hi dabrat!
i would be worried about lightening my whole body, wouldnt that cause sensitivity to sunlight etc? well, alot of complications anyway (look at micheal jackson for one! ).
ive mentioned this b4: H20+ whitening cream (for face), havent personally used it myself but a friend of mine has, she's got tanned asain skin. |

I tried Godiva for hyperpigmentation and melasma and I must say it helped lighten the pigmentation alot and also brightens my skin and makes me look lighter too. Why don't u check it outwww.godivaskincare.com also on ebay go to pristines world and check out some whitening products that they have. Good Luck |

Dabrat,
this evening i'm reading a bit of forum stuff so i saw your e-mail.
all of the stuff they sell over the counter has 2% hydroquinone which is not really enough to lighten . Obagi Clear has 4% and that should help.
I use the Obagi line and all the products, I'm not african american but i had some spots and they are almost all gone plus my skin is super clear now. So i think a combination of clearness plus a bit lighter would help you.
As far as using it on the whole body, i suppose it would be ok since it's good for the face but it would be really expensive.
Have you tried the whitening decleor line? I heard it was good but don't know. Also, lancome has something out to whiten and has been shown to work on Asian skin really well.
Hope this helps

For overall body brightening I like Fancl whitening body milk and Nivea body whitening cream. Don't be deceived by the word "whitening" though as it is honestly quite misleading because nothing OTC can whiten your skin permanently. A cheap alternative would be to rub fresh lemon juice all over your skin daily (body only though as your facial skin would be too sensitive, lemons being as acidic as they are). Hope this helps!
p/s Wearing a high SPF 365 days a year carrying an umbrella and being fully clothed helps tons too. |

I hate to sound like a broken record about hq/hydroquinone - but it's best to stay away from it for lightening the skin. It may be a quick fix, but down the road will be worse for your skin and for many darkens the skin more when you stop.
I just reread your post- STAY AWAY from lemonvate - it is on the same line as dermovate which is a steroid and comes with horrible side effects! Here's an article with some examples:
http://www.jamaicans.com/articles/primecomments/0902_bleaching.shtml
This cream has been seized in many of the countries.
Skin lightening is such a individual thing. I've seen some ppl praise a product while it didn't work a bit on someone else.
If you want to go for natural ingredients look out for these : kojic acid, arbutin, MAP,bearberry, licorice,Vitamin C, vitamin B3(niacinamide),lactic acid, fruit acids to name a few.
I also find layering products helpful, i.e. lightening soap, serum(for face), creams, and jojoba oil(for body). |

Hi dabrat,
Well I always feel hesitated to comment on any whitening products because their effectiveness and possible "side effects" are controversial...
Being in california, I was wondering have you ever come across any of the asian TV shows/commercials? I recently saw one about a promotion whitening program ~$90... It's said to be the most popular product in Japan right now that's causing a huge wave and they did a test with people on the street... And it show quite a change in skin tone in just 3-5 minutes... Well, of course being a tv commercial, you can edit it however you want...
But anyway, the set consists of one bottle of basic whitening mask(cream texture) with 2 different types of ampules that you can add to the mask - one type has Oxygening enhancing function that compliments the mask, the other type has some sorta Clay that helps with clearing problem skin... I don't quite know the exact ingrediants in the product, so I can't tell you anything more than what I saw on TV...
I was tempted to try it so I did copy down the phone number (888)755-1588... If you're interested, give it a call and maybe ask them to sent u a English brochure... or maybe ask them if there's any store nearby that u can visit and possibly test use it... And be sure to ask them about your African skin tone... because the testimonials they have on tv are on Asian girls, so....
The company's name is JenBjuti (I think it pronounces as Jen Beauty??)... I've searched all over the website and can't find anything on it... so that being said, the best bet is to give them a call and find out...
Good luck!! If u decided to try, please share your experience with us.... |

actually, that's nota bad idea. i mean, the fully clothed part.
two months ago i bought Porcelana an over the counter product that had 2% hydroquinone. It actually does work although it's not a fast result.I also bought Vita-K, (helps fade away blotchy uneven skin tones, discoloration and acne marks) this worked as well. Within a month you can see your skin lighter and brighter. I used both products together. But i must add that if you DO NOT fully cloth yourself and put SUNBLOCK lotion of 45 or more, you'll never see the results. Remember the sun and your body's pigment gives you your skin color so fully cloth and protect your skin because if you dont using these products is just pointless!! I learned it the hard way, there were some days that my skin was exposed to the sun and to make it worse yesterday my familly and i took a drive to PALM SPRINGS!
Im a easly tanned hispanic girl, i even get tanned in the car. Thankfully my arms and neck and face are the only parts that are tanned, i still have my light chest back and legs. Also about a week ago i bought Neutrogena Visibly Even Moisturizer (this cream reduces blotchiness and eneven skin discolorations), and i have to tell you that THIS REALLY DOES DOES WORK! It's known to have fast results, within a week i saw my skin go back to it's color! but since i went to PALM SPRINGS yesterday, well you know. So now im fully covering my skin and wearing Neutrogena UVA/UVB Sunblock lotion (it has anti-oxidant vitamins A&E, and it has Parsol 1789, which i heard is really good).
i just wanted to share this with you guys. i'll keep you guys posted on my results if you'd like.
p.s
Porcelana is about $6.
VITA-K is about $11.
Neutrogena UVA/UVB Sunblock was $10.
Neutrogena Visibly Even Moisturizer was $13
(i now really like Neutrogena) |

