I have always been told that clay masks help absorb excess oil and *clean* pores...
I get the absorbing oil idea...but *cleans out* pores? in what sense does clas masks clean the pores?
like before I did a clay mask I see all these black heads on my nose... after clay mask the black heads are still there...
ok im officially stupid. |

Well, I don't know for sure, but I think that as the mask absorbs excess oils, it should be lifting the dirt and oil out of the pores as well. Maybe if you still have a lot of blackheads after the mask, it is not working well for you . |

Hi April,
Many clay masks claim to draw impurities out of the skin, as well as absorbing oil. Whether this is true or not, I don't know.
I've tried a few drugstore masks, and if you're very oily they can give a nice temporary tightening sensation to the skin. Otherwise they don't seem to do anything really dramatic to the skin aside from making it feel nice for awhile afterward. I never had any of my blackheads vanish after using a mask either! |

If your clay mask isn't working well before try giving your face a steam bath beforehand. I boil a pot of water (about 1 inch high), take it off the flame, then stick my face over it and cover my head with a towel for 10-15 minutes. I then follow this with a clay mask. I've found this technique to be really helpful. |

Well, since I do a few things it's hard to say what exactly is working. I first massage my face with Dr H cleansing cream, then I steam then I use a clay mask. That combo has worked wonders for me!
There also was a post a few months ago where someone suggested jojoba oil. I tried what she suggested -- massaging jojoba oil into my face for 15-20 minutes and I could actually pop the blackheads out. It is VERY tedious but it does work quite nicely. |

i think im just not patient enough in general... i tried the oil massaging method too (with make up remover instead of jojoba oil) it felt like i did it for over 20 mins... maybe i gave up even before the clock hit 10mins.
with Dr. H CC... i always... ALWAYS cheat... i start pressing the stuff into my face for the first 10 secs.. then i start rubbing... >< and i tell myself everytime that next time i'd not rub... |

If you are looking for a mud mask that works, I have been using the Aveda's Deep Cleansing Herbal Clay masque for years and have loved the results.
Just due to the fact that I am a product junkie as we all are, I have recently been trying Caudalie's Masque Parifiant. I like it but as I finish the tube I think I will return to my Aveda mask. I never had a breakout as long as I used it once a week in addition to my regular routine. |
