Have just got my sons cystic acne under control and now really want to help him with normalising his skin, getting rid of redness and indents.
Any advice very much appreciated as this is all new to me. |

Hey!
Have you spoken with a local esthetician? If you find a reputable spa that offers skin peels, I would suggest getting a round of those before putting him on Retin-A. Men's skin tends to be thicker and oilier and a skin professional can get into his pores, clear them, and ideally help with his redness and scarring.
Anyone can get on Retin-A but it is very aggressive and if he is particularly active and outside a lot, it may be a better idea to wait on the topical creams. Opt for some skin peels and some good sunscreen for him. Consider working up to Retin-A from there. Paula's Choice has a good men's line with an excellent moisturizer (it contains retinol). If you want to see how his skin reacts to the ingredient, try looking into it. It's affordable and effective. |

Retin-A probably won't do much, if anything at all, for indented scarring. It also takes weeks to months to initially start seeing results.
I also think that light to medium peels would be a good place to start. There are many different kinds that will help rejuvenate skin and help with the overall texture and redness that is leftover from his acne.
Look up local spas and set up a consult to get more in depth info about the different treatments. |

0.1% Retin A, which I think is the strongest form, has done very little for my acne scarring. I have some rolling indented scars and some icepick scars. |