Very true! the japanese and korean use 'whitening' to mean removing that yellowness in oriental skin, not really lighten your skin dramatically. I do like the Fancl line though. I also like many japanese whitening products--very effective and light textured. |

I don't think hydroquinone should be used at all - even 2% unless your derm recommends it for special conditions such as melasma or liver spots. It shouldn't be used for more than 3-4 months, and in some cases you can get onchrosis or darker skin from it.
TriLuma should DEFINITELY NOT be used unless your derm recommended for your condition. Many have had mixed experiences from it, and some had blisters.
It contains hq as well as the steroid, cortisone, and can only be used for 8 weeks since it thins the skin. It only works for 50% of the ppl and is temporary. So is it really worth the risk? |

I was growing up in the time when the darker you could get from the sun the prettier. My mom had us all looking like the Coppertone Ad's.
Then we found out that the sun was damaging to the skin. So, light is fashionable again. Must say for those of us who are light those self tanners keep flying off the shelves.
For you that want to look lighter, can you please trade me a bit of darkness? Or, if you have curley hair I would love to have some of it. My fine, straight hair needs more body. Guess I just have to love and enhance what I was born with.
Does anyone remember the Ad's that you could take a pill to make yourself darker These money seekers make my blood boil! |

I had tried some a while back and I did see some minor results, but putting that bleach in my system and seeing it thin my skin a little, made me stop...I am glad I did. But, my skin wasn't too thick to begin with. |

radiohead,
where does one find vit-k? i like how cheap it is compared to other expensive hyped up products. i'm not really looking to "bleach" my skin, just to even it out and lessen some hyperpigmentation from acne scars. neutrogena i know i can find just about on every counter but i've never heard of vit-k...
thanks.

I'm also a fan of godiva products. here in our country, there are a lot of skin whitening products. ive tried papaya soaps (orange and green ones, which didnt work for me), pearl creams (which i found were too strong for my skin), extraderm astringent (also too harsh for me), etc. like when you walk up in a supermarket aisle, you'll be amazed at all these diff kinds of skin whiteners. im one of those girls who always try wats new in the market. well, maybe now iv decided to stick to one product for my skin and that's godiva. why? because the godva products did not give any harsh effects on my skin unlike the others i tried. im not that dark skinned but i have dark spots from insect bites and they all faded thanks to godiva. im so glad that people from other countries also appreciate godiva products. |

I've seen Vitamin K in any drugstore,Target,WalMart. It's in the health and beauty section. They advertise it for dark spots and veins. I think it works well for my undereye circles.
As far as Godiva goes, it's a pretty decent and gentle cream. I just don't like the way they market it - telling ppl they will lighten within 7 days. Which is not true, it took me a month to see very slight results. |

Hello people,
I am interested in lightening the tone of my skin I am out in the sun and wear sunscreen most of the time. I really have started to wear it and try to cover up my skin so I won’t get sunburned, because I love being pale I am already white, but my nose was sunburned in the past and it was also peeling. Now I have a pinkish nose It kind of stands out when you look close in the mirror. Recently I went fishing for 10 hours and when I got home my cheeks were light pink even though I wore sunscreen and a hooded jacket It was windy too so I might of got wind burned. When I got home I also noticed and felt a white mark on my cheek What was that It has been 2 days now and I am a little upset about my skin since it is still light pink on areas of my face. I don’t know if later on in my life my skin will all go back to the regular tone it is suppose to be if I stay inside more. I heard of PONDS skin whitening on ponds.com, but I guess it is only sold in the Philippines. Do you people know anything about this product. Also I thought maybe what I eat could help lighten my skin. What might I eat Also I do not want a product that will cause damage in any way in the future or now, and I want the process to work NATURALLY, and make SURE that it won’t effect anything if I stop using it, and wont be permanent, and JUST
WORK NATURALLY; like if I was going to stay in the dark for a long time Oh yeah, do you think staying in a dark place for sometime would help Like make my skin go dark. I am only 13 years old and my skin is sensitive.
Thanks,
Moo

Moo,
Usually for sun damage I would recommend Vit C serum, but I do not know what age, if any, is too young.
Guapagirl,
Mini-guapa uses Vit C a few times a week right? and she is in the same age range? |
