I've been toying with the idea of having a chemical peel, although as I heal so slowly I'm concerned that it could make my skin worse, I have red marks from old spots. Has anyone had one? How long does it take before you look "normal" again? Is it OK for sensitive skin types? |

It depends on the type of peel. There are several different types (and strengths). If you've never had one, I would definitely start with a very superficial peel, maybe a lactic acid peel, to see how your skin reacts. What is your skin type & age? Dry, oily, combination? Small pores? Big pores? This all will dictate what type of peel you get. The esthetician should do a skin analysis under a Woods Lamp to determine your skin type & the depth of sun damage to your skin. Then she/he should suggest the appropriate peel based on those factors.
But usually, you can follow these guidelines:
Dry/Mature Skin w/small pores: Lactic Acid or Glycolic Acid
Oily Skin w/large pores: Salycilic Acid and/or lactic acid, ascorbic acid peel
Sensitive Skin: Lactic acid, enzyme peels
This is a very loose guideline, but it might give you an idea.
Good luck!
