the pico is sculpting my face in such short time..especially under my chin/neck area.
Are you doing any new 'moves' w/the pico.
Do you still use P2 on your lower face. If so, do you do special moves on that program or just rest the probes on your skin? |

Sorry Maggie but Tua Viso and Rio Neck Toners aren’t galvanic but more microcurrent stimulation. Galvanic is more to do with using a machine to push ingredients further into the skin. Neither Rio and Tua Viso push ingredients into the skin. Just wanted to clarify that. I used the Tua Viso and always found the water too messy for my liking and I also found that getting the prob placements correct was difficult. I went to a workshop with Tina Richards some years ago and she looked great but it was very apparent to me that she was using the best of the best skincare, and nutrition. So I wasn’t convinced her results was just from Tua if that makes sense but more of a combo of all of those things.
With facial exercises I’m not convinced 6 months isn’t long enough – which program are you doing? I suppose it depends where you are starting from but in my experience you should see results within a month of starting. Most of my friends who I got doing them saw changes with their eyes and lips within a month – and that was for people 50 and above. Where did you hear 6 months is too short? I guess it depends where you start off from as well. I started off after rapid weightloss – and so had major sagging etc to deal with and that took a year to get rid of completely.

Hi TheresaMary,
Sorry, but Tua Viso and Rio Toner are not microcurrents, they cause visible muscle contractions. I apologize about using the wrong term, not really certain what the correct one is, faradic or EMS? The point is that they are not microcurrents, microcurrents are not supposed to be felt, or cause visible twitching. Agree about messy Tua Viso and difficult placements
The part about facial exercises was a side comment, everybody here states about them taking a long time (for example, 3-6 months to figure out whether the program works for you, improvements happening for several years etc, I can copy paste where program authors of various programs say that). I did see results, but after a month of Nuface which is a starter microcurrent device, I was incredibly impressed (not subtle differences like after 6 months of exercises but quite visible ones). So, the point I am trying to make is that microcurrent for me is producing a lot faster results. I'm in my early 40s.
Great to hear that it took you a year to get rid of your major issues! If you don't mind me asking, which program did you use during that year (I have read that you do a lot of systems and mix and match, but I assume that this first year was a start and you used only one system).
I tried Eva's system (was not really committed so can't comment on efficiency), did Carole Maggio (was not happy with some results so started tweaking the routines after 1 month), some Peta's exercises, Tom Hagerty's scalp one, lately, Ageless if you dare. The key reason why I'm experimenting with all these (as opposed to sticking with one for long time) is that I end up with more pronounced NL because my cheek muscles somehow end up too big near my mouth (but not lifted) so that produces not so nice effect. Ageless also caused that effect so I am backing out. I do not plan to stick to a program if I am not happy with the results. I am not blaming the exercises, I do realize all our faces are different, I ended up with the same issue using different programs, and the results for me are much better when I add my modifications.
The area that I feel has not progressed sufficiently in the 6 months is jowls and neck. Microcurrents are great for that. Lifting cheeks, also great, and no danger of producing a more pronounced NL fold

The Tua Viso uses microcurrent but you are right that it causes visible muscle contractions – but that doesn’t subtract from the fact it causes those visible contractions using microcurrent. Don’t know about the Rio Toner. Microcurrents can be felt depending on the strength used. If you have a caci facial they can be very powerful if set to the upper levels and cause visible contractions but do so using microcurrent technology. So I’m not sure I’m understanding if you know microcurrent well but it can cause visible contractions without being unclassified as microcurrent. One of the selling points of TV to me was that it was microcurrent.
Re facial exercises – taking a long time as I said previously may have to do where a person is starting off from and their aspirations. However that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get results. I have a collection of programs from the last 10 plus years that I have used and nowadays do a combo of all of them but I built up to doing that and didn’t do it overnight or in a short space of time, but each and every program I have used has delivered me some results that motivated me to keep going.
I started out with Facial Magic which I hated. Couldn’t get to grips with it but tried for about 4 months and then moved onto Eva Fraser which I used solely for a year (but this was back in the late 90’s. I also went and had some lessons with Eva herself (for a sum) and that was great too. I then tried Facercise for a while, then FlexEffect, then Face Yoga and Method Putkisto and a whole host of other ones but you are talking 10 years worth of time and that was quite easy to put a few programs in place. I do mix and match but I know my face better than anyone and whilst I did some programs fully for years, those programs were with their creators idea of what an ideal face is and based on their own faces – not mine – so I got creative.
It may be worth while having a 1-1 with Maggio or Peta or Loulou. They can advise you on how not to get pronounced NLs etc.

Hi Everyone ... I have the NuFace Mini and have been using it for about a week and definitely notice a difference. My skin is smoother, more glowy, and lifted. In response to "feeling" it, I really feel it with its on the highest setting and especially when it gets near my hair line. Wowza! It's like an electrical shock, like as if my hair is standing on end. Anyway, I loved the results so much that began to use it twice a day. Does anyone know of any drawbacks to that?
Another machine that I love is the Tria eye laser! |
