I'm starting this to keep track of a few of us who are going to be working on addressing and healing our Candida. Both TAMgirl and myself (also Racergirl) are starting on a program to cleanse the little b-tards. Here's where we purchased:
Here's the initial link explaining the prices. I paid $14.95 for a yearly membership to obtain the wholesale pricing: http://www.candidasupport.org/candida_cleanse.html#order
These are the product kits: http://www.ghtdiscountclub.com/YeastRecoveryPrograms.aspx?ID=support3
Here's a wonderful link originally posted by ScotsLass (thanks) that outlines all manner of information regarding Candida:

I commend you ladies!
This is something I've been trying to get myself to do, just haven't been disciplined enough to follow through.
However, what got me interested in candida was a very informative book called "The Body Ecology Diet", "A reading for anyone with Digestive Disorders, Candidiasis, Chronic Fatigue...". I have the 4th edition..but last time I checked I think they were up to 8 editions.
I also found this woman's website helpful:
http://www.geocities.com/hotsprings/4966/mystory.htm
Has anyone else heard of the Formula SF722 that she used?
Can't wait to hear how this works out for everyone
ETA: Anyone in the Atlanta area, the restaurant R. Thomas has Body Ecology/Candida friendly meals on their menu. I've also seen the R. Thomas fermented veggies and other things on end caps in a few grocery stores. |

Hi Scally! While at Chapters yesterday I was lucky enough to find a copy of "The Cure Is In The Cupboard - How To Use Oregano for Better Health" by Dr. Cass Ingrams. This book is so informative and an absolute must have if you really want to know about the health benefits and conditions that you can treat with Wild Mediterranean Oil of Oregano. It also includes specific directions on how much oil to use topically and/or orally to treat each illness/ailment.
The book was particularly insightful about Candida and how difficult it is to cure. I did a double-take when I came across the passage that stated Oil of Oregano taken topically and orally will conclusively kill off this insideous yeast/fungi. In fact, the book goes as far to say that in every single lab study and test that was performed, the ONLY thing that truly eradicated the Candida yeast/fungi (both skin and blood-born) was Oil of Oregano. It especially blew the pants off of pharmaceutical grade products (GOOD-BYE CANESTEN, et al!!! ). Another eye-opener was discovering that Candida was the only fungus that survived the nuclear bomb tests in the 40's and 50's (think about that...the ONLY one!). Even the US Federal Government got in on the act in an attempt to prove this medicinal spice was ineffective and discovered the complete opposite. Oil of Oregano killed every germ it was tested against, including nine pathogens (some of which were salmonella, E.coli, listeria, staph, pseudomonas, and molds). Pretty amazing stuff, eh!!!
I'm trying really, really hard right now to ignore the results of my saliva test and the fact that my body is likely crawling with some form of mutating Candida <GAG!>. Thanks to this book I am anxious to start with Ingrams recommended amounts of oil AND capsules every day! That's right, to treat chronic Candida there are Oil of Oregano capsules that Dr. Ingrams suggests you take (in addition to the oil under the tongue and oil added to your shampoo and liquid soap, etc.). The capsules contain crushed wild oregano herb which is very potent and helps to attack the Candida in your intestines. The purpose of using both the capsules and the oil is to efficiently cover every angle. The oregano oil can also be diluted with cold-pressed organic olive oil and applied directly to your skin to cure rashes or severe itch (a definite sign of skin Candida). NOTE: you should never apply the oil to your skin without diluting it first as it is extremely strong and spicy and is guaranteed to BURN upon contact (be especially careful applying a diluted solution around the genital area - ouch!). Another interesting medicinal benefit of Oil of Oregano is it claims to kill the Super-germs that are antibiotic-resistant (guess I'll be storing up on this before the Pandemic flu arrives!). This spice also purportedly destroys the Herpes virus!! My God, this stuff sounds like the HG of all antiseptics, doesn't it??? -
Now I realize you (and a few others) have just committed to trying the Threelac system from the link I originally posted, so I'm not certain if you'll want to continue along that route or return it and attempt the Oil of Oregano system instead. I have definitely decided to try to the Oil of Oregano program alone (based on the book above) and monitor my results without any other product interference so that I can clearly identify what is working. If what Dr. Ingrams says is true, Candida is a multi-pronged beast that is extremely difficult to kill because it continually mutates. He is quite convincing in his explanations that nothing he has tested Candida against could kill it except for Oil of Oregano. BTW - he suffered from a chronic blood-born fungal infection for a period of his life that virtually disabled him - this is what caused him to explore Oil of Oregano.
Like everyone else these days, Ingram has his own line of Wild Meditteranean Oil of Oregano products. Based on my findings so far, I'm fairly confident about sourcing the oil elsewhere. But I will try his specific Oil of Oregano capsules because I do not believe anyone else makes them (his products sound like good quality as well!).
So, what does everyone think? Does this sound too good to be true? |

