best Vitamin C serums?

I was recently told that Vitamin C will even out my skin tone and discolorations in the skin. As I am shopping around for one to start out with, I'm wondering if there really is a difference between the ones out there that are $25 to the ones that are $80?

What Vitamin C products have people tried and/or recommend?

Vitamin C should even out your skin color and may also help with lines and pigmentation. No doubt that there are also invisible results that will protect your skin from some further environmental damage.

The most important thing to consider when getting a C serum is the type of vitamin C (relates to stability of the serum), the concentration, and also the packaging. I would go for a serum that has l-ascorbic in it and that is packaged in an amber bottle to protect it from light (which vit C is sensitive to). My personal fave are the Vivier serums so far because I prefer the texture of it and I also consider it to be very stable (doesn't turn orange quickly). Other popular brands here are Cellex-C, Skinceuticals and CellularSkinRx.

Hi Stephie, I was driven round the bend with talk of vitamin c before I finally made the purchase. In the end I opted for Vivier 5 for my eyes and Vivier 20 for my face. So far so good, though I find it tricky to apply cause its so watery. I havent been using a moisturiser too and its not drying my face which is a real bonus. Good luck with your choice Wink

I second Mabsy's advice. You also want to look for a serum with a low pH (~2-3). This will result in maximum absorption. Also the stability of the solution factors in too. Some of the newer serums out there use microdelivery systems that time release the vitamin C into your skin. This results in less irritation & the solution will not lose potency in the bottle.
