Many apologies if this question has been asked before, I did a search for this question already but couldn't find a specific thread.
I just turned 48, my skin is in pretty decent shape except for a few lines, reduced firmness and a bit of sun damage. I have a variety of products but don't want to overuse or overdo anything. I just started Retin-A 0.25%, so far I've used it only once a week because I don't want to irritate or dry out my skin.
Anyway, I'm not sure how often to use my other products, how/when to alternate, and/or whether to use them in conjunction with each other. Here's what I have:
Retin-A 0.025%
NCN Multi-Active Peptide Matrixyl Serum 25%
Kassy's Vitamin C + E + Ferulic Acid (thanks Kassy!)
Derma-e Vitamin E moisturizing cream, which I mix with a powedered resveratrol (only at night)
MUAC Gly-Uronic Acid Serum (which I know not to use at the same time as Retin-A)
And sunscreen, of course.
So far I've been using Retin-A once a week before bed, and the NCN serum a few times a week.
Does anyone have any advice/thoughts on how and when to use each of these? I may be able to do without one or two of them but I really have no idea. I want to be careful about not overwhelming my skin and hurting rather than helping.
Thank you so much in advance! |

There's no reason not to do the peptide serum every day. I'd probably do the Vitamin C + E + Ferulic Acid and then (after waiting a while) the peptide serum daytime.
Since you're still only doing Retin-A once a week it depends on the % of AHA's as to how often to use it. I tend to back way off using aha when using Retin-A but then I worked up to every night-RA- (now I do RA every other night).
Resveratrol is sensitive to light so it is best to use at night but your cream is highly emollient too. You can use it after the Retin-A at night but you should wait a while to apply it so that you don't dilute it too much. Applying a moisturizer after RA will buffer some of the effects so it might make it easier for you to use more often. |

It seems a bit overkill with all those great ingredients. The once per week with the Retin A is good. I would alternate the days with your other products. Maybe leave the glycolic out altogether or use it up and dont repurchase next time. |

Thanks so much, tigerlily009 and SusieQ--yeah, I thought all the products might be overkill, especially Retin A plus AHA. I only just got the RA Rx so I'll stop with the AHA for the foreseeable future until my skin gets used to the RA.
I appreciate your help with this, it helps to know how, when, and in what order to apply things! |
