I, infact, saw one the other day at Shoppers Drug Mart, as I was cruising the isles. It should be available all over the place now, considering it's the Holiday Season, and Conair will want people to buy their new product!

I might be wrong (I often am)...but I think Conair refers to it with the word "strengthener"

This is an exerpt from the November issue of Allure mag on this new product:

"When flatironing hair, the goal is a glassy finish -- and now Conair may have a better means to that end. Its new Glass Plate Strengthener iron replaces the usual metal or ceramic surface with glass, which the company claims is easier on hair. 'A glass plate creates a lot less friction than metal, which means less breakage,' explains cosmetic chemist James Hammer. 'Most ceramic irons have a glazed surface. But the smoother the surface, the smoother the hair -- and glass is about as smooth as you can get.' Bottom line: the new iron glided through our hair and left it shinier than our usual straightener."

You might trywww.ULTA.COM ...I’m not 100% sure they carry it, but I know they carry most Conair heat appliance products.

FYI - I have super-short wavy hair, so I don’t use a flat-iron and have no opinion to give on which is the best brand to buy....

Found it!!! Conair must have just shipped their suppliers...cause it is everywhere! It is available in 3/4 inch or 2".

Just what I need another flat iron!!!! I'll let everyone know my opinion after I give it a try!

all these products for straightening hair..what about those of us with stick straight and thin hair? I can't get hot roller curls to last more than half an hour (unless I use cement-like hairspray)..even when my hairdresser does it.

lianne, I am with you on this! My hair is straight, and I've NEVER had success making it wavy or curly, whether it is a curling iron, hot rollers, leave-in rollers -- nothing! Why don't they make something effective for making your hair wavy or curly??

Hi Chimera and Liane

have you tried Ceramic Perm - it's really natural and the process basically change the structure of your hair to make it more "accepting" to the curl rollers. I too have quite stubborn hair but my ceramic perm is very natural and lasted 6 months.

As I said in an earlier post, I have super-short wavy hair so I have no opinion to offer on the merits of glass vs. ceramic. I checked MUA to see if anyone had posted a review of the new glass straightener yet, but couldn’t find anything...in fact, the only reviews I could locate were on Epinions.com and Drugstore.com. Here’s the links iffen you want to read more about it:
http://www.epinions.com/pr-Styling_Tools-Conair_Professional_Instant_Heat_Hair_Straightener_CS19CS/display_~reviews

http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=84113&catid=29113&trx=29067&tab=1#1

Hey, I want to hear more about this ceramic perm, too! My mom is forever wrecking her hair with conventional perms, so maybe this is the answer she's been searching a lifetime for...?

Hi
There is not a lot of info on the internet about ceramic perm cos, I suspect, it originated from Japan.

It basically passes electro waves through your hair to change the protein structure of your hair.

It is NOT drying for sure.
You may want to check out this website just to have a look:

http://www.thesalon.com.sg/salon_chic/css.htm

However, it may not be suitable for short hair.

I know this is an old post, but I wanted to post an update...I’ve already told y’all that I don’t have a dog in this fight because: 1) I *like* wavy/curly hair, and 2) my hair is too short to straighten with a flat iron anyway!!

I saw in my recent issue of Lucky magazine (it’s a mag strictly devoted to shopping for beauty/skincare, fashion and home deco) that the latest offering on the flat iron front is one with “plates” made from...are you ready for this??...wait for it....are you sure you want to know?...okay, the latest must-have hair straightener is made with JADE plates!! Yes, the stuff they make jewelry, chess pieces and little statuettes out of. Don’t ask me why, but supposedly jade hair straighteners are supposed to be better than anything that’s come before. Whatever! I expect that some day we’ll come completely full-circle and the must-have hair straightening product will be to borrow your mother’s clothes iron....

Hey, I don’t make the news, I just report on it!

Exactly my sentiments, Chimera! Laughing I wonder how much this thing costs?! I don't believe that they don't damage your hair. How do they *not* damage your hair? I'm *so* skeptical... You're frying your hair straight, aren't you? I don't get it.

Oh, I know!! A couple months ago, when I was at my salon getting my highlights re-done, there was a girl in the next chair getting her hair straightened. Even though we were sitting about 5-6 feet apart, I could hear the *sizzle* each time the stylist straightened a hank of her hair. I’m sorry, but you can’t tell me that that is not actually harmful to your hair – I don’t care what kind of “thermal protectant” product you use before hand!!
