Hi, I'm very interested in massage of all types, and use many as well as facial exercises, as I've mentioned often in this fórum.
My question here is if I may be lucky enough to hear from someone who may have had a massage by Nichola Joss; been reading, I don't know why about her just recently and wondered if maybe someone has had a session with her, as I see some bloggers have but don't go into details about what the "Inner Face Massage" involves really.
I'll post some links if it helps.

Someone wrote about it a little while ago and said it was strange but painful but didn't go into much detail. I know I read some time ago that she was filming a dvd (Nicola Joss) that would include massage techniques people could do at home which I will definitely buy when it becomes available! Would be interested in learning more. Maybe ifyou search you will find that original post by the person. |

I did a quick search on youtube and found https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMG2Qjr8CFg. 2 examples she gives look quite similar to some during Tanaka face massage...
She is apparently quite known for facial draining techniques, I am also quite curious about it... |

Hi, yes the korean massage video is very interesting. I don't undestand the language but I do tend to enjoy and learn from just watching too! |

To Atester or anyone else who watched the korean video in the comment section. Do you think she put her finger underneath the teeth or on top of the teeth when she pressed on the pressure point? I couldn't really tell. I tried both and it feels better underneath the teeth. |

Hi nycatlover, I just asume it is "on top of the teeth", that is holding the lip high up from the inside not the roof of the mouth or the back of the teeth. I hadn't thought about any other way, so I've checked the video once again and I still think is is on top of the teeth, if you see the public that is trying it out it looks the same... I personally find it far more intense to do it that way, pressing from the inside and the outside; going from behind the teeth it's just like having an anchor point to make more pressure on the accupressure point from the outside only with not much effect over it from the inside. Just my experience. See what others experiment and feel, we may make up an Inner Facial Massage with different opinions! Wish someone who understands Korean would come over and tell us! |

I did find this Japanese video interesting. This "girl" is 47! I know it is just lymph drainage massage, but she isn't doing it ON her face. If I do Tanaka, my face just wastes away. This may not be her only secret, but if it is, it definitely works.

Hi Grammalow, yes it is a video that appears amongst the responses of the info in the "intothegloss.com" link. I've tried to isolate it, see if I'm lucky.

Thank you! Sorry about my double post earlier. I must have hit the back arrow and thought it didn't post.
Very interesting video. The first time I saw it I thought she had her finger on the roof of her mouth. The next time it looked inside the lip. They never seem to zoom in when and where you really need it. The difference in the sides of that girl's face is pretty incredible. These people sure seem to know what they are doing. |

I followed the 'leads' in the articles to see if i could get any more info on this type of massage.
In one of the articles Nichola said that it was similar to the'Buccaling' technique used by certain facialists.
I followed that lead to a woman in france, Joelle Ciocco and some of her proteges…and eventually came up with the info that the Buccaling technique was based on the Rolfing technique, a whole body technique began by Ida Rolf where fascia is manipulated and released (not sure of the exact words to use here)
In investigating Rolfing, I found out that there is a session in the 10 session program that focuses on the face/skull and includes lots of time spent with the fingers of the therapist in the inside of the mouth of the patient manipulating/releasing the fascia in the inside of the jaw, cheeks, etc.
Anyway, I've just started to strongly massage the inside of my face, through my mouth, reaching up into the cheek area etc. I'm sure it is not like a professional Bucalling or Inner Face massage but it is relaxing and interesting to me, as it is one area that I have never deeply massaged before. |

A prominent protege of Joelle Ciocco is Isabelle Bellis, a Parisian, who has a salon in NYC. Her salon name is her name.
Under the massage services she offers she lists Le Buccal which she describes as manipulating the fascia inside the mouth, etc. |

Joeel Ciccco, by the way, is a Parisian celebrity derm/biochemist (similar to Nichola Joss) who also has her own skincare line. |

whoops, not saying that Nichola Ross is a derm/biochemist,just saying that they are both 'celebrity facialists'
ATester, if you are experimenting with your own Inner Face massage I would be interested in hearing your discoveries/process. |

Thanks, jasminerosey! You saved me a lot of typing. I did the same research, and have just been waiting to find a time to say all of that.
I have also been experimenting with inner facial massage. I work from the mid upper lip out into the cheek, and then from the jaw hinge into the cheek, pushing everything up where it should be. Since it is supposed to hurt, I get pretty agressive. But I noticed last night, it doesn't hurt as much. Then I start from the middle of the bottom lip and work across the inside of the jaw, doing the same thing.
I did this a night or two and then took a night off. Then started again. Last night I watched in the mirror. As I finished each section and let go, you could see the muscle lift up on the outside of the face. Thank you to whoever wrote about this. I have seen Nichola Joss' youtube videos before, but had never read about this part. It has a lot of merit, in my opinion. |

I would like to add one more thing to the body of knowledge. Yesterday we had to make an unexpected two hour drive to return a grandchild home, so I took my ipad and looked at a few videos. As I have said I have to be careful with which massage techniques I use, because some will reduce the much needed fat on my narrow face. I found this one to be quite lovely and helpful.

Grammalow, thank you too, the video you've posted is really interesting. I'm wondering about how you're experimenting with inner massage, I'm kind of holding the muscle and streching it slightly downwards to relax it, I'm doing just like holding only also and pressing from the inside and the outside on the point of muscle insertion, I find that sore usually, I mean just pressing; and I read that you're kind of pushing it upwards to where it should be and seeing results; so I've given a try and it is a different sensation, that way as I hold the muscle in place from the inside and outside it is as if I'm pulling up the lower muscles as I'm pushing up the top ones... I like it! |

I'm not quite sure how to describe it. I'm attempting to really work/massage the muscle, which would also get the fascia, from the inside. I have tried thumbs and fingers, and usually end up with a combination. The articles say it hurts, so I'm not very gentle. I push everything on the cheeks from the mid upper lip to jaw, up and in to the high point of the cheekbone. I guess it would be like "scraping" the inside of the cheek. Jaw goes from mid lower lip, up and out towards the jaw hinge. Tonight I plan to see what working inside and outside at the same time do.
I read a book once that described skin care types, and I am an over the top warrior. Any more of you out there? But I have been sick and yesterday I looked terrible. I did nothing and let my myself and my face rest. Today everything looks lifted. I can't say thank you enough for this technique. If Joss puts out her video and I find I'm doing it wrong, I'll just change it. By the way, I also like her two moves along the jawline and cheekbones (on the outside). They are on Youtube.
Because of work I went a very long time without looking at the forum. It is fun to pick up new things. Since I want to work on my cheeks again, I have been pulling out books, programs, etc. I even printed out a calendar to keep up. You can't do EVERYTHING every day. (Okay, I tried. Warrior through and through.) I am putting some things in rotation, and making sure I rest, too. |
