Hey Girls,
I could not find Witch Hazel without the alcohol. Do u think this will suffice for the DIY cleansing cream?
Thanks,
Anna |

Sorry I can't help you with that, but funnily enough I was about to ask the same thing!
I just bought some witch hazel a couple of hours ago and the ingredients are - water, ethanol, witch hazel extract, methyl paraben and diethyl phthalate. The paraben thing scares me! I have heard they are bad. Does yours have the same ingredients? |

hi. if you go to a health food store, they definitely will sell it all natural, with little or no alcohol. i used to use one as an astringent and they even added aloe.
also stay away from parabens, very bad. |

Please don't be afraid of parabens. Parabens are used in virtually every skin care product sold. They are to preserve the product from spoiling. If parabens were not used the shelf life of products would be very short and bacteria would grow. Perhaps without Parabens a product would be more harmful.
If you are making a product yourself it can be made in very small batches to use before spoiling. Of course that is fine.
There are those who want product TOTALLY
"all natural." For those I do respect you opinion. Several months ago I made myself a batch of Dr. H cleansing cream. After a few weeks mold started growing in the container. Obviously I made too large a batch. |

Ack mold! Perhaps add a little ascorbic acid (vitamin c) to preserve it 'naturally'. |

That was going to be my next question! How long homemade Dr H CC will last. I whipped up a batch last night with the tiniest amount of my alcohol and paraben-filled witch hazel. I think there will be too much of it but we'll see.
I don't think I smooshed the almonds quite enough. Some are quite chunky still. |

If I were you, I'd make it in tiny batches... 12 almonds at a time. And keep it in the fridge. I made the mistake of leaving mine in the bathroom, and a couple of days after I'd made it, there was mold on it. |

I used witch hazel with alcohol too in my attempt at the homemade cc. For some reason, it went bad and stinky pretty quickly. I didn't use any for a while and when I wanted to, it was moldy. I added ascorbic acid too. What went wrong? |

Wow, all this talk about mold is scaring me. I have not received all my ingredients yet so I have not made my first batch yet. Do u think I should start with a very small amount first?
Carekate, u got any tips on how to avoid or prevent mold from growing? |