Hi ladies!
Okay, I have battled with candida for years and years which I attribute mostly to the hoards of antibiotics I did in my youth for ear infections and acne. Ugh.
Anyways, there are several things that I've done that have helped. It's hard to say that any one thing cinched it (actually, there is one thing that nipped it in the bud but it's pretty unconventional- will mention it later), but for me I think it has taken several rounds of treatments in order to get it under control. Let me just say, that I don't think there is any ONE product that it going to rid you of your candida problem. I know some advertise that they are kind of the golden ticket to recovery. Gotta watch out for those!
My body is actually pretty tricky, so not everyone may need to try everything that I have. But I'll still include it all.
I found that adhering to a strict candida diet was very important. I think that the "Body Ecology Diet" is a good source of info and fermented foods are very helpful. However I found out that I have an allergy to one of the strains of bacteria responsible for fermenting/culturing, so that complicated things for me. I found that high quality probiotics were very important- especially the kind that you find in the refrigerated section of HFS. They generally have more potency. I like the Pharmax HLC line, but there are many good ones.
I tried Oil of Oregano and other such products, and found them to be helpful, too. But keep in mind that anti-fungals need to be cycled on a regular basis so that the body doesn't become resistant to them.
Another VERY helpful therapy- colon hydrotherapy. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but it's effective! Following up with a rectal probiotic implant is almost essential. The colonic helps flush bacteria out of the system and the implant brings in the big guns. Make sure you find a good therapist that is knowledgeable and knows to use warm water when dealing with dysbiosis/candida.
Keep in mind that when you are dealing with candida, you are often also dealing with "leaky gut", so healing the intestinal lining is just as important as restoring the proper balance of bacteria. Supplements containing L-Glutamine and Glucosamine are helpful with this.
Finally, I found a ton of help from a therapy called NMT that my naturopath practices. The website is http://www.nmt.md/PatientIndex.cfm. It is very unconventional medicine, but extremely effective. I have been dealing with digestive issues, candida, food allergies, immune stuff, etc., for a long time and this is the only thing that has really resolved many of these issues for me- including the candida. I think this is because the candida problem was intermingled with other things for me, like leaky gut and allergies to certain beneficial bacteria and anti-fungals.
So. There ya go! I don't know if this is helpful for anyone, or simply overwhelming.
Best of health to y'all! Let me know if I can be of any help. |

