I was wondering if any of you awesome peeps have any advice or know of good resources for staging an alcohol intervention -- that is, getting a serious alcoholic off of alcohol. I've never staged an intervention before, so would really appreciate any help or advice on what to do to confront a friend. |

no advice - just that your heart is in the right place and good luck.
If it does not work, not your fault. Sometimes it takes many tries, and this person is so lucky that you love/care enough.
blessings. |

What do you mean by "alcoholism is a disease of the heart?" |

My heart goes out to you.
Is this an adult over the age of 18?
My husband and I went to group meetings for families with a child (or more) with drug problems including alcohol. This was a huge help. Our group counselor was an alcoholic but has been sober for over 30 years. He had so much wisdom about teenagers. It also was a great help that we were with other adults that had kids with drug problems.
Al-anon is for families living with someone with a problem with alcohol. AA is for someone with a drinking problem who decides ON THEIR OWN that they need to change.
I am in SW Ontario. You can always PM me.
If you don't want to go the support group route, I can suggest a couple of books. The group was free; the help and support was priceless. |

But her friend needs to decide to go on their own. You cannot push anyone to a meeting (even teenagers or minors.) |

My mother is a recovering alcholic - 25 years sober. No type of intervention helped. One day she just decided she would never drink and and she never picked up another glass. To this day, I do not know what pushed her to make that decision.
I have a dear friend that is struggling right now. I am watching him drink his life away. He is so talented and it pains me to watch. There is nothing I can do but offer love and support.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your friend. |

Thanks so much, mismis! It's really hard to come to grips with. Fortunately, I have another friend who is going to help with the intervention.

That's great and really encouraging! What did you find helped the most? For this particular person, I fear that part of the problem is that he never found meaning and fulfillment in life...so it's like needing to solve 2 problems at once...I don't know if this is similar to what you are talking about above...

That's awesome! Thanks so much. That's really kind of you, Autumn1995. I may do so.

That's really encouraging, erg. This person has been drinking for a long time, too.
