Kristen, NCN Skincare has SKB VERY reasonably priced. I highly recommend it.

Hi salli,

i am using seamollient now, and honestly, i can't tell the difference between the two! NCN has the SKB at a nice price but seamollient is still a bit cheaper.

avalange--i remember reading about the seamollient/skb forming a barrier possibly impeding the absorption of other actives as well.

i used to use seamollient or skb (they are the same to me) mixed with a little carrier oil and applied on top of my serums and moisturizers. i have also used it mixed in my palm with my moisturizer too.

however, i read somewhere else that the seamollient makes an excellent base to deliver actives into the skin. GoW makes many serums using seamollient as a base so i am a bit divided on which is method would be more beneficial. either way, i think you're right, you're getting benefits however you use the skb/seamollient. i would just make sure to dilute the skb/seamollient and not apply it neat unless you're doing a mask as salli shared with us.

Kristen~

Can you recommend anything to dilute it?

You mentioned to not apply it neat and dilute it I was wondering what you could add to it so you wouldn't be applying it directly to your skin without diluting it. Hope that makes sense.

Dear Kristen,

If you got the APC from Osea, I hope you will post your review comparing your seamollient concoction with it! I believe that it is something very much like seamollient that osea uses as the base of its cream. thanks!

and to mardy--i just keep my skb in a little vial (one of those is clinical or sc tester tubes) and add a little to my day oil blend in my hand with some HA. It's a very nice moisturizer all in all, and I feel like I'm doing something good for my skin. Otherwise, I use Osea's Advanced Protection cream (i usually save it for nights when I'm going out), which is basically skb based and has all sorts of other goodies in it.

Hi Mardy--Sorry did not understand your question, i had moment of blankness there. I have diluted the seamollient when making serums with distilled water. it mixes nicely and doesn't separate.

Hi Avalange--If i remember correctly, seamollient is fermented red algae and I notice Osea's APC's first ingredient is red algae. I don't know if Osea ferments their red algae or does anything else special though. I will certainly compare the two as i simply love seamollient. for me, it's easier to work with than SKB, yields the same or better results and costs an arm and a leg less than SKB.

Hey guapa--i have not worked with EFG. But if it's water soluble, perhaps you can mix it with distilled water then mix it with seamollient.

salli--I tried the seamollient mixed with oat beta glucans yesterday night, misted with rose geranium hydrosol and added a patt of jojoba oil on top and misted with some more rose geranium hydrosol, and wow, i have to say my stressed skin looks awesome this morning. thanks again for posting such a neat idea.

~Kristen

I diluted my SKB with distilled water. I have it in a pump container. I pump a dime sized drop in my palm and a few drops of Silkia camellia oil. I do this after my actives. I like the feeling it leaves. However, sometimes later on if I rub my skin I get product balling up-- this is probably the SKB.

Sorry, just ask! Smile

skb= seakelp bioferment

egf= epidermal growth factor

I think there is a list of acronyms somewhere on a sticky...

Is it possible to mix seamollient with an oil to use as a moisturizer without diluting the seamollient with distilled water first?

Hi there!

Yes, as long as you don't go over 30%
with the seamollient. If so it may
very well dry with that 'crackle' look.
I would suggest mixing small amounts
so the shelf life remains stable.

Thanks Markey. I'm planning to mix emu oil, camellia oil and seamollient, but only a small amount enough for just one single use. It'll be a bit of a hassle, but at least I get a longer shelf life out of the seamollient.

What's the difference between SKB and seamollient?

Hi! To keep it simple:

SKB - has been fermented

Seamollient - has not Smile

Therefore the SKB is more bio-available to
the skin although I surely wouldn't discount the effectiveness of Seamollient. It is amazing
stuff!

when i have more time I will try to find the post that mentioned it. I only remember that it was written by someone who was more authoritative on its uses than most, so I decided to take it to heart. That said, it's clear that the main use of skb or seamollient is to form a soft, hydrating barrier on the skin, as well as nourish it with trace minerals, etc. Given the barrier issue, actives just will not penetrate as much as if you layered them before the skb... of course, i'm no expert, but it kind of makes sense to me. That's not to say you will receive no benefit from adding actives into your skb at all--I'm SURE they are benefiting your skin regardless.

I think its from the skininteractive site, and I think beamingcherries first wrote about it in one of "mind meld" threads.
