well i put them in the drying machine, at medium heat. they're these really nice black pin strip pants i got from Club Monaco unfortunately shy of 160 dollars.

i've had them for only one day! and now there's a BIG nice hole in them burnt through right above the left back pocket.

there's a tag that says Dry Clean Only...but I didn't wash them in the machine, I just put them in the dryer to 'freshen' them up.

do you think they will let me exchange them? i really like these pants

Well, it's worth a shot but I wouldn't be too hopeful -- I'm afraid 'dry clean only' applies to both washers and dryers :/

OMG Edenfield - I feel for you! I bought this really fabuolous shirt, spilled something on it - thought I was a "bright light" by quickly dousing it with club soda...(which was a good idea)...the problem started when I tried to spot dry it with my hair dryer....the material just melted/disintegrated right there! I was devastated!!!

I don't know how you would manage to return them without having to fabricate some "out of this world" story! I really don't think they're going to let you return them...but you've got nothing to lose by trying!
*fingers crossed for you* Embarassed

I do things like that all the time! You should try being really nice and sweet when you take them back to the store. You could say they were accidently put in the dryer, or you just don't know how that hole got there but thank goodness you weren't injured Wink Pants that cost $160.00 should not melt!
If they don't take them back, you could try to have them re-woven. It's amazing how well it works. Good luck from a gal who's husband helped with the laundry by throwing a cashmere sweater in the dryer!!! joani

yeah i phoned and spoke to the manager. i was actually suprisingly cheery and hopefully that came through. she said that the manufactures policy was that if it was put through the machine basically no. but she would ask someone higher up, and if not she would get it mended.

You’re probably going to be hesitant to take my advice after the little *misunderstanding* about the haircut suggestions I gave you Embarassed Wink and it might be too late anyway since you’ve already spoken to the store manager, but what I would have done in your place would be to brazen it out and lie my head off!! (Hey, what can you expect from someone who brings her own jar in order to make her own Dr. Hauschka bronzer product sample at Whole Foods??) I would have waited a few days after I bought the pants, then I would have taken them back to the store and showed the hole to the clerk and told her that that is what happened when you took them to the dry cleaners, that the dry cleaner man told you that the pants just sorta ‘melted’ when he was dry-cleaning them and that he advised you to take the pants back to the store where you bought ‘em and demanded a refund or replacement because pants aren’t supposed to melt like that when they’re run thru the dry-cleaning machine!!!

I agree with carekate, as long as you come over as genuine they should refund and if they refuse ask if there is someone you can write to. Then if you write explain carekates story, back it up with the name of a dry cleaner, say you realise the store lady who refused you is only doing her job but that you have always been a good customer and feel let down.

Then you slink quietly away into the night without another peep, to remember thereafter that “Dryclean Only” means “DRYCLEAN ONLY”!!!!

Ladies, ladies...I'm shocked by your dishonest suggestions Wink

As someone who has managed a retail store in the past I can honestly tell you that store managers have heard it all, and we generally know when we are being lied to. The bottom line in all retail stores, where I have worked anyway, is that no matter what the company policy on returns, it is always at the managers discretion to accept returns or not. We can always send the merchandise out as a defect...Honesty is the best policy here.

On a nother note, fabric standards are highly regulated in the US and Canada. The average fabric is is put through anywhere from 3 to 20 quality tests. Anything that happens at the cleaners is generally not a fabric issue, it is a dry cleaning issue.

How big is the hole? Since it's above a rear pocket, maybe you could take some fabric from the inside hem and patch it using sheer, iron-on fusible tape between the layers. Or maybe a wide belt (or a few thin ones together) would cover it. I once had to do this 10 yrs. ago to a sleeve on an Issey Miyake jacket that cost $650 *on sale*. It was a cigarette burn. Did I quit smoking? Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes :
