I got a haircut today. Much more like a needed trim and face framing layers . As the stylist was cutting my hair, we started talking about its condition. She told me that she had noticed the many "hues" in my hair (Natural brunette with many different redish/blondish highlights throughout entire head. Top had been bleached and now is covered with a semipermanent dye to match brown hair). She stated that she was very surprised on how healthy my hair was with all it had seemed to have been through.
What got me though was when she said that my hair is perfectly and completely healthy but is quite coarse. What does this mean? Wouldn't coarse mean that it is dry/ frizzly/ unmanagable and unhealthy?
Just wondering. Any input would be great.

I think she was referring to the individual strands of hair being very thick. If your hair is long enough to braid, would it make one of those beautiful, thick braids (that I've always envied, by the way... ) ?
An example in the opposite - I have tons of little fine strands, so when I blow dry it, I look like a mushroom head, but when I braid it, the braid is thin.
Does this make sense?
In any event, I think it was a compliment! |

Yep, that makes sense. Although, I do have thin hair on the top of my head from it being bleached and colored. Whatever works.
My hair is sort of long enough to braid. But having layers and such shorter hair now than before, I don't think it will create a thick braid. Unfortunately .
Thanks so much for the explanation though. I was starting to get worried that my hair had become rough and brittle.

I also think that she was referring to your thick being thick. |

as someone who has very coarse hair, she does indeed mean you have thick individual strands. my hair, for instance, resembles a horse's mane.... that's good -- it means you have strong hair! but it also means your hair is probably more poreous and you should take care and keep it conditioned lest it become dry as you get older. |
