Hi
I want to have a go at making some homemade vit c serum, however the powder I have bought is ascorbic acid BP not lyscorbic acid??
Are they the same thing in essence and anyone know if I can use it for this purpose?
Thanks

I don't know much cheeks, but since no one responded, I'll give it a shot.
ascorbic acid contains primarily L-ascrobic (usually 90%), and some d-ascorbic. For vitamin C, L-ascorbic is what counts. I don't think you'll have a problem using the ascorbic acid that you bought. However, you might want to check with others as well. If I were you,
I'd try a small batch and test it out on your neck and see how that works for you.
Good luck. |

Actually, l-ascorbic and d-ascorbic acid are what's called chiral, or mirror images of one another. That is, they are perfectly matched in the way, say, mittens or gloves are, but they face different directions when you look at the molecule.
As for the difference in reaction in cosmetics, I'd have to ask my chemist friend. |

Did you ask your chemist friend about the difference Essentia? |