Scalawaggirl - the protein I take is by Nutriway/Nutrilite. I believe it is a certified organic soy/milk powder which has a full spectrum of all essential amino acids and has a protein quantity of about 80%+ (most brands I have seen are only 30-60%) and the yield rate (how much of the product is turned into useful amino acids) once digested is about 60% - even higher when supplemented with a good B complex.
I have not done much research on other brands of protein powders though there are myriads, as they are mainly whey protein and taste rather awful and synthetic. I have become accustomed to the taste of the powder (after 2 years!) it is slightly dull flour like, but I don't add anything to it and actually is a comfort food for me in the mornings to energise me.
So if anyone else is interested to supplement protein (I supplement around 30g a day, the RDI I take into account is 1g protein: 1kg of body weight).. look for something that tells you the breakdown of amino acids, not just total protein yield as it may be imbalanced. Also try to look for GE free soy and organic milk sources, synthetics are inferior in quality.
HTH
ETA: To clarify, an essential amino acid is something the body cannot produce by itself, must be supplemented from the diet. So if you don't eat a wide spectrum of protein sources you are bound to be deficient in one or more essential amino acids.
As from Wikipedia, there is a list of the essential amino acids - and RDI
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Essential_amino_acid |
Hi Miranets - I am a huge fan of protein powder supplements and have spent several years trying a lot of different brands. The biggest turn-off for me has always been flavor and texture, so finding a powder that dissolves quickly and smoothly as well as tastes reasonably good has been EXTREMELY difficult. With that said, I have indeed found my HG of powders (woo hoo!!!). It's made right here in Toronto by Genuine Health and is called Proteins+. Not only does it taste good and dissolve properly it also contains: the ideal amino acid profile; a signficant amount of protein per serving (25g); VERY low calories per serving (only 110); no dairy; and the option of CALCIUM - which is not found in any other product on the market. As I am twice as old as you and seriously need the added boon of Calcium to supplement my lactose issues and to address any osteoporosis concerns, having this included in the powder is a major benefit for me. (Oh, and the product claims that the calcium will help me lose an extra 11 pounds per year!! Who can resist that, right!!! ). For more info, click here - http://www.genuinehealth.com/english/pbn/index.php?id=24§ion=88
Being lactose intolerant sadly means your soy/milk p-powder by Nutriway would not be suitable for me. After reviewing the nutritional info in Nutriway ( http://www.a2k.com.au/servlet/a2k?page=productDetail&vsNumber=128&categoryId=40501 ), I was surprised to find that it is very high in calories (450 cal per 24g of protein). This is probably not an issue for you but would negate some of my weight-loss efforts (again, I'm an older chick so my metabolism just isn't as quick to burn off those calories anymore - ).
I realise you haven't experimented with many other p-powders so I thought I would share this specific line with you as a future option. You can buy Proteins+ from this website which offers free shipping into the US from Canada on orders over $90. http://www.canadadrugsuperstore.com/search_results.asp?DrugName=genuine+health&Type=3&CC=2&AW=0&O=1
Lastly, I have to mention also that I LOVE the Greens+Extra Energy powder by Genuine Health. The combination of the Proteins+ with this powder really reduces my sugar cravings and helps me combate the horrible fatigue I tend to experience on a regular basis (damn that blasted Candida!!!!). I find mixing the two together yields a rather nice flavor too (vanilla for the protein and orange for the greens).

Okay, here are a few links to some info on cumin oil, or more specifically Black Cumin Seed Oil. There are 3 different varieties of the black cumin plant and only one that offers extensive medicinal properties, so you must be careful to ensure that you check the label properly before buying. The black cumin seed that you want is derived from the Nigella Sativa plant. However, when shopping for the oils or seeds you'll discover they go by the names Black Cumin (oil) or Black Seed (oil). These interchangeable names can be a bit confusing at times so I now check for the Nigella Sativa ingredient when in doubt. Ideally, black cumin is cultivated in North Africa, Asia and southeastern Europe, with the most important producers in Egypt, India, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq and Turkey. It is said the most sought after black cumin oil is cultivated in the middle of an Arab desert in Egypt, but I have yet to find a reliable source selling authentic Egyptian cumin oil. Rather than get into all the details of this oil, I'm going to give you a few highlites of what it can offer and provide the links to more indepth info.
Here are a few quotes from some of the articles below.
Quote: |
In 2003, one study noted the antifungal activity of black cumin seed extract against Candida albicans. In the study, mice were injected with Candida albicans, producing colonies of the organism in their liver, spleen, and kidneys. The researchers found that treatment with black cumin seed extract 24 hours after inoculation inhibited growth of the Candida albicans. With continued treatment, the extract significantly decreased the amount of Candida albicans found in the kidneys, liver, and spleen.
Aside from verifying its antibacterial and antifungal properties, researchers in recent years have tested the anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of black cumin seed extract. In 1995, a group of scientists from the Department of Pharmacy at King's College in London found that the extract contains these properties, and is an antioxidant as well. They believe the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant abilities may be linked to ingredients such as thymoquinone and unsaturated fatty acids. Ultimately, the researchers concluded that black cumin seed extract is a justified treatment for rheumatism and related inflammatory diseases. |
Quote: |
Traditionally Black Seed has been used for a variety of ailments including bronchitis, asthma, rheumatism and related inflammatory conditions, increasing milk production in nursing mothers, digestive and eliminative disturbances, parasite infection and supporting immunity. Its oil is used to treat skin conditions such as eczema and boils and is used topically to treat cold symptoms. The classic text Medicines of the Prophet lists as many as fifty illnesses for which Black Seed has effective healing qualities.
Because of its complex chemical structure — it has over one hundred active ingredients — black cumin has positive effects on the respiratory, immune, circulatory, digestive, and urinary systems. It is potentially effective against asthma, stomach ailments, and numerous skin conditions, ranging from acne to psoriasis. Its many uses has earned it the popular title “Seed of Blessing”. |
Quote: |
Black Cumin (Nigella sativa) Seed Oil is 35% more concentrated than the raw seed. It is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, known as essential fatty acids (Linoleic and Linolenic acid), The EFAs, consisting of alpha-Linolenic acid (omega-3) and Linoleic acid (omega-6), are the building blocks of cells and are substances that cannot be manufactured in the body, and thus must be taken in as supplements or through high-EFA foods. |

