Anyone ever badly bruised their breast? Help!

One of my "girls" needs help (well at least some sympathy).

9 nights ago, whilst I was playing chief nurse to both my parents following their operations (and having been turfed from the hospital well before they should have because they were out of bed space.. dont get me started on that..).. well, yes, as I was saying...

The first night home I slept with my door half open so I could hear them if they needed me during the night (usually I sleep with it shut and could not have it fully open as I was reading till late).. can you see where this is leading?

So 3.30 am the phone goes and faster than superman I leap out of bed and BOLT toward the living room, in the pitch dark, still half-asleep (and possibly eyes closed).. totally forgetting the door was half shut and went WHAM right into the edge of the door with the right hand side of my body.

The only thing that saved my face (I think) was that I had put my arm out (I presume to open the door Rolling Eyes

).... the tip of my big toe caught the sharp edge (and was black for almost a week)... my inner right thigh from the knee bend and up about 6 inches is just purple and black and extremely painful (still).. and of course my right breast also slammed into the actual edge of the door (I kind of ended up sandwiched between the wardrobe and the door).

I iced the leg for an hour after (and also the breast a little) and applied Weleda Arnica massage oil (which thankfully I had taken home for my dad). I repeated this the next night and used the oil for several more days..

whilst the breast hurt like hell, no bruising came out, though 24 hours after when I glanced in the mirror I could see markings on my breast (but when I looked down it was not apparent). After about 5 days an area of my breast (around 4" x 2") went bright yellow with deep purple dots.

The yellow brusing is starting to fade but the purple parts are not yet.. but what has me worried is that tonight when I was putting on the Weleda Arnika gel (that I was fortunate enough to have asked DH to bring back from Germany) I noticed that there is at least one largish lump under the bruising. Now I am not panicking, as I am 100% sure it was not there before and I guess the whack has given me some scar tissue..but I know I need to go and have it looked at. Problem is that at the moment I could not bear to have anyone poking and prodding at the area (and god forbid they would want to crush it for a mamogram)..

So as the end of this drawn out story.. has anyone else ever had such brusing on their breast? Did you have alump? did it go away by itself or did you need to have some treatment? What else can I do to make my poor sad boobie feel better (besides treating it to the Cellcosmet Cellbust XT-A cream -- see post on skincare board --)?

aww poor you! Ouch that must have been painful Shock

I would wait another couple days and see if the bruising and lump will go down. I dont think you have anything to worry about.

Oooooow! That must have really hurt!

Poor you! I'd just keep on with the Arnica, as I don't have any more suggestions, I'm afraid.

Hope you feel better soon and how are your Mum and Dad doing now?

Hi Tiger Tim,

So sorry to hear about your accident!!
Firstly you did the right thing by putting Arnica on the bruising - it will have reduced the swelling and the bruising!

The lump underneath your bruise is completely normal. When you "bang" an area hard enough blood rushes to the area, this causes a lump under the bruise. Please don't worry - this will reduce as the bruise does. If you can stand it some light massage to the area would help - but if you can't stand it right now then the lump will go away in time.

Obviously if the lump doesn't go away as the bruise fades then get it checked out but I have seen hundreds of these blood bumps in A and E.

Hi Tiger_tim! Unfortunately, I know just how you are feeling. I've also bruised my breast before. It was sore as all heck and there was a big lump, but it went away in just a few days. I hope your injury gets better soon too, keep us updated!

Um, I get bruises all the time in that area...I play roller derby and anything above the hip and below the shoulders is fair game for a hit!
The worst is when I've got a girl skating in front of me, she shifts to turn and plants her should square in my breast during a game...legal (ugh! Mad

) and painful!

I ice the bruises, but it's never anything permanent.
Just sore Confused

Then I spend a few painful days hitting the bruise what seems like all the time!!!!

The Arnica gel works a lot better than the Arnical oil (which is actually designed for sports/aching muscle massage). I will forever more keep a tube of the Weleda Arnica Gelee in my medicine cabinet. It is a wonder gel.

Oh and it has an added benefit. If you ever need to put your significant other "out of the mood" Wink

all you need to do is slather this stuff on and waft the area (and if you can the tube) under his nose. He will run for the hills. Laughing

(dont let me put you off with my smell stories, it does not linger)

I had an experience where my left boob just started hurting out of the blue (because to this day I don't remember hurting it). Anyways there was no bruise but somehow I felt a lump (not visible) just sort of a little bump inside not hard but not as soft as the other parts of my boob. I sort of panicked a bit, never got it looked at because a month prior I had my regular woman's checkup so I thought - if there were any problems then someone would've told me something. I still don't know what happened but a while - 2 weeks to a month later it just stopped hurting and the lump was gone.

Hopefully your lump will go away naturally as well.

I would go with the Cellcosmet. It won't get rid of the lump but it will improve the skin and it will do wonders for your morale while you are in this condition. Just remember to check on the lump in a week or so and make sure it has gone. If not, see your doc asap

While I frequently have small bruises on my breasts (I have 4 big dogs that can be very rough sometimes), I have only had one bad bruise that scared me (well, two, but the second was caused by a cyst aspiration after an iffy mammo).

I was in my early 20's and one day I was in the shower & noticed this horrible bruise on my breast. I had no idea where it came from, so I headed to the doctor asap. The (male) doctor kept asking if I was sure if no one had bitten me (like rough play). I wanted to punch him, but I just assured him that if anyone had bitten me hard enough to leave a bruise I would most definitely remember it, and the guy would probably be sporting a bruise just as bad or worse!

We did a mammo (ouch) and nothing out of the ordinary was noted. We eventually decided it must have been from my seatbelt pinching me during a hard brake or something.

Good luck with your situation. It should go away before too long - I've had those bruises with the lump under them before - they do go away. Try taking some Vit C - it's supposed to help the body reabsorb the blood from the bruise.

I've never bruised mine, but boy did I hurt the "girls" in pilates. I was a wee bit overzelous Confused

!! a few good old anti inflamatories (spelling sry) and I was good as new. I will say the pain was HUGE. Best of luck

I was searching to see if what felt like a lump where the bruising is was what I thought and this discussion pretty much verifies it for me. I've got a "sweetie" and he's got some tendon injuries in his hands so he sometimes gets too rough. I currently have a bruise and today I noticed that there is a bit of a lump exactly where the bruise is, but today I'm feeling some pain in the deeper tissue. Will have to tell my "sweetie" that he's going to have to be a lot more careful. Laughing

I had that happen twice and on the last one the "lump" developed into a cyst. I finally had to have it aspirated when it did not dissolve after a few months. We had it checked with an ultrasound and mammography to just double check it and not take a chance. The doctor said that was very common to have them develop if they don't dissolve on their own. I tend to develop scar tissue or "keloid". Most of the time they go away on their own.

The hematoma is slowly dissolving. I've been using Arnica on it as often as I can remember. My sweetie was surprised when I showed it to him. At least he felt true remorse.
