Over the past few years I have noticed my hair is getting thinner. When I look at my Mom and Aunts it scares the heck out of me. It almost looks like my hairline is receded a little. Has anyone had this problem? Is there a product that can help? Any feedback would be appreciated. I am really depressed about this.
Thanks,
Jona |

Hi
I am sorry that you are having this problem. I am not sure but I think the skin biology website do have some products that are supposed to help with this. Check it out and I hope that you find something to help.
It iswww.skinbiology.com |

my hairdresser recommends Nioxin products for thinning hair. I haven't used it yet as my hair isn't quite to that point. I was telling her about my grandma who is very very very thin. You can see her scalp all around |

I second the Nioxin, it rocks! Whenever I use it I don't lose anywhere near as many hairs as I usually do. |

This probably won't help, but sometimes hair changes due to hormonal reasons. When I was a kid I had extremely thick hair, but when I entered my 20s it turned to a normal thickness. It also can get thinner as you enter menopause (or if you are pregnant!!) Improper nutrition can also cause hair loss. I try to maintain a healthy diet and so far all of my hair has stayed in place!! |

Unfortunately, sometimes thinning hair is a matter of hereditary. They say that if thinning hair or hair loss runs in your family, then you need to take action at the first sign of the problem. This can range from using the Nioxin products or even starting to use Rogain-For-Women. Also, there are some nutritional supplements, such as Silica (aka ‘horse-tail extract’), MSM and/or brewer’s yeast that can help promote hair growth. Just go to your pharmacy or health food store and look for supplements for “Hair/Skin/Nails.” |

You are so right Carrie. I find that I am taking after my Mom. My hair started to thin some in my late forties. I find the whole Nioxin line very good. You must be consistant with it though. I will look into supplements also. |

I am using Triaxon, and am getting excellent results. It is sold in Canada on The Shopping Channel. Hair is slowly coming back and regaining it's thickness. Also the products by skinbiology are supposed to be good, and women's rogain as well. |

I should start prevention now. I don't want to end up like my grandma. So far my mom has been fairly lucky. She lost a lot during menopause but now she's got more than she ever had before |

I'm using the Nioxin BIONUTRIENT PROTECTIVES Hair Treatment for thinning hair and so far I think its working.
Should I also use their shampoo/conditioner? I'm using Pureology shampoo/conditioner. I also feel that after so many years of coloring my hair due to early stage of gray hair (hereidtary), that thins out my hair and the last 6 to 8 months I have been noticing of my hair being thinner especially in the forehead part (where the bangs kinda hangs falls?).
I hope that Nioxin is the right product for this. |

I'm not sure if you have tradesecret stores in your area (tradesecret.com) They sell Nioxin and they used to have an earlybird special. 20% before 11 and I think it was tuesdays. There used to be a calendar on their website but I can't find it now!! |

My mom gets this mail order catalog with vitamins/nutritional supplements that cost $5 per bottle. So I was flicking thru the catalog the other day (to see if they had any hyaluronic acid/collagen supplements – see “Eureka - I’ve found ultimate lip plumper” for details on this curious combination) and I saw a couple of supplements that made me think of this thread. One of the supplements was supposed to help stop hair loss and regrow existing hair. The other was one that would supposedly stop and/or reverse grey hair (just last week someone posted a question on that very topic!!)
Unfortunately, I can’t recall either the name of the catalog or the name/s of the supplements! But I imagine if you googled using “hair loss” and “nutritional supplements” as the search words, you could get more info.
I’m sorry, I know that’s really not much help but I thought I’d pass it along anyway!
