Hi!
Can anyone recommend a really good hand cream/treatment for dry outdoorsy hands?
Usually using a olive oil/sugar scrub and slathering my hands with L'Occitane Shea handcream does the trick but this year its not working!
I have horses so am outdoors a lot and although I wear gloves they are so dry and 'old' looking - they go back to their usual 'selves' just after I exfoliate and moisturise but then quickly revert. Despite applying hand cream frequently!
I've tried everythign I can think of (I'm an ex Beauty Therpapist) and my hands still look like they belong to someone way older than me!
Thanks in advance!

What about good ole Vaseline? Slather it on and wear cotton gloves overnight. Or shea butter.
Bella Lucce Kopi Coffee Scrub works well for me to exfoliate, but you said you used a sugar scrub before. Then I apply either a light oil or Kiehl's Intensive Moisturizer and Treatment. |

I'm using Penzim http://www.ecobrands.co.uk/penzimf.html - it's a bit of a faff at first because you have to initially use it 5 times a day for the first few days, but then you eventually tail it down to only once daily.
I then follow this with Kiehl's Intensive Treatment for Calluses before I go to bed, sleeping with my hands in cotton gloves.
My hands are usually terribly dry, cracked and sore - especially in the winter, but this regime really seems to be helping an awful lot. I've had no cracking or soreness so far this winter since following it. |

We must have posted at the same time, TooInvolved! I'm glad to see another fan of the Kiehl's Intensive Treatment. It's one of the only things to come anywhere near to helping my poor dry hands. ![Very Happy](images/smiles/biggrin.gif) |

Try taking supplement of Zinc and Vitamin A to help prevent the symptoms.
Vasaline is a a good idea, I use this on the heels of my feet when they are particularly bad.
Also I find that very rich foot creams work wonders for dry hands. |

Thanks all - I will check out the Penzam and the Kiehls - I have tried vaseline in the past when I got to a point where I would try almost anything but I just couldn't cope with the cloying feeling it gave me - (might have been in my head though as I am a bit 'anti' anything petrochemically! ), but then I can't sleep in gloves either for some bizarre reason - will have to try again I guess.
Thanks again. ![Very Happy](images/smiles/biggrin.gif) |

I've been using DDF 18% glycolic on my hands for about 9 months and have seen major improvement in skin tone. I also started using the "yellow stick" Cocoa butter and love it. It is not greasy at all sinks in and leaves no tackiness. |

I am wondering if it is warm where you are? Maybe sunscreen on your hands on top of your reg creams will help as well?? I actually dont know much about your hands but if they are exposed to the sun all day, it might be another thing contributing to your dry hands.
even cold weather can chap your hands. I use clarins hand cream because it is thick and tends to coat the hand.
ishould also say i actually noticed that my son's aveeno baby cream works great on my hands |

Lucia - Just remembered that I've also heard very good things about the Body Shop's Hemp Hand Protector. I tested it briefly in the shop and, providing you can cope with the initial strong hempy scent, it seemed rich and protective.
I intend to buy a tube at some point and give it a try myself.
ETA Kiehl's products are scarily expensive over here in the good old UK, so you may want to try buying them from American sellers on eBay. That's what I usually do. |

Hi
Nope its not warm I'm in the UK and its cold. grey and damp or frosty at the moment.
I'm VERY fair and wear SPF60 on my hands in the summer (A photo stable SPF)and I use Vit C and an SPF handcream on them when I'm out in the winter. But nothing is helping at the moment. I Epidermx'd them last night which has helped a bit.
Not thought of trying the Glycolic....might be worth a go.
Maybe I'm turning into the incredible flaking woman LOL! ![Laughing](images/smiles/lol.gif) |

Aquaphor is another option- similar to vaseline but it isn't quite as greasy. Another tip a friend told me about is to put good old chapstick around your curticles to keep them from cracking... and it works! |

Totally agree! And if you're looking for something to help firm/reduce age spots, Sally Hansen makes a great anti-aging hand lotion that has retinol in it. It's the one in an orange tub. I only use this at night when I go to bed though, but it does help! |

That's usually me too!!!!
What brand of SPF60 do you use on your hands in the summer? I really should use something like that, especially as my skin is so very pale. |

Thanks all - lots of goodies to look up!
Majorb I use avene in the orange tube (though its now known as SPF 50+ due to EU legislation), Ambre solaire SPF 60 or Photoderm max.:O)
(I also use the avene on my face). |

My sister in law gave me a tub of 100% Olive Oil that is in solid form from an Italian company called Dottoressa Reynaldi...and it really seems to be working well on my hands (and my poor chapped nose after a cold!) I'm going to do a little comparison with this and the L'Occitane 100% Shea Butter.
I know that Dr. Reynaldi is selling products in N. America through TJ Maxx but I don't know if this is one of the products available. |
