Our EDS friend, Judy Marshall, lives in Texas. I hope she and all of our EDS friends are safe.
The Atlantic hurricane season doesn't end until November 30th and for the fist time since they staring naming them (60 years) they're running out of names. Only 4 left (Stan, Tammy, Vince and Wilma) before they start using the Greek alphabet.
So many of our friends in Florida are STILL rebuilding their homes from last years horrendous hurricane season. |

I am in Houston and by the Grace of God we were spared, we had very high winds and rain but other than that we all are fine. But God bless those in Beaumont and Lousiana.
Melissa
P.S. Caretake (Carrie) is in Austin which is about 2 and half hours out of Houston, and bless Austins heart they took in many many Houstonians for shelter, Dallas is about 4 hours north from Houston, and took in many many Houstonians as well. Hope that helps anyone whos worried. |

Well, my immediate family and I escaped the hurricane unscathed -- we didn't even get any rain out of it so the drought and unseasonably high temps (108 degrees F yesterday) continue -- but I lost one of my elderly great aunts to Rita.
I don’t know if this made the international news or not, but on Friday morning a bus carrying elderly evacuees from a retirement home in Houston exploded on the freeway just outside of Dallas. Apparently there was some kind of mechanical failure that caused a small fire. If it hadn’t been for the fact that there were a bunch oxygen-breathing tanks onboard the bus for some of the elderly patients, everyone probably would’ve escaped without harm. Unfortunately, the oxygen tanks caused the bus to explode sky high and my aunt was among the victims who weren’t able to be pulled to safety. I can only pray that she died instantly, but other – more grusome – thoughts keep going round and round in my head.... |

Oh my goodness, yes, I did read about that terrible incident in our newspaper! I'm so very sorry to hear that your great aunt was one of the victims, carekate. If it's any comfort, then I do believe an explosion like that would probably have happened so fast that she didn't know anything about it and didn't suffer.
My kindest wishes and sympathy to you and your family. |

ck - Sorry to hear about that, that was on the news here, just terrible. Can't imagine how that would make you feel, I do understand that the bad thoughts about what may have happened, it's hard to stop those. We can only comfort ourselves with the thought that they are now without pain.
Hope everyone else is safe and sound. |

Carekate - SO sorry to hear about your great aunt. I actually work at a hospital just about 10 miles north of where the accident happened. It was such a sad accident, but I truly believe that none of the victims that passed suffered. You and your family are in my prayers! |

I have just read this thread and Carrie you are in my thoughts, when you read or hear about accidents like this you don't really take on board the severity of what has happened until someone you know has been involved.
So sorry. |
