Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum but have been reading your discussions for the last few months and just had to join in!
After seeing some talk about the Decleor Essential Balm I had to buy it (I'm such a product junkie and always out to try new things) and after using it last night I'm am very impressed so just had to share that with you all.
Thanks Mabsy for your comments about it, but I just have one question, should I use a moisturiser before/after putting the balm on? It doesn't say on the packaging and, maybe I wasn't using enough, but my skin felt a little dry so I slapped a bit of my Dermalogica moisturiser over the top - is that bad?
Anyway, glad to finally be able to join in the conversation and I can tell you that it is a lovely day in New Zealand today! |

my bf has good skin and i was surprised to see a bottle of decleor essential balm with him becoz he has a 'heck care' attitude about his appearance (like washing face with soap, or NOT washing face in the morning! eeks)
anyway he bothers to use the balm (his only "beauty
product), though, whenever he gets zits, and he says that it does miracles in zapping the rare pimple he gets. he just dabbed a very small amount, else it will be too drying and the skin will start to peel. hence i think it shdn't be a problem to dab some moisturiser over the top as i reckon this is a very drying product :0 |

After reading all the raves, I have also purchased a pot of Declor Essential Balm, I dont exactly know why I bought it, I dont really have a reason or purpose to buy, so, what should I do with it??? I assume that it is a kind of rich "moisurizer" (I havent opened it yet, havent tried it yet!!!), but reading Kiwigirl and Wiffy's reviews, it seems that it's not, what is it exactly, why there was a peeling effect? Why it could be too drying? The instruction that comes with the pdt didnt have full description or explanation, reading the instructions on the package, I thought I had to use it every night, all over the face? Should I? or should I not? Oh~ maybe the first question I should ask is whether this pdt is suitable for me? I have combo to oily skin (in summer), occasional breakouts. Thanks in advance for your help! |

Kiwigirl - Welcome to the forum! Glad you decided to join in I have never really needed to use moituriser over the Essential Balm and have never found it drying either. I have normal to combo skin though. I'm not sure what to tell you about using a moisturiser with it, and I don't want to give you the wrong advice so perhaps it's best that you email the lovely ladies at EDS and ask them? The balm is supposed to be a balancing/decongesting treatment for skin, thanks to the natural oils. In my opinion, adding a moisturiser might wreck that. I would probably tend to either use more of it or use one of the oil essences with it (like Neroli or maybe even Angelique for very dry skins) - but I'd try to keep it to things with natural ingredients. Also, make sure that you are warming it up in between your fingers before you put it on - it's supposed to turn into an almost clear oil like texture. Hope you'll let us know how you're going with it.
Bbiz - That sounds like so many of my purchases! It should suit your skin type - it's supposed to be best for combo or oily skin. You need to take a little bit of it and warm it up between your fingertips then apply it to your face overnight. I don't think there is any peeling that occurs with this balm (certainly didn't for me) - however what Wiffy described could simply be because the skin over the pimple was going to peel anyway and the balm softened it up. I'm really guessing here because I have never found it drying at all.

, I tried the Essential Balm, and it has so many fragrant oils in it it made me sneeze within seconds. It also made my skin itch. Not for me I guess. |

hey, hey, hey .. I am about to put on the essential balm after cleansing my face, but then a question came up, should I use anything underneath or above? am I supposed to just use the essential balm alone as a treatment? Thanks!!!
Update: I just put it on .. it's very soothing~~ feeling wonderful! It's a bit thick in the pot, and it's also a bit difficult to smooth it out on the face (maybe I need to warm it up longer with my fingers), but it's not greasy at all, it just sinks right in my skin.. Like the smell too, I generally prefer fragrance-free, but this smell is actually one of the things that provides the soothing effect (I guess) , not yet known the results, but everything else has been positive .. hope it will not disappoint me |

Hi girls,
thanks for the tips about the balm, as I suspected, I hadn't quite used enough and last night when I put it on I got a bit more out of the pot and was much happier with the result. Totally loving it though, I keep openeing the pot just to smell it and even my bf said "wow, you smell good" (like I don't usually?!).
Anyway, will keep you up to date on the progress, but very happy with it so far.
I think I've found my natural home on this forum, no one else quite understands my obsession with skincare products, or why I might possibly need more than 3 types of cleanser (of course I would, they are total philistines!). I love the fact that there are many of you that are totally on my wavelength! |

Hey Bbiz - I use it just by itself - nothing under or over.
Glad you're both liking the smell of it and I hope you both see some good results with it. I so agree with your 3 types of cleanser line Kiwigirl!

