Hi
I’ve been doing the Dr Haushcka thing (using Dr H Cleansing Cream, and no moisturiser at night) for about three months now, and while I am absolutely AMAZED and DELIGHTED at the improvement in my skin tone, I just can’t seem to get rid of a persistent dryness, especially my cheeks, and to some extent, my chin (although my T-zone is still a little oily). I use the Dr H clay mask once a week or so, I’ve tried various moisturisers (Dr H, Decleor Harmonie, and PSF), and they’re all lovely in their own way, non-irritating, and they seem to be hydrating when I put them on, but the surface of my skin remains flaky.
My question is this:
Firstly, is there such a thing as a non-abrasive exfoliator that I could use without upsetting my sensitive skin? My skin seems to really respond to no rubbing or scrubbing, so I don’t want start irritating it again with an abrasive exfoliator, but I’m so sick of this flakiness!!
Secondly, can anyone recommend a product (a hydrating serum, or something?) that will assist my skin to absorb a moisturiser better? OR, can anyone recommend a moisturiser that will really hydrate the dry areas of my skin without overloading my oily T-zone?
I hesitate to start using a night cream again, because of the difference in my skin tone when I stopped moisturising at night, but perhaps I could try a light moisturiser at night to see if that makes a difference. Any recommendation for a light night cream?
Any advice gratefully accepted!
Cheers, and Happy New Year to you all!

I too follow the Dr Hauschka method of no misturiser at night which has left my skin looking radiant. However during the winter months (now) my skin starts to feel a little drier and and I get that taught feeling after cleansing and toning.
As I really did not want to start using a moisturiser, I started applying a few drops of Jojoba Oil at night and this has really helped
As for a light exfoliatiator without any rubbing taking place, have you tried the asprin mask? |

Hi Yulia - without actually touching the moisturisers at this point, may I suggest that you add a moisturising mask to your routine? I know that you have a mask but it's a clay one so that is probably adding to the dryness. Still, I would continue with the clay mask once a week and do a moisturising mask twice a week and see if things improve. Also, adding a slightly moisturising toner before the moisturiser could help.
Exfoliant wise, there are enzyme based creams for exfoliation that do not require any manual scrubbing. Dermalogica makes one (which I haven't tried but many here recommend it) and Pevonia Botanica makes one (that's the one I have). I'm sure there are more like that but those two come to mind at the moment. HTH |

Hi Yulia
I too have dehydrated skin and is much improved now. Like you, most moisturizers work for me a short while after I applied them but do not last and my skin was just flaky and not as plumped up as I'd like it to be.
For me, I find the following works:
1) Sothy's hydrating mask - it's very soothing and because my skin is so dry, I usually do not need to wipe off the excess (as the instructions state). I leave the mask over night and I wake up with smooth plump skin that lasts for 2 days. So, Mabsy's advise about 2x a week is good.
2) I find MD Formulation's Facial cream for dry skin is good for clearing out dead skin cells without irritation. In fact, I usually find my skin more radiant the next morning and absorbs other serums better. The other alternative is SKinceutical's Renew Overnight for dry skin. THey are both good as "chemical exfoliators".
3) If you do not want to upset your current practice of not applying moisturizers at night, you may also want to consider Hydrating B5 gel - it does more of a hydrating job than moisturizing.
I think you are on the right track to find an exfoliator to get rid of the dry dead skin on the surface...happy hunting!
HTH

Thanks for your replies and recommendations, your advice is much appreciated
I will definitely try a moisturising mask, I had not thought of that! The B5 Hydrating gel intrigues me too, I've just read up on it on the web and it does sound like a good alternative to a moisturiser at night.
Thanks again for your valuable comments!
Cheers
