What she's saying defies logic to me. An oil is occlusive - full stop. Doesn't matter whether it's thick or thin - oil and water don't mix. Not sure about creams containing wax but they may contain an oil. If they do, they will also contain an emulsifier to bind the two together - because, as we know, oil and water don't mix.
There's no point in applying an oil first because it is occlusive, it will mean anything placed over the top of it will be blocked. Much better to apply the serum or cream and then the oil. This is standard practice. |
While it's true that oil and water don't mix, our skin is made up of more than water! This article is interesting, the "outcome" states (bolding mine):

The studies as described above allow to draw a sketch for the behaviour of oils on skin and their penetration into skin. Figure 2 shows the difference, 2A for vegetable oils, 2B for paraffin oil. In both cases the oil is forming a more or less close layer on top of the skin, still allowing the skin to breathe as TEWL values indicate. Also, both oil types penetrate into the upper skin layers of the stratum corneum. However, 2A illustrates that vegetable oils due to their composition being similar to skin lipids i.e. skin compatible are taken up by the skin through enzymatic decomposition. That is what gives the well-known direct caring effect for e.g. dry and cracked skin. In contrast 2B shows that cosmetic paraffin oil - usually used in pharmaceutical grade with only saturated hydrocarbon chains and thus being chemically inert - is not metabolized while penetrating the upper skin layers of stratum corneum. So, paraffin oil, also lacking in active constituents compared to vegetable oils, does not have a direct caring effect, because it does not have a nutritional benefit for the skin. In contrast vegetable oils are known and often preferred for direct caring of skin due to the fact that they contain important components like triglycerides, flavonoids,
phytosterols and tocopherols |

Hi Havana8
I tried two bottles, but must admit slipped up and havent ordered the maintenance. It is quite an expensive treatment, 375 dollars for two months, then 200 thereafter although that should last longer. One bottle has only 15 uses. Anyway not sure if I saw any difference in my skin, although it did feel softer, but I did use oil before as instructed, so it could have been that. The face oils are very nice, and I think if you look on the website, they did trials with one, with good results. So would I buy it again, only if it was cheaper. I just felt it was doing something good if that makes sense.
also another factor was that the customs charge for me, was over 100 dollars, I live in the uk, so really really turned out expensive for me. |

Thanks for the update, zizi! I still have a hard time believing the price. Regarding maintenance, I think I read it only needs to be used once per week although the size is still only .5 oz. |

I've been using the Marie Veronique Pacific Night Serum with Retinol for a few months now and I'm absolutely loving it! It's a bit pricier than some other retinol products, but the results are definitely worth it.
I recently saw GMA (dealsandstealstodaycom/) feature this serum, and they raved about its ability to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. I was already impressed with the results I was seeing, but after watching the segment, I'm even more convinced that this is a game changer for skincare.
The serum has a lightweight texture that absorbs quickly into the skin, and it doesn't leave any greasy residue behind. I've noticed a significant improvement in the appearance of my pores and a smoother, more even skin tone. Plus, it's gentle enough for sensitive skin.
If you're looking for a high quality retinol serum that delivers amazing results, I highly recommend giving the Marie Veronique Pacific Night Serum a try. |