Hiya,
May I suggest ylang ylang for those with more oily congested skin as alternative or in addtion to the balm? I've tried with the neroli but it's just too rich for my skin - although it's nice dabbed round the eye if you're skin is de-hydrated -Probably best if you can get a sample.
I've tried the balm and if I'm honest gave up before really giving it a chance. Reading the ingredients and seeing wax put me off thinking it could work as surely a wax will sit on the skin??
But like many things skin products work for us on an individual basis. |

Update: okay so now I've been using it for 3 nights and am totally in love! the next day my skin is fantastic and i'm having good results with clearing up my blemishes (yes, i know, i know, don't touch your face, but i sit at a computer all day long and it is difficult to remember this...).
eve, i understand your worries about the wax content, but actually the balm kind of melts into your skin - very difficult to explain unless you've tried it yourself, so i'd really recommend you give it a go. the best bit is that it smells great!
mabsy, i was being conserative on my '3' types of cleanser, it's probably more like 4, or 5, or... |

Kiwigirl - I'm guessing it's more the "or...." (>5) on the cleanser front Not to worry, I'm sure heaps of people here are the same From memory, at the moment I'm in the "7" category though two of those I'm not liking (BeneFit Mint Wash and Napoleon Cleansing Foam) so it's more like 5 Btw, so glad that Essential Balm is working well for you!
Eve - Kiwigirl is right, when you warm up the balm in your fingers it turns to an almost oil consistency and it doesn't sit on top of your skin at all. |

I know I have used it.
I'm just saying as it is wax based I'm convinced of it ability to penetrate the skin like an oil would, as a method a carrying the essential oils then fine but not something that films the skin.
Liz Earle's Essential Balm on the other hand in not wax based and melts very easily. |

Sorry I didn't read your post properly, I thought you said you had used it but found that it sat on top of your skin. Having gone back and re-read, you didn't say that at all.... I'll just blame that on the fact that it's late

I love the Essential Balm, have used it for about 8 months on and off now. I normally use Neroil Oil underneth it...dont know if I'm supposed to do that! I normally break out with a few spots after a few days but then my skin clears right up....I wouldnt be without it now...I just ordered my boyfriend some of the essential Balm for men from EDS, lets see what he thinks!... |

Glad to hear so many positives about the balm, I am totally sold after my initial 'oops' of not using enough of it.
I forgot to say in my initial rave, I'm 29 (sheesh, that's the first time I've saif that - just had my birthday, it's a slippery slope from here now...) with normal to dry-ish skin, although i do have the tendency for breakouts (damn it, when will pimples ever end!?!)...
Mabsy: my current favourite cleanser (this week) is dermalogica anti-bac, nice tingly minty feeling, feels like I'm REALLY doing something! but who knows, next week I may very well have moved on to something else, my bf thinks I'm crazy but he has his little computer game thingies (what is with that?) and I have my skincare... |

That's the same reason why I like the Dermalogica Dermal Clay cleanser - love the minty feeling. I wouldn't recommend it to you if you have dry skin though - probably best for combo/oily. |

Yeah, I really want to try it but think my skin is a bit dry these days, especially with winter coming on (in the southern hemisphere anyway). Will keep on with ALL the other cleansers I have...
I also love the fact that I can quote you in my posts (just learned how to do this and am impressed with my technological skills)... |

Just back home, got a lot a lot to catch up .. hehe .. Let me tell my experience with the essential balm~
It's been about a week since I first started the essential balm, I only use it at night by itself except for the eye areas.
I have to say that I really like the texture and the smell of the balm, the next morning I woke up, I had soft and glowing skin. unfortunately, I think my skin has reaction to the plant-based ingredients, I am not sure, I've had this experience before with aveda products .. I have little tiny red spots on my cheeks, I first thought balm is working, but more and more spots appeared and they are itchy that I started to worry that they wouldnt go away forever even though I still have the thought that it might be what the balm's been working .. .. anyway, I stopped using it... I dont know, I really want that it would work for me coz it seemed to be a great stuff .. and it did, the softness and the glow!!! just that the red spots are too annoying .. *sigh* |

bbiz, that is not good news about the balm hope you are okay now.
a friend of mine once used a body shop mask and her face swelled up like a balloon, so bad we had to run off to the dermatologist's and get some special steriod cream to make it go down, not a good look! sounds as though yours wasn't quite that bad but still distressing |

Hi Bbiz - that's a shame I hope your skin's cleared up though. I know some people may get an initial break-out with the use the balm but what you're describing sounds very much like a reaction though. If you haven't started using anything else that is new then then it sounds like your skin is not too impressed with some of the natural ingredients. If you have started using other stuff then you could try testing each of the products on a (very) small area only and see if you get a reaction there at all.

Thanks ladies!! In fact, I am not sure if the stress from last week's travel counted as well, or some hormonal stuffs have been going on at the same time .. anyway, I will be giving the balm another chance after my skin has been cleared up , right now, it's not too bad, they are not too obvious as they are really small but I can feel them with my hands.. Luckily, they are less itchy now, I try to avoid scatching them.. right, this time, I am going to introduce it to my skin slowly and little by little, let see again |
