Heya,
Can you guys recomend an anti dundruff shampoo?
I have tried so many things and nothing helps and the dandruff just gets worse.......
I used T Gel, Nizoral, Head & Shoulders, even prescription shampoo Stieprox .... but with no luck.
What else could I try?

Try adding some neem oil to your shampoo. Also your shampoo may be too harsh, since I have been using the Faith in Nature shampoo range I have never had a problem with my scalp. |

My daughter has had much success in treating her dandruff with apple cider vinegar. Pour a cup full onto your head and massage into your scalp. Wrap your head in a towel for 20 minutes to 1 hour then shampoo as usual. Repeat once or twice a week. You can dilute it with 50% water if the smell is too powerful for you. This remedy seems to kill the bacteria that causes dandruff. She, too has tried over the counter and prescription shampoos with minimal success. |

Yes I have read also that ACV is good to clean the scalp. I also have read somewher to put a little brown sugar with a conditioner to scrub the scalp a little, nothing to do with dandruff, but just wrote it to let it know. |

I cant believe im actually about to recommend a high street product (being the snob that i am ) but Dove's Anti-Dandruff Shampoo is absolutely amazing.
Ive not had a single flake since after the second application of it. And ive used all the ones youve mentioned - its so cheap its gotta be worth a try. I get mine at £1.99 for 2 bottles!
Give it a go.

Farouk, is the Dove moisturising as well? I have really dry haor and scalp and it is pretty itchy and flakey (sounds gross I know ). I have used the H&S sensitive with a glug of ACV and my scalp has cleared up, but my hair is really dry now, even with intensive conditioners. |

I think it moisturising, because my hair feels different when was with more 'liquidy' type shampoos like Michael di Cesares Oat Wash or Clairols Herbal Essences which leaves my hair really dry. Having said this however, my hair does tend towards greasy so I cant really tell how moisturising Doves is.
One thing I do know is that Dove has not long recently changed the consistency of its shampoos to more of a detergenty type, but they have NOT done this with the Anti-DAndruff one for some reason, which is the consistency of quite a thick moisturiser - id liken it to Dermalogica's Intensive Moisture balance - that consistency.
Give it a try - its so cheap - I dont know if theres a bodycare shop in your part of town which is where its cheapest.
Hope that helps chucky.

Fructis Anti-Dandruff shampoo worked for my son when nothing else did. He's tried a lot of different ones including salon brands and doctor recommendations but this is the only thing that made a drastic improvement. He had a problem with itchy scalp and so many flakes and now he's down to just a few flakes and no more itching. I think Garnier even guarantees it or your money back. |

Aga: Do you have dandruff because you have a dry scalp? If it is because your scalp is dry, you can rub jojoba oil into it and then put a towel or shower cap on, wait about 20 minutes or so then shampoo normally. If your dandruff is the result of something else, this might work, but you probably need another kind of product. On the jojoba oil, I usually warm some up and do my hair at the same time as my scalp in a hot oil treatment, but you don't have to.
It is totally wierd, I am pretty sure that I have never even written the words jojoba oil since I have been a member of EDS and I have brought it up tonight on two different threads including this one and using almost the same words. Funny coincidence.
By the way, I've found that tea tree shampoo seems to help with dandruff somewhat as a short-term aid.
Guapagirl You might want to try the jojoba oil for a little while and see how it works for you. As far as I know, there aren't any negative side effects that could harm your hair and I usually just shampoo it right out after I'm done. It is inexpensive and easy if it works for you, and your hair doesn't fall out if it doesn't. Um, I don't think. |

If you are saying your scalp is oily and flaky it is most likely seborrheic dermatitis. This is what my son and I have. His was severe and has had the best results with Garnier Fructis anti-dandruff shampoo. |

Wow! Hubby and I both have bad seborrhea dermatitis as well. Will definitely give Garnier a try. Hope we will have great results like you guys.
I hate constantly using rx cortisone shampoo |

Mmm.. I had the same problem for a while. Try Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree Line shampoo, and pair it with a rich conditioner, if you have dry ends (which I do). It's very tingly and cool on the scalp, and you might not want to use the Tea Tree conditioner that comes with it, as it might be too drying.
Basic gist, tea tree oil = good for scalp. |

Hey hey,
Sadly Garnier didnt fix my problem
Even though it helps with getting rid of the flakes with the wash, they come back the same day :S
So I am still looking for my HG as far as dandruff. The bad thing is that the dandruff is getting worse and worse and nothing works..
Next I am going to try some TTO products...theres gotta be something that helps, right?

Aga,
Do you have seborrhea? I would recommend that you go back to your derm and try a different rx shampoo. I tried a few before finding something that sort of works on my hair. |

Wow what a coincidental topic!
I am experiencing stubborn flaky/dandruff scalp right now and getting VERY frustrated...
Mine is a recurring problem (it comes and goes and comes and so forth...heard that it would never really go away!!)
In the past I have tried using Nizoral SS and usually scalp goes normal after 5 - 7 washes.
Alas, my good old Nizoral has stopped working this time round! Supermarket brands hv aggravated the problem in the past so I am cautious to try new pdts.
Aga...i think what you mean is oily scalp with dry ends?? cos that's what i have. but the dry ends are due to excessive blow drying i guess otherwise it's just general oily hair condition (yuck!)
I hv very oily scalp and have to wash hair everyday... so dont think jojoba oil is suitable, rather interested in ACV, wonder if it makes scalp oily though?
thanks guys! |

Here's some homemade hints for dandruff and itchy/flaky scalp which I cut & pasted from teh ~~~ DIY Skincare Recipes ~~~ thread:
carekate wrote: |
Homemade Hints for Hair Care:
• Itchy/flaky scalp: Add 25 drops of 100% pure Tea Tree Oil and 15 drops of Peppermint essential oil and 5 drops of Rosemary essential oil to a bottle of your fave shampoo and shake well to make a homemade version of Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree Special Shampoo at a fraction of the cost. You can also add a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, which helps kill the yeast that causes some forms of dandruff.
• Prevent Oily Hair and Scalp: Add 30 drops of Clary Sage oil to your fave bottle of shampoo and/or conditioner to help control the production of sebum (oil), and to help fight dandruff.
• Promote Hair Growth: Add 30 drops of Rosemary essential oil to your fave bottle of shampoo and/or conditioner to help stimulate the scalp, promote hair growth and/or help fight dandruff or seborrhea. |