http://www.answers.com/topic/black-cumin-seed-extract
http://www.kitchendoctor.com/articles/blackcumin.html
This website ( http://www.sweetsunnah.com/ ) is loaded with great reading material (click the Black Seed menu button at the top of the page). However, I am somewhat suspicious of their products. The black seed oils they sell are so inexpensive and really seem too good to be true to me. I called them to verifiy where they sourced their black cumin and was told it's from India. When I asked about their 30-day money-back policy, I was told the bottle had to be sealed to qualify . If nothing else, this site is definitely worth looking at for the general information and research articles.
Here is another site that sells Black Seed oil and is backed by a 30 day satifaction guarantee for sealed or unsealed bottles. http://www.blackseedusa.com/faqs.html
There are a few books devoted to Black Cumin, here are two I found worth noting:
http://www.amazon.com/Black-Cumin-Allergies-Conditions-Disorders/dp/0892818433/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-7587245-5252837?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1174939364&sr=8-1
http://www.amazon.com/Healing-Power-Black-Cumin/dp/0914955535/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/002-7587245-5252837?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1174939364&sr=8-2
On a final note....
-Beware of Turkish or Wild black cumin (Nigella Damascena) - it has little significance as a healing herb.
-Do NOT take this oil or seed if you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant. In some countries they use it as a contraceptive, so it must stimulate the uterine lining in some way.
Phew...I'm off for a cuppa now |

Thanks Scally for the info on the cereal. I actually think, however, that I've seen Fibre 1 in my market, so I'll look for that, but I will be taking your note on what to look for in a fiber cereal with me to the store just in case they don't have F1 in stock.
Ok, now that you've given details on your sleep issues, I'm POSITIVE we were separated at birth! You are describing my exact sleep problems. Those naps where you feel like you've died and are trying to come back from a coma are the WORST! |
You're welcome, my dear. I'd grab the Fiber 1, if I could find it! As an update, guess what? I had major insomnia last night! I think the OoO, in addition to the other benefits, is starting a big detox so others, be careful. I am already taking a lot for detoxing and my biggest problem was getting the stuff OUT. Since that has since been resolved but just a few days ago, I'm going to increase the water even more because I think that there's a lot of die-off going on. The reason I noticed this is that I've had some spots show up on my body in weird places (side of arm, top of leg, etc.) and was certain that was a side effect of detoxing. The strange part is that my back is staying clear and that's where I normally have the biggest issues! There are only 1-2 very small spots on my back right now so it's really improved.

