Hi bj,
There is a method called threading, but very similar to waxing since the hair is pulled out by the root. The difference is that instead of wax, a person uses thread (think string) to pull out the hair and shape your eyebrow. I haven't done this myself but hear it's very quick and accurate. |

It’s funny you should ask this question because I just read the following article in our weekly newspaper supplement:
Brow Tamers -- the pros and cons of tweezing, waxing and threading:
Tweezing:
Pulling individual brow hairs with a slanted tweezer is the most common way to shape and maintain brows. In this case, having a pro provide tips and an initial shaping is a must. Use the arch created by the aesthetician as a reference, then trim stray brow hairs as needed to maintain the look. Those with sensitive skin should ice brows before tweezing to numb the area and followup with an after-tweezing cream to reduce redness and irritation.
Threading:
This popular Indian and Middle Eastern technique uses tightly wound double-coiled thread to trap the hair in a lasso-like motion. Although it's not pain-free, threading is very precise. It's also great for sensitive skin, making it a good option for anyone using Accutane or Retin-A.
Waxing:
Because brow hairs are removed from the root, waxing, though slightly painful, is the most long-lasting brow-shaping technique. Those with sensitive skin should avoid waxing due to potential irritation. |

Hi,
I've actually had my eyebrows threaded before, and really liked the results.
If you have an experienced cosmetician do it, it's very clean & precise. I found the sensation more peculiar than painful. The cosmetician made sure that I held the skin around my eyebrows taut with one hand while she threaded. It made the procedure very easy to bear.
Apparently it is gentler on the skin than waxing or tweezing. I had my eyebrows waxed once and THAT was painful!! It actually took some of the skin off around my brows.
I would highly recommend trying threading as an alternative to traditional methods. |

i'm not trained in threading but i've seen it done. I can imagine it must be quite hard to thread such a small area. I have a completly different opinion on this to everyone else. In fact I don't think it's that precise at all. There are usually a lot of stray hairs left that need to be tweezed out. |
