I have been using Bare Escentuals mineral foundation since April 2004. I really liked the idea that it may help with my breakouts and that it didn't have the heavy feeling of liquid foundation.
But, I am finding that the powder foundation makes me look older and makes the fine lines around my eyes (age 40) and my very large pores more visible. It seems to settle in every pore and crease. I exfoliate regularly and wait 5 minutes after putting on my moisturizer, but I just can't seem to get that nice smooth matte look. And, I was still getting the same amount of breakouts as I was with liquid foundation.
So, I was in a pinch this weekend and needed foundation, and I ended up purchasing a liquid foundation by Neutrogena called Healthy Skin Enhancer. It's a very sheer foundation (which is usually not something I would normally use because I like lots of coverage to conceal my breakouts). It has Retinol in it, oil-free as well as SPF 20. I am happy to say that it goes on very nice and my pores are not as obvious and gives the right amount of coverage.
But, I will not give up my Bare Escentuals Clear Radiance. This is a must have! |

Hi Mysty
My Mom had the same problem with her Bare Escentuals foundation as it seemed to enhance her lines and also made her look older!
I haven't tried the radiance, I just have the foundation, Warmth and mineral veil. What does the radiance do and when do you apply it?

I have also started using that Neutrogena Foundation and it is very light, also helps cover my large pores..a makeup artist used the Bare Essentuals on me for my sisters wedding and it gave me a cake look and it also accentuated my fine lines around the eyes..Really did not like it!! |

I had the same problem with BE Just seemed to settle in the lines under the eyes. Quite a shame as I liked the finish otherwise.
The Clear Radiance is a must though.

Hi Sus, I find that no two days are the same as far as my BE foundation goes, it doesnt help putting it on in semi darkness each morning. I have found however that using the Jane Iredale Circle Delete does help around the eyes, Ive only used it twice but am impressed. That and the Cellcosmet seems to be turning things around. Not to mention the Vivier, so thanks to all those who were patient with me in my Vit C freaking days. |

I have been using the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enhancer only 2 days, and when I look in the mirror I look more youthful and dewey. I am just hoping that my breakouts stay under control. |

Hi Cindi!
That's great! It does feel good when the skin starts shaping up.
I have about 3 large pimples on the my face right now, which is pretty good for me. In the past, I usually have at least 20! I think my new skincare regimen (Vit. C/AHA Serum) is really helping. |

Maybe you should invest in the Juveil too, its a wierd liquid, looks like brown muddy water.... Very sterile smell too |

Yeah it know what you mean. What I also found was that I could leave the house looking OK, but within a couple of hours being in work with the air conditioning I looked 5 - 10yrs older |

I find that too with the BE and even the much loved JI powders. But, what I like is that I look the same all day, with liquid foundation, it's melted off by noon and it seems to settle into my pores. I'm 34, maybe I won't feel the same in a few years. My main concern I guess is make-up lasting, not melting off and that it feels light. All liquid foundation I've tried is cloying, like my skin is sufficating. I've tried MK, Lancome, Clinique, MAC and many others. I could try higher line stuff (Chanel, etc) but I also don't like to spend too much. So, powder foundation, BE for me, is the perfect product. Around the undereye I don't use powder, I'm waiting for my circle delete and am using a MAC concealer until then. The key too with the powder foundation is to not use too much, it took me months to figure that out! |

Just out of curiosity, those of you that are finding the BE or the JI settling in lines and looking powdery etc, do you set it with a face stritz or just apply and go? I'm just wondering because I haven't had those problems but then again I always stritz.... |

Hi Mabsy!
I didn't set the mineral powder with anything. Do you spray something on after?
Maybe it's me, but it seems that the mineral powder foundations work better on younger skin. |

I think you are right, MystyPines. I only find it settling in lines (very fine smile lines under my eyes) if I use too much, then I spritz. Since I've started using less though I don't spritz and I don't find it settling in to lines or pores at all. I use less since switching to applying with the JI flocked sponge, it smooths it out well too so maybe that's why it's not settling into lines or accentuating my pores. |

I only used it for my sisters wedding and she did not spitz anything on me..so maybe that is why I had those results. But I have seen my sister use and she does not spritz and it looks beautiful on hers, but then again she has flawless skin and is only 24, so that may be a factor, I have very flreckly and sun damaged skin.. |

I've tried with and without with the same results. I've tried various eye creams, concealers and different application methods but I always end up with it settling under my eyes making the skin look all crepey. The rest of my face looks fine |

I personally don't do well with BE, it makes my pores larger and makes my face cakey in the afternoon (I have oily skin).
I read so many good reviews about Clear Radiance and want to give it a try with my next EDS order. Since it's a pink powder, can someone please tell me if it's ok to use on yellow undertone skin? Will I look weird with a pinky powdery face? |

i found i couldn't use it as a powder foundation at all. i had to mix it with a face "cream" and put it on like liquid foundation. defeats the purpose somewhat but still looks better than straight liquid foundation i think. |

I found that by spritzing Burt Bee's carrot seed oil complexion mist before and after application of bare minerals helps.
Also, check if you're applying to much foundation and/or mineral veil - it looked cakey on me the first attempts, then realized you go slow and let the first layer warm up and blend in. |
