I have dark Thick stubborn hairs. My pain tolerance is darn near pathetic but I must get rid of my skin issues - so far I planning a regime which I believe will work but the missing link now is a really good hair removal method, thus I have opted for a epilator.
Does anyone have any recommendations?
I will am also interested in a numbing cream/spray as well.
Thanks!!! |

Hi
My sister bought a Silk'n Pro and I got to borrow it for 6 months. I have dark long hair on my legs and arms and we won't even talk about my you know what! I was thrilled because I didn't want to spend money on anything else after buying the "No! No!" for $300 and it didn't do a damn thing.
I know you're after an epilator which is just a temporary hair remover but I would seriously suggest you consider the Silk'n Pro. My leg hair is now 1/4 of it's density after about 8 treatments. I used not be able to shave as the next day you'd see all the tiny dark hairs on my legs (like a swarthy man's 5 o'clock shadow). NOT a good look. Now when I shave I can not worry about my legs for at least 3 days. It's amazing! I only wished I bought this sooner.
The lamps are expensive and I've gone through about 4 but I've done my entire legs, my underarms, and a full brazillian! (minus landing strip). When I think of the cost of waxing, razors, etc. It is sooooooooooo worth it.
Now that I have to give mine back to my Sister (she let me use it over the spring/summer months - I'm in Australia) I've gone ahead and bought my own.
I hope this helps. Feel free to PM me if you'd like.
x

I'm a big fan of Emjoi epilators. I can't remember the name of the one I use - but it's red in color and cost me about $99. |

I used to shave, but then the hairs got thicker. I want to try using an epilator. Can anyone recommend a good brand? Thanks! |

I really like Philips and warmly recommend it (Philips Satinelle). I am not a big fan of cordless ones because the battery tends to have big impact on its power. If you are looking at cordless ones, Braun Silk Epil is a classic brand. I don't like the ones that do both shaving and epilating at the same time, I think they do more shaving than epilating. From Braun, I can recommend Braun Silk Epil 5 (the green one). I use it to catch what I didn't see (my hairs are not very dark so it is easy to skip them if the light is not perfect) because it is cordless (so, they are convenient).
I find Philips one a lot faster than the Braun one. Also, keep in mind that you do need to trim your hair before epilation otherwise it will hurt a lot. And after the first time, it should be a lot less painful (less hairs growing). I would also recommend a loofah for exfoliation to prevent ingrown hair, plus, you end up with nice smooth skin after
I am a big fan of epilation, specially the underarm area, that is now always smooth, I can't get that result with shaving.
I do have Silk'N HPL, but I am not happy with it at all. My hair is not blond, but not black either and I really can't see any difference after months of using it (apart in bank balance).

I like Emjoi epilators. I have a regular one for leg hair and a mini I use on the chin(for those pesky, wiry hairs we get as we get older). They both work very well. |

I don't think hair shearers should be used. Maybe they will stimulate more hair growth. It's safer to use depilation ointment. |
