Hi all! In "The Skin Type Solution," Dr Baumann mentions that she feels eye creams aren't necessary as they're nothing more than glorified moisturizers. She recommends simply bringing your regular moisturizer up to the eye contour.
I have to admit that although I've been a faithful eye cream user since the age of 25 (I'm now 33), I've yet to find on that delivers. In fact, I was recently horrified when, during a facial, the facialist announced that my eye contour was dry 
So I ask you all: do you think eye creams are really necessary? Have any of you found your HG eye cream?

| I have the same problem being told that my eyes are very dry and thought that eye creams would keep them moist. I do not put any cleanser near my eyes and just use eye make up remover even when I do not use eye make up and I never rub only with cotton ball. I do not use an eye cream every night |

| I feel an eye cream is necessary for me. I haven't found my HG eye cream but I feel using an eye cream helps delay the signs of aging. |

| I definitely need eye cream - I have just started with Jan Marini's Age Intervention Eye Cream and am very impressed with the results on crows feet, sagging and with the milia on my right eye. Prior to this I was using Obagi and had no results. I believe it is important to find a product for your age not just your skin type |

| I use psf super hydrating eye treatment. I think it makes a big difference in the hydration under my eyes. I like the ingredients it contains and they are quite different from what is in the moisturizer I use on the rest of my face. |

I tend to agree with all of you. Although I haven't found my HG, I couldn't go without using eye cream, and I don't think eye creams and regular moisturizers are necessarily interchangeable.
Btw, thanks for your recommendations... I'll definitely take a look. |

| I think eye creams are necessary. I find they have diffrent textures than regular moisturizers. I use a gel in the morning, and a richer cream in the evening. I have found my HGs, though-- DHC. I have used the Eye Bright, Concentrated eye cream, and Q10 eye cream. All really impart a lot of moisture to my eye area. |

I dont think eye creams are necessary at a young age, but its a must as you age. When you're young, I think that your normal moisturiser will be sufficient for your eye areas. However, in my teens, I tend to use eye gels to just de-puff my eyes, not cos I was scared of geting crows feet.
I havent found my HG eye cream, but I'm not that picky with eye creams, as its not the area of my concern---its the acne I want to get rid of  ---At the moment, I am using up my sample of Cellcosmet, which is lovely. Moisturises my eye area and it seems to make it look less crepey. However, I will soon be trying DHC Q10, cos apparently its their top selling eye creams, then I will use the Eye Bright due to reviews here! |

Hi,
What is HG? Sorry cannot guess.
I used to think eye-cream is not necessary until I used the one which made a big difference. I used Decleor's eye-cream. The vitaroma range (now experience de l'age)made the most difference but their hydra-floral one is good too. Am sorry, even though I should have waited a few years before using the mature skin eye cream, I couldn't resist! & boy, did I need it. My eyes are very well moisturised now. I was getting slightly heavy lidded. Now, my eyes have opened up. |

| If you don't use eye cream that firms you up, your eyelids can sag. Also, eyelids are more delicate than your face skin, and eye cream is made for the delicate skin around the eyes. |

I was recently in the market for a new eye cream and spoke with a an SA at the clinique counter. I usually use clinique's all about eyes rich- but its pretty greasy and my eyeshadow slides off. I was taking a look at the regular all about eyes and the repair wear eye cream. The SA told me that you don't really need eye cream unless you already have the signs of aging in that area- lines, bags, etc. She said that the best thing is to use sunscreen around the eyes instead to prevent any damage from occuring in the first place.
I bought the city block SPF40 and have been using it around my eyes now- I love it. It brightens and moisturizes my eyes. But if you have dark circles or wrinkles you should use an eye cream along with the sunscreen.

I feel that skin around eye area is super fragile and usually thi is the area that shows signs of aging first. It starts with crow feet and then you have depp wrinkles..  At least this is from what I have seen on some old ladies. I sue eye cream since 25 and so far I my eye area has not changed at all for the past 5 years - it is still the same, no wrinkles or any other signs of aging. Is it due to eye creams I used or is it genetics - who knows, but I dont want to stop using eye creams only to find the answer to that question |

That's what I heard too. The area underneath your eye is thinner than the rest of the face hence the reason for a different moisturizer for the eye area. It is also one of the first areas to show the signs of aging. |

| I've heard from my doctor that you can put your regular moisturizer on your eye area. Although your eye area has thinner skin than the rest of your face...you can still dab your regular moisturizer around your eyes. The doctor said that "eye creams" is more of a marketing strategy making people buy into the whole concept of needing an eye cream, but if you would look at the ingrediants in your moisturizer and your eye cream, it is almost identical ingrediants |

Vanna, yes, the hydra floral is hydrating. I usually mix it with prolagene and think that benefits the skin. |

id also like to know whether you ppl here use ur cleanser on the eye area?......i no i do but i think maybe i am drying the skin there. If you dont then what do u use to cleanse the eye area???  |

It seems that most doctors (like Baumann) maintain that any moisturizer will do on the eye contour. I'm not so sure. Many of you pointed out that the skin around the eye area is different than the rest of the face. Therefore, if I have oily skin and use products formulated for oily skin, should I use those same products on the thin, fragile skin around my eyes? No.
Simran, I use a non-foaming cleanser on my eyes to remove make-up -- either Cetaphil or Bioderma Sensibio H2O. I used to use a remover specifically for the eyes, but I find that Cetaphil or Bioderma (this stuff is amazing) work just as well.
Vidishi, thank you for replying. I've been eyeing the hydra-floral eye cream for a while, and now I think I'll give it a try. |

Hi Vanna,
If you order from EDS and meet their threshold for a free gift, you can get the eye cream for mature skin for free.
I could be wrong, but, I think skin around eye area does not have much or any oil glands?! So, even if you have oily skin, your eye area may not be oily.....am I getting confused with the lips?! think i am.
Simran, it is better to use a good make-up remover for the eyes. Decleor has an eye-makeup remover. Haven't used it as I use the cleansing lotion from Decleor, however, I am thinking of buying one.

My advice to all of you younger woman is to use an eye cream now. I did not start using one until I was in my late forties. Big mistake  I have very nice skin all but the eye area. Perhaps if I used a good cream when I was younger my eyes would not give away my age.
Right now I am using a sample of Valmont. OMG what a gorgeous cream! |

Vanna, I've read that book which reinforced my idea that eye creams are unnecessary. I've always used my moisture cream around my eyes. That was before I started reading this board....
I'm new here and I'm overwelmed by all the information I found! I only wish people gave their age group because what works for young or middle agers may not work for mature womem. I often wonder if even the Baby Quasar will help rebuild collagen. Isn't collagen nearly all gone by the time we reach 60?
Maybe Winnie can help me out here. She's so knowledgeable. So, can eye cream, Remergent DNA Repair and gadgets help seniors achieve tightness of face skin?
