This is what I read in this month's Allure yet my tube says it expires sometime in 2012. |

I think those expiry dates are only applicable for unopened products. Once you open it, it gets exposed to air and moisture so that's probably why they say it doesn't last as long as the expiry date. I think it goes the same for all skincare products. At least, I don't use any products that are older than one year. Although, I have read about some other people who do use Retin-A even though the tube says it has expired. |

I agree the expiration dates apply to unopened products. I toss any thing that I've had open for a year. |

That's why I prefer buying the smaller sizes. |

Definitely agree. Expiry date is for unopened products especially when it comes to anything with Retin-a in them.
Overall the type of packaging that the product comes in makes a huge difference to how long it lasts once open.
I noticed that my Retin-A products which are packaged in jars/bottles which needs to be opened daily (eg screwtops)had a tendency to change colour at a more rapid rate compared to something which is packaged in a pump bottle. This is due to the quicker oxidisation as it comes into contact with light and air more often.
My recommendation is to try and find retin-a products that comes packaged with minimal exposure to light and air! |

I hate jar packaging. You would think manufactures would know better then to package any active in a jar. I've passed on products because its in a jar, whats the point, it will lose its potency too quickly. |

I know! I avoid it altogether now too when it comes to anything with active ingredients. Its abit harder with other stuff like moisturisers as quite a lot of them still comes in jar packaging . I hate to think of the amount of exposure and potential contamination that is occuring |
