I know there's an entire thread dealing with home made stuff, but focussing particularly on the vit c serum, i'd like to know what peoples opinions of it are. Is it just as good as the expensive store ones? How do you know what % you are mixing? Are there any other ingredients/additions to improve the consistency or effectiveness?
Thanks! |

Hi Jillums
I have made a batch of the home-made serum using the recipe as posted by carekate on the DIY recipes thread.
I believe the percentage works out at 12%, but don't quote me on that!!
I have been using it once a night now for the last 4 weeks and I can already see a difference! The frown lines that I have on my forehead seem less harsh!
Also I use the Glycerin as the thickening agent, and whilst I admit it is a bit tacky on your skin it seems to have really good moisturising properties. It even got rid of a stubborn dry patch that I have had for months on end!

I have used 2 different recipes for vitamin C, one with propylene glycol+water, and the other with Hyuloronic Acid (HA) and water. (They are both posted in DIY).
I like the one with HA better. Both recipes yield a 12% vitamin C serum.
As for effectiveness, they are very effective. I have used Skinceuticals C 15, and CellularSkinRX Firmin C, and it is as effective. |
