I'll be glad to give you guys my thoughts, but please keep in mind, I am not the authority on C serums...
'simran'.. I think that C-Esters and other vitamin C derivatives serve their purpose as a nice antioxidant, but I don't believe they have the potential to stimulate collagen synthesis... What they do have going for them is they aren't pH dependant (that I've heard), so can be formulated with lots of other ingredients which increases their stability, thereby increasing their shelf life. Also keep in mind that vitamin C derivatives must be converted to ascorbic acid in the cells, in order to be effective. (Much like retinyl palmitate must be converted to retinoic acid, before it can be utilized.)
I love most of the JB Alpha Derma line of skincare, and think it's top quality with great ingredients...I just don't feel their Vitamin C derivatives serve my purpose.
'foxe'.. tangerine oil, camphor, lavender oil and mint extract offer the scents and tingle to trick the senses IMHO. Tangerine oil smells just like the name implies, as does mint extract. Camphor is quite medicinal smelling. To me the message they impart is quite clear; If it smells like a duck, and tingles like a duck, it must be a duck.. Lavender oil I'll give the benefit of the doubt, only because I don't think their is enough of it in there to really be good or bad. It's quite pungent smelling also.
SKB is 'Sea Kelp Bioferment', and I get mine at NCN who has the very best price (8oz @ $25. last time I purchased). For L-AA there is no question that Lotioncrafter's is the most user friendly, as it dissolves very quickly in distilled water.
I ventured a guess that the C-Boost had the optimal 7% for THDA, so 8% is good news!
You could absolutely apply a simple water based L-AA serum 1st, and follow that up with the C-Boost. (I would let the L-AA serum absorb 5 minutes if you do it as follows, then apply the CB.) For quick penetration and also to help keep it stable for a week, you could make 1/2oz @ a 15% concentration with 1/2 tsp L-AA, 2 1/2 tsp distilled water + 1/2 tsp of vodka. Keep refrigerated! (I've done this a few times and didn't see any yellowing at the 2 week mark, but pitched it anyway, just because...(Quite easy to err on the side of caution when you DIY... )
You're idea of 2 separate serums is fabulous, and gives you the best of both worlds.... One little thing I would encourage though, is to add 1% vitamin E oil to the C-Boost... (If you have virgin palm oil on hand, that would be the absolute best choice!)
Hope that helped!
ETA: One study I saw which claimed good results for the combination of L-AA and THDA used 10% L-AA and 7% THDA... You could adjust accordingly if you don't want to use 15% as I've posted aboved.. (I would encourage you to go for the 15% though, because it does lose a bit of potency once it's introduced to water, and with each passing day..) |

ETA: The last 4 ingredients in the C-Boost are there to *trick* your senses into believing it *must* be working! (I'd give the benefit of the doubt to the Lavender oil.) |
Well, the "stuff" never tricked my senses, nor my skin for that matter, that it was working! I will say though that I personally never felt any sensation of tingling, etc. with either the C-Boost or the Lightening Drops (same stuff with a higher % of C). |
