If you eat good fats and stay away from all simple carbs your skin will improve. I've been on this type of diet for a little over 2 years now. The first year I wasn't using any skin creams and wrinkles simply disappeared.

Wow Sharky that's awesome. I don't have the willpower. Biggest vice is sugar - hard to stay away from grande decaf iced white chocolate mochas with whipped cream (I try to have soy instead ...)!

Been there done that. Rolling Eyes I have to say, I didn't really see much difference, and the high protien diet actually was stressful to my kidneys. I follwed this diet strictly for several months. I follow a variant of it now. Low glycemic carbs (most of the time), fish, beans, poultry, nuts (as sources of protien),olive oil, nuts, avocados(as fats) and lots of organic fruits and veggies. I'd love to say I was wrinkle free, but I'm not! I do think it is a healthy lifestyle though.

Sharky let me in on your secret!

Thanks, kylala

Hey guys. And which food from the diet list is been the best for your skin improvement? I had read that salmon is good and that celebrities like Jennifer Lopez are in this diet too. I wanna do this diet also, but I dont have the book yet. I think we have this book in Holland too, so i will have too look for it. Does anyone of you know which food will give you a pinky glow and what are the good oils and the bad ones. I have read that tomatos are very good, especially as an anti-oxidant. And tomatos keep you young, i have search this on google, i have also read that many beauty lines are using products whit tomatos. Anyway, thanks for the replies guys Wink !!!

It is important to drink plenty of water on this diet (at least 8- 8oz glasses). That's good for your health and for your skin anyway. There first svereal weeks you will pee a lot but that is just because you retain less water. Long term studies show no bad kidney effects. Short term studies of ultra-low carb high protein diets do show calcium loss but this is not found after 6 weeks.

I think the skin improvement was mostly from the switch to all good oils. I severely limit Omega 6 (most oils including canola) but eat lots of monounsaturates and Omega 3s (2 T flax meal and fish oil every day). I also eat berries every day because they have a low glycemic index but plenty of phytochemical. I also eat aslmost no prepared food products of any kind.

It was the diet that got me into the skin creams because I couldn't believe the changes in my skin; people who hadn't seen me for a while said I look at least 10 years younger.
I should say that I had very high blood pressure and blood sugar problems when I started the diet and the diet cured these. That could have also improved my skin becaues blood sugar spikes cause wrinkles (make the tissues less flexible).

Hey Sharky. Good for you that this diet helped. I saw it on Oprah, when some people had done the diet and there skins looked very good, and then a couple days ago i was looking on all acess on mtv, and they where talking about this diet too. So i thought maybe it would be good for me to do this also. I have many skin problems, and its not that i eat onhealthy or something, but maybe it is better in my case to eat healthier. You have sad that you have limit omega 6, why? I thought that omega 6 was a good thing, and 3 and 9 too. What is canola? About the berries, i have read lot about this, i even read that it can help lighten skin, do you know if this is true? Sorry for all thes questions, but i have no idea Confused Wink. thanks again, bye, bye! Smile !

I do not know whether berries lighten your skin. I know they are full of great phytochemicals that are good for your skin. They also have fiber and do not impact your blood sugar much. I know some people use strawberries for a skin lightening mask but some people are allergic.

The reason to limit Omega 6s is that they are proinflammatory and we currently eat way too much of them.

Also this diet is a long term fix. I started noticing benefits by about 5 months (I had lost 40lbs by then and normalized my blood sugar). After a year I saw major benefits. After 2 years I have only a few fine lines and only one that anyone could see from a few feet away (it is along the left side of my mouth and is a little over 1/2" long. As I am 50yo this is pretty darn good. Some of the skin tone improvement came from vit C serums but I think the majority of the improvement was from diet.

I have read in another thread that strawberries help whiten teeth(!) but I thought brushing with something like that would actually rub more acid, even though its fruit acid, into the enamel and weaken the teeth.

I definitely lost weight on his diet. Unfortunately, it made my face look very gaunt. Sharky, do you use Acai? I was using it daily in my morning smoothies unitl I found out it is very high in Omega 6. Do you understand why he hihgly recs this berry? I know its suppose to be a great antioxidant. TIA

No I only use blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, balackberries, gooseberries and cranberries.

Pipilover: I have several recipes. You mash the berries and mix with a bit of honey and ground oats I sometimes add citric or alpha lipoic acid. You should try a bit under your chin first because some people can have allergies.

I think for good skin we need to go back simpler times, think post war diets or when people didn't have fridges/freezers, they went to the grocer to get their food fresh! none of this crap full of hormones and chemicals, no junk/processed food for starters, cook from scratch if you can, keep the coffee and tea low, same with alcohol.

there have been a couple of tv shows on over here and it is really shocking what happens our food, average milk yield per cow has gone up from 15l to 150l and guess what the nutritional value has dropped. Anyways sorry for ranting and going a little of topic. Confused

I tried for weeks, couldn't stand to eat salmon too much, so I go back to simple rule, just eat healthily and limit my consumption of cake, choc and other refined carb products. I feel much happier than following strict diet.

Hi all. I agree that you don't need to count anything just avoid processed foods, sugars, refined carbs and bad fats drink plenty of water and you'll see results.

P.S. I let dd have an orange soda today. She only drinks water and milk at home but we were on an outing with other kids. The label said 51gms of sugar!!!! There is tons of crap out there.

well that depends if you want to drink it I'd go for organic, it doesn't cost much more but it is nutritionally richer -according to the tests I've read about.

Milk in general is good to drink (a glass or so a day). It has calcium in a absorbable form (you need fat and vit D to absorb) and it
does protect against some forms of cancer.

The bad issues are hormones fed to cows (this is an issue with meats as well) and can be avoided by buying organic or there are also some local dairies that do not use hormones read the labels. The second issue is for people who have allergies. Milk can thicken mucous. It does not worsen any condition but can make you uncomfortable. I think in the balance some is good but you might want to lay off when you have a head cold.

P.S. There are many rumors about milk (e.g. problems with PCOS, endometriosis etc.) these are just nonsense and some are so pervasive studies have been carried out to show they are nonsense.