I have a couple of questions for you, scally. What brands of L-Glutamine, Amino Acids and MSM do you use? Where do you get them? Can you describe the flavor of your kombucha tea that you make? Is is OK or is plug-your-nose-and-gulp bad tasting?
Everyone else...
How did you learn about the spit test?
Where are you ordering your OoO from? |
I buy my supplements primarily from Vitacost.com and access it through ebates.com (you get cash rebates for shopping through them and it does work). The brand of L-Glutamine is NSI and I buy the 3 lb. container so it lasts a long time. For the amino acids (called anti-anxiety blend), MSM and OoO, I buy them fromwww.bio-alternatives.com. They have really good prices and the quality has been great. Now, as to my kombucha, it is actually quite delicious! I brew it as noted by the recipe above and let it sit for 8-9 days (taste test with a straw at day 8, usually). Then, I bottle it in snap-top grolsch bottles (brown with attached metal/sealing lid), add a small fruit (raspberry or slice of ginger) and set them on the counter. I never fill the bottles all the way up and if I ever have a lot, I periodically open them to allow the gas to leave and then close them back up. It tastes like sparkling cider, actually, and sitting on the counter with a small piece of fruit further ferments the brew so it is really sparkly. I actually love my kombucha tea. Oh, and I use a mix of black and raspberry teas. Anyone can PM their email address and I will send you a Word document I received from a lovely lady in England that outlines the recipe and all about kombucha. I had all the supplies because I brewed it before so definitely recommend getting bottles, etc. There's a good group on Yahoo called original_kombucha@yahoo.groups and I definitely recommend checking that out. I receive a daily digest of posts, which is normally full of good information.
On another note, I put the OoO on a few of those spots and they are improving. I also put it on my two little toe nails that have always been wonky. I'll let everyone know how the test fares. Also, I am perfecting my OoO intake method. I put the drops in while watching in the mirror - I know, a bit strange, but I know exactly where they are going. Then, I push my tongue down to sort of "hold" everything in place for a minute. It really makes all the difference in the world! You can still taste it (sort of) but only as it was for the aftertaste, as Preenie described. The original "Ahhhck" is gone. Oh, and ANOTHER thing is that my menstrual pain continues to be held at bay AND it's allergy time for me again. While I have sneezed about 5-6 times the last 3 days, I have not had any major sinus headaches as is my normal experience. In fact, this morning, I can feel my sinuses trying to swell up but they are not succeeding. I think the OoO is helping with that. When I get my book, ScotsLass by Charles Ingram, I will see what other ways I can use it. |

I started reading this post late last night. Lots of good info guys. Just got to page 5 and ScotsLass mentioned about oil pulling. Yep, that’s me, I love oil pulling. This has helped me immensely with a pain I have in my hip. I know this works because I stopped for a few days and the pain came back. I also notice my heels are as smooth as a baby’s butt and the bumps on my arms are gone. I guess my insides are supposed to be in good shape also from oil pulling but I don’t know what to look for so not sure. It took about a week to get used to it, now its second nature. Every morning before any coffee/food I take a soup spoon full of safflower oil, cold pressed & unrefined, grab a paper tower and come upstairs and get on the computer and read all the new posts on EDS. The brand I use is Rapunzel from Southern France. Health food stores carry it. The paper towel is for an emergency like maybe having to sneeze or something. I never have had to use it yet, but just in case. After the 20 minutes of swishing I go in and flush the toilet and when the water starts to swirl I spit it out. Then I rinse my mouth with warm salt water and brush my teeth. Some people say that they have whiter teeth since oil swishing but in my opinion that’s from the salt water rinse.
Like I said this post is very informative. I was reading it out of curiosity but the more I read I thought maybe this oregano stuff would help my husband. I make him oregano tea and he says it helps. He has stomach problems and bloating and the Dr’s can’t figure out what he has. The next test for him is having a scope put down his throat. He has had it done before and they gave him too much of the stuff to make it go down and he had a bad reaction to it. Code Blue actually. He has canceled two appointments because they won’t listen to him about the amount. All he wants is the bare minimum.
Just want to thank ALL OF YOU again for the informative posts. |

hey guys, I just wanted to toss out a couple of things -- I've been curious about this thread because I've had my owns issues with yeast in the past --
I know most of you are interested in curing a systemic candida infection naturally, but in case some of you are less patient/in tune with the ol' body, there have been some promising studies using diflucan up to 4 times a month for 6 months. The idea is that some women who are prone to yeast eventually develop resistant strains, and so a series of treatments are necessary. So if your main concern is reoccuring yeast infections, it's something to look into.
Also -- maybe TMI, but if you use lubricants for sex, stay away from anything containing glycerin (astroglide, KY, etc), spermicide, etc. I didn't see this mentioned yet but it's a long thread so I may have missed it. Feel free to pm me if you need suggestions for a lube that won't encourage yeast, I used to work in women's sexual health. Also stay away from shaving -- any kind of irritation encourages yeast overgrowth.
And as a final note, anyone taking oil of oregano should note that this may cause serious upset if you have acid reflux (I think scally mentioned it gave her heartburn in fact). It relaxes the muscle between the esophagus and the stomach, so if you have an eroded esophagus or have GERD issues, just be wary. |
