I am at my wit's end!!
I've had chronic blepharitis for months now. I've been to two different eye doctors. I've done antibiotic drops and they didn't help. The baby shampoo scrubs are not helping. I am starting to get scarring on my eyelids. My eyes look awful and I am terrified at how bad this might get. I don't want to lose all my eyelashes.
I can't figure out why this is happening to me. I'm a clean person. When it flared up I was having the worse sinus infection of my life.
Please.. has anyone gone through this? Was there any vitamin, supplement, fish oil, ANYTHING that made it go away? I'm totally desperate for answers. Thank you! |

Have you stopped using everything around your eyes? No makeup, makeup remover, oils, creams, cleansers, soaps, shampoos? Just warm distilled water soaks might help to get over it.
Have you been to a dermatologist who can look for mites, fungus or any sort of trigger?
Get rid of anything you have used before and start with all new makeup, brushes and washcloths that you use around your eyes to avoid recontamination.
Here is a discussion of someone else's eyelid problem that may help:

I don't have anything chronic, but when i do have problems with my eyelids i heal it with Emu Oil.
I guess it's pretty safe to try. |

Have you tried using heat to open the meibomian glands? I have m gland dysfunction, my dad has it too, genetic I guess. It can cause similar symptoms and often goes in tandem w/blepharitis. It causes dry eyes.
I don't have bleph but if I didn't keep treating the mem gland dysfunction it would cause similar symptoms and could turn into bleph. As long as I treat it at home I have no problems, even wear contacts every day. If I let if go, though, dry inflamed irritated eyelid margins and eyes.
Meibomian blepharitis
This is also known as meibomian gland dysfunction. The tiny meibomian glands in the eyelids lie just behind the eyelashes. You have about 25-30 meibomian glands on each upper and lower eyelid. They make a small amount of oily fluid which comes out on the inside of the eyelids next to the eye. This oily fluid forms the outer layer of the tear film which lubricates the front of the eye. People with meibomian blepharitis are thought to have a slight problem with their meibomian glands and the fluid they produce. This may lead to eyelid inflammation. (This also explains why people with meibomian blepharitis often have dry eyes as the fluid they make may not be adequate to lubricate the eye.)
Combinations of the above
In practice, it is often not possible to tell the difference between the above causes. Indeed, seborrhoeic blepharitis commonly occurs together with meibomian blepharitis. Furthermore, skin which is inflamed in any way is more likely to become infected by staphylococcus. So, all three causes may contribute to each case of blepharitis, with the main cause varying.

Ocusoft makes a great lid scrub, comes in a little foaming push to dispense bottle, works tons better than baby shampoo imo. |

In the past I have had severe blepharitis also.
Here's what has worked for me...
I started cleaning all around my eyes with a mixture of water and ACV (apple cider vinegar).
Of course you have to use just a little vinegar, perhaps a few drops in water and not get it in your eyes (it will sting). I would go around my eyes with a Q tip dipped in the mixture.
That got rid of the Blepharitis.
I now clean my eyes with Ocusoft lid scrub cleanser. I use the bottle at home and when I travel I use the packets with the moistened cloths. I take my eye makeup off with coconut oil and then wash with the Ocusoft. Haven't had an outbreak in a few years. HTH |
