1) when you buy on line do you shop the item first to see who offers the best deal?

***I usually shop a few sites

2) if the website is new to you, do you buy right away (assuming you like the product you see) or do you keep checking the site out and return to buy? What determines you buying from a website you have never heard of?

***sometimes I research the items first if they are new to me, but if I want the item I buy it right away, unless it is pricey than it may go on my wish list and I keep checking back

I do not necessary shop for the best deal. When buying from a website I want to make sure it has a good reputation. I have heard a lot about cheaper is not always better. Believe it or not sometimes you can pay a real low price and get packaging but not the actual product. Shock Or, or can end up getting a product that is expired or just close to its expiration date. I would rather buy from a website that has a good reputation.

I sometime buy on Ebay. I always look into feedback for the seller before I will purchase. Communication before the sale is also a must for me.

I do follow the websites that people post about on the forum. When there are several good reports from an established member I feel confident in purchasing from that site.

Reputation is everything!

I am with Winnie on this one. Reputation is important for me to shop online. I have to trust the company and be feel safe about leaving my creditcard number. I really don't like leaving my creditcard info "everywhere" on the internet! I also want to be sure I receive my products as ordered and in a good condition!

1. I look around quite a bit. There's sometimes huge differences

2. I'll watch a site for a few weeks before I buy, and I try to ask forum members if they've purchased through the particular site before.

I shop around for a while, as well. There can be tremendous variations in the price of a product from site to site, and I try to get the best deal. Reputation is also an issue so I will dig around a little and see if I can find mentions of the site around the net.

I will typically shop around for not only the best price, but the cheapest shipping costs. I refuse to pay inflated shipping rates.

I've only ordered cosmetics/skin care from EDS and Sephora. The former because of the forum and because its in Canada and I knew exactly what I was paying, the latter because its well known and they hadn't opened in Canada at the time and I sooo wanted City Lips Very Happy

As for other items, I buy a lot of clothes online from one particular site in the US and just bought two "electronic" type items on eBay. One's arrived and the other is enroute - I hope Confused

A few things, reputation, free shipping, speedy shipping, contact info (I refuse to buy from a site where no physical address or phone number can be found), feedbacks, and quality of course. For the price, I do a BRIEF check around.

I agree with Penelope -- I am so sick of inflated shipping costs. My personal favorite is FREE, but of course they make me spend all of my money on extra products to get it. Shock

Well, I generally shop around for most things but also have a few trusted sites that I am very loyal to and who will get my business even if someone else has it a bit cheaper. It comes down to customer service, reputation, previous experiences with the company etc. Oh, and samples Embarassed Laughing

ETA: I hate shipping charges too! I'm one of those people that tend to order over $200 from EDS to get the free shipping (even if I don't need all that stuff).

I only use three, EDS (the samples and great prices on my beloved Decleor!), dermstore (they often have codes for discounts and will send you samples of things without purchase if you call them), and Sephora (convenience, selection,large/well known) All three of my preferred sites list the ingredients of products on their websites which is important to me. And customer service has always been responsive for all three. Never had any problem with any of these vendors. And I really don't shop around anymore, I prefer the peace of mind of these reputable sites and knowing I won't get expired/old products. Ordered from strawberrynet once, old, dusty product, looked like it had been in someone's basement, never again! And I just don't trust ebay for fresh skincare products.

Several things are important to me, speedy shipping, contact info (i need this to check the status of my shipment, especially if it's not a very speedy delivery), reputation, and ohhh, I hate paying shipping charge. So, I am also the type of person would order a lot to avoid the S&H charge even if I dont need all the stuff (so, maybe it's a marketing strategy that they use to get people like me to spend more Laughing ). For the price, I check round a little bit.

I like to shop places with a good reputation. If you just go for the best price, there is often a catch! I'm a sucker for samples. I usually keep several items in my wishlist on Sephora so that when they have a deluxe sample giveaway I can buy something I want rather than just impulse buy something to get the samples.
I've also purchased from Nordstrom.
I spend a lot more time reading reviews and opinions on products than I do shopping for them.

I don't go for the cheapest either.

I only buy from sites which I can find references to from forums like this one.

Also, as an ex-web designer, the design/content of the site tends to influence me too. Perversely, if it's a really slick site it makes me nervous - have a feeling that they're overselling. You can make a purse out of a pig's ear online. It's what I used to have to do so regularly, make something out of nothing. So boring.

I actually go for more 'personal' sites, where there may be a shocking information overload, but you can see they're real experts - like Skinbio.

I want more information online that's one of my main reasons for shopping there rather than a daft perfume counter.
