I didn't find any good discussions on this when I searched, so....what are everyone's opinions on the habit of chewing gum as it relates to facial appearance/aging?
I used to think that gum chewing caused wrinkles in the mouth area because that's what I'd always been told as a child. Now I am wondering if the repetitive movement isn't akin to a lower facial exercise. It could be both, or neither. How frustrating!
I can't find anything reliable in scientific literature, but if anybody has any insight or access to studies that I missed, PLEASE do share them! |

I don't think that its true. Because gum have other task and for making your skin better, you should use it all day |

Chewing gum will mostly develop the masticating muscles and can give you an appearance of a heavier jaw, with less of a "V" line type of contour.
I've recently came about a study titled " Sagging of the cheek is related to skin elasticity, fat mass and mimetic muscle function" and they concluded that the strength of teeth biting down on each other had no relation to cheek sagging. However they did find that having strong cheek and lip muscles is correlated with less sagging of the upper cheek. |
