I have been afraid to start using a vitamin C-serum because my skin is quite dry, but I guess that's the next item to add to my skincare regimen. I am already using a cream with glycolic acid, which has improved my skin a lot; it is no longer Sahara-like, but is behaving more normal.
Apart from dryness, I have no real skin concerns, but better to be safe than sorry...
Any product recommendations for me? Thoughts on this issue?
For the record: I'm 33, dry skin, no visible signs of aging (and as I live up in Northern Norway, sun exposure is moderate ) |

Hi nemi, Im no expert on vitamin c but I have been using it for nearly 3 weeks and have had no issues with it at all. My skin was a little dry as I started to use it from another product. I even used it for a week without using a moisturiser and my skin was probably better that week than when I use a moisturiser.
Am sure some C experts will have some good advice for you |

Nemi,
If your only concern is dryness, just make sure that you use a serum that has moisturizing properties too (the one I use is in a base of hyaluronic acid, so it's very moisturizing), or if you do experience dryness, just make sure to use a good moisturizer over it. If you have really sensitive skin, I would start out with a lower concentration like 10-15%. If not, then you could try 15-20%. Usually the irritation comes from the low pH and not so much the ascorbic acid. Which is why getting a serum that is low in pH but also buffered with a skin protectant is ideal.
Hope that helps!

vivier is one brand that's known to be not drying.
If you're very dry you'll probably want to use a hyaluronic acid product too, like Skinceuticals B5 gel..use it after the c serum and before your moisturizer. It helps bind moisture to your skin. |

I'm a big fan of the cellularskinrx C serum. It's very slippery and soaks in quickly without leaving your skin sticky or dry. Not too expensive either. C is so wonderful for your skin. You get the brightening and the better texture...it's been so great for me. I don't feel like I have to wear make-up all the time now. |

If you're interested in Vitamin C, you will get better results from using a 15%-20% with a pH of at or just under 3. I use Ultraceuticals 20% in an anhydrous base, which will also help with dryness. Over that I use a peptide gel/cream with great results. Is your climate dry in Norway?
Additionally, you might switch from glycolic acid to lactic acid, because lactic is also moisturizing in addition to being a great alpha hydroxy acid. Doesn't work as quickly as glycolic, but is also less irritating than glyco.
Hope this information is helpful,

UltraSkin,
You said that it's in an anhydrous base. Just out of curiosity, what are the other ingredients (besides the vitamin-c?)
Thanks,
Darren

Where can I get hold of products from CellularskinRX, and do they ship internationally? Also, any specific product recommendations for me to start with? I've been looking at Skinceuticals and Cellex-C,but just get confused with the whole thing.
I love my MD Facial Cream, so will keep that in my routine. I just thought Vit C would be nice to add for prevention.
The climate here is the opposite of dry; I live on the coast, and the temperature stays pretty moderate all year round. |

Since using C serums and HA serums my skin has gone from crispy dry to normal. I don't know which one did it, or if it's the combo of the both, but I am never switching! |

Hi there, the Vivier range of vitamin c products are very skin-comforting....I have used the their Serum C 20% and it leaves my skin feeling almost like it doesn't need a moisturizer (I'm 40, very fair and sun-sensitive).

You can get the cellular skin C serum at cellularskinrx.com. They do ship to Canada (for just $2.00!!!) and also to other countries. |

Thanks I saw that international shipping wasn't that expensive either, most probably 9$ for one item.
I'm thinking seriously about giving the Vivier Kine-C a try, and in addition I would probably need a moisturizing serum, right? Or can I try with my normal (rich) moisturizer, and add a serum later, if it turns out to be necessary. |

You can always use strong L-ascorbic (Vitamin C) formulations in a cream form, as I have seen them on the market. Have you considered this? |

I'd go the vitamin C serum route - vut I'm a hardcore vitamin C serum nut. I like to think that somehow the results are more direct and immediate using a serum...but that's just me...

has anyone tried La Roche-Posay's Activ C serum?
I am not sure if its a good serum but my mom's dermatologist recommended it.
I just got myself a tube (light formula) 3 days ago. I noticed a tad dryer skin but it didn't bother me much because, i don't know if its just me or did my skin really become more radiant. |
