Alright, so I was thinking about a post someone had a while back, about tanning drying out their zits... and it got me wondering if that were true or not? Because I used to be a Tanning Bed Worshipper, and never had any zits, but then I gave it up on my 22 birthday, and voila, pizza face !! No honestly, within a couple months I had these underground chin pimples and I couldn't understand for the life of me why? I thought it was my age or something. Someone was telling me yesterday "wait until your 25 & your metabolism slows down", and I said to them "hopefully it doesn't happen as fast as I got zits turning 22!". But, if UV rays help dry out zits, maybe they help prevent them too? Maybe that's why, when I gave up tanning, a month later I got zits, and have had them ever since? Has anyone ever heard of this before, or am I just going crazy?? |

ktsweets, no you're not going crazy - I've heard of this too! When I had a facial done, the beautician advised me to use a sunbed for a few mins each month to prevent pimples. Apparently the benefits would outweigh the risks she said. Haven't taken her advice, but there could be some truth in it.. although I'm sure people would say that even a minute under a sunbed is a minute too long.. |

tanning beds get rid of my zits...but they gave me wrinkles and sun damage...I think I'll take the zits over the wrinkles and sun spots!!!!! |

ktsweets, that's my hope too!! My skin has gotten better, but still isn't as clear as I'd like. I found jane iredale makeup that covers the spots REALLY well! |

If you have zits. i wouldn't go to the tanning bed. i'd treat them, there are products like obagi and retin-A that work wonders. i would think yes if you go tanning that will dry out the zits. but you also getting damage to the skin, that old tanned skin just sits on your face clogging pores. here you go thats where the zits come in. |

skinprofusion, I hear what you're saying, but isn't retin-a or obagi a bit extreme for a few spots? Not saying that I'd pick the sunbed instead, its just that I thought those treatments were aimed at acne? |

Well, right now I'm using glycolic acid products, so going tanning is out of the question (Sun damage double time, I would imagine)! However I think it's interesting that tanning beds can prevent/dry-up zits - but what is it about them that does the trick? There's no way you could wear sunblock in the tanning bed & still get the zit-zappin power of the rays, could you? I know, I know, silly question, but I'm still curious.... |

ktsweets,
I'm not sure...I never used sunblock in a bed when I was tanning.
I don't know how to explain it but I it's similar to how in the summer your skin clears up, and in the winter the zits appear. The beds stimulate what happens in the summer that makes your skin clear.
Make sense?? |

mmmhmm, I guess wearing sunblock in a tanning bed would be pretty ridiculous... but I just think of how clear my skin was when I was a Tanner! Not to mention tan Oh well, I guess I'll just stick w/ my St Tropez...
Lianne - I was thinking of trying the Jane Iredale dissappear concealer (the one I use now covers SO GOOD but it has mineral oil in it - not good for zits!) is that what you use? |

Hello..rzecka. retin-A/obagi is not just for acne..it's for overall health of your skin. it is bit extreme. if you'd like something less extreme. maybe a little glycolic would do the trick |

I have heard that tanning beds help clear up zits before too, but no more tanning beds for me. For some reason my skin reacts in tanning beds much more than it does to normally being in the sun. I have hyperpigmentation spots on my face that came from a single day in a tanning bed. Ones that I am not sure that I will ever be able to get rid of completely. I also am much more prone to getting freckels in tanning beds. They just nuke me. |
