This is a spin off to the other contact lense thread/ changing your eyecolor without contacts.
There is a new procedure that can now give your permenant eye color change. Change brown eyes to blue or green. Would you do it?
This is very exciting news. I wont be jumping on this anytime soon but in 10-15 years I may have some new baby blues or baby greens!
Here is the video with the surgery.

Yucko..
Personally, I wouldn't take the risk of impaired vision or worse, on something as precious as eye sight, just to change the eye color.
I'll stick with my baby 'greens'.

Watching him insert forceps through the cornea makes me very uncomfortable from a medical standpoint. The procedure method looks very much like a breast implant procedure which I think is completely unsuitable for the ocular organ. There are far more elements to the eye than the mammary mass and watching the procedure I felt that it was very haphazard. Providing instant gratification without concern for long term health and organ function. |

I could understand a patient wanting the transplants for improving an impaired iris, but as for something like cosmetic enhancement it just shows that we are trying to conform to a "westernised" standard of beauty. A procedure like this for a healthy person could only be to appeal to one's vanity. I noticed that there are no options to permanent change one's eye colour to more opaque shades like dark brown???? |

Eeeek!
While it's a nice enough idea in theory, I think it's not worth messing with the delicate workings of the eye. What happens if in time the novelty of the new eye colour wears off? |

I think the ironic thing is that they (newcoloriris)look just as fake - if not faker than colored contacts. |

That procedure gave me the shivers! I agree it doesn't look that natural, and how come there aren't any after pictures of people looking directly at the camera- they are all looking sideways.
It must look weird with your pupil dilates or contracts as well.
I don't think I would ever get this done- but hey if it makes you feel better, like those getting boob and nose jobs- why not? |

I agree 100%, this type of procedure would be a godsend to those with impairments such as albinism but as a purely cosmetic procedure it just seems too dangerous and as Miranets points out a kind of body facism that promotes white/western beauty ideals as preferable over other ethnicities. |

Coming from a hispanic background I totally agree. I have seen many of my beautiful relatives/friends bleach their hair until its unrecognizable, wear long sleeves in blistering heat so they dont get any darker (which I know in a way is a good idea if you are doing it for the right reasons), make fun of others because they are dark, and wear cheap colored contacts even when they are uncomfortable.
I know this was not meant to turn into this kind of debate; I apologize. Even leaving out all of that, this looks scary. Eyes are precious irreplaceable things!
However, as mentioned above, I think this is great for those born with albinism or similar defects, but those who dont "need" it should stay away! |

This doctor will make a huge amount of money, as long as he stays offshore and away from the oversight and regulation of the medical profession. No pesky safety requirements, no requirement that there be long-term patient evaluation. Just pocket the cash and on to the next one.
Sad, really sad, how white standards of beauty have become so powerful and pervasive that people would pay huge fees and take chances with their eyesight over this issue. And, after all that, the irises look weirdly fake, with none of the natural variation of a real iris. The green eyes in particular look like something out of a science fiction movie! |

Yes this looks fake now.But if enough people get on board this will get more sophisticated. Not to say that I agree with the procedure, because I don't...not even a little bit.I am wondering what will be next-I am pretty sure that you can now modify any body part you want-for crying out loud women are getting plastic surgery on their labia to make it...ehh..prettier ... |

I was actually considering this, I met with a person who had it done in real life...it is very robotic up close, but from speaking distance it is quite natural
The fake iris has no texture on it, also the pupil doesn't move, and at certain angles you can see that it is floating..
the idea is cool, but...no. The cost, danger and hassle of this surgery is nowhere near worth the results. |

That is just plain scary...you have to be so careful with your eyes, I mean you can lose your sight. That is not worth it. |
