Hi CareKate,
I came upon your posting about taking Hyaluronic Acid supplements for plumper lips. Did taking this supplement cause other things to plump up as well? Like your cheeks...or your ears (jk ) Perhaps I overlooked the answer to this question in the posts... if that's the case, sorry to bug you.
More importantly, are you still taking them?
If so, what are the long term effects?...are they still plumping your lips?
If you stopped taking them, why?
Have you noticed any other long term beneficial results (for instance, better skin or even increased mobility in your joints etc). I have a bad back and can always use something to help relieve its pain and stiffness... if I can do this AND have plump lips: Yippee!
Thanks for your time,
Amnis |

No, the HA/collagen supplements have not caused anything else on *me* to plump up, although someone mentioned (under the original “Eureka: I’ve found the ultimate lip plumper” thread) that it made her nose grow bigger! If I remember correctly, this person was the only one who had this ‘side effect’, so it’s probably very rare or unique. I believe a couple of others reported that it helped plump up their under eye area (which was a good thing!). A couple people said it cured their chronically dry/dehydrated lips, and others – including myself – found that it helped with dryness on other parts of their body, such as dry, ‘scratchedy’ feet.
Yes, I’m still taking the supplements – I just ordered another supply from iherb.com which had fantastic prices (60 pills for the same price I paid for a 30-count bottle at Whole Foods), and yes, they’re still keeping my lips full. Someone found an article that said taking HA supplements orally lead to an increased risk of cancer, but these days you can find articles and studies that say just about ANYTHING can lead to an increased risk, so it’s up to each individual to educate themselves and make their own decisions....
My skin has improved dramatically, but I can’t necessarily attribute it to the HA/collagen supplements, because I’ve been using a ton of new products since I joined EDS and am just generally taking better care of my skin rather than just taking it for granted like I used to.
I *do* have a ‘trick ankle’ (old fracture, legacy of JB and the moving car) that has healed with a nasty bone spur that flares up from time to time. For example, I’ll be walking along, minding my own business, and – without warning – my ankle will simply give out and collapse under me. It also normally bothers me to walk on my ankle for extended periods of time unless I’m wearing super-supportive shoes, but – and I hadn’t noticed this until now – I don’t recall having had a ‘bad spell’ with my ankle recently. In fact, it’s been months since I’ve had to dig out my old magnetic ankle brace so perhaps the HA/collagen supplements have played a part in this. Who knows?
Bottom line: if you decide to begin taking HA/collagen supplements yourself, it’s important that you take the right kind (specifically, you need to look at the labels and only buy the supplement that has “Type II Collagen” in it) and at the right dosage (at least 50 mg of HA per day), otherwise you’re not going to see any lip plumping benefits.
HTH,
Carrie
P.S. If you want more info, I highly recommend that you wade thru the ENTIRE “Eureka” thread, especially pgs 1-12, as it contains everyone’s “case studies” (i.e.: results and side effects), specific brand recommendations and dosages. |

Just butting in here to say that I have been taking the Sources Naturals Hyaluronic Acid for over 2 months and noticed an IMMEIDATE plumping of my lips. That has been maintained by taking 100mg per day (one tablet at night, one in the morning).
No other "side effects".
Not sure if these are related to taking the HA, but here are some changes (benefits) I have noticed since starting this supplement:
- my nails are less brittle and don't peel anymore
- no monthly cramps (seriously...kind of weird but since starting the HA, I haven't had any painful cramps during that time of the month)
- ankle doesn't ache on rainy days (used to as a result of breaking it 8 years ago)
Hope you have good results if you decide to try them. |
