CMAYC, I took some pics to show you the lines around my mouth are very minimal now. I don't have pics from 7 years ago when the lines were kinda deep (thank God I don't have pics as they were pretty ugly...lol), and I seriously thought I needed some plastic surgery to correct them, or maybe braces. But anyway, just wanted to show you to not give up on those lines, as they can get better and not so noticeable.

Oh yeah, those two dark spots on my cheek are from the TCA cross I did two nights ago. I was pretty aggressive with them this time, so the spots showed up the next morning, so I hope the skin will be all clear after the scabs fall out.

bkkgirl, you are gorgeous!! I remember from an earlier thread how you said you had improved your NL lines and I see you weren't kidding. Your face looks so young and fresh. I can't believe you are in your late 30's. I wish you had an easy answer of how you got great skin but I bet you're right - it's probably a combination of diet, exercise, and good skin care including sunscreen. I wish I could buy all that in a bottle. Smile

To answer the thread question, I noticed minor signs of aging in my late 20's (forehead lines and 11 lines) but it started getting really noticeable after I turned 30. I started getting a dull complexion and uneven texture to my skin which I'd never noticed before as well as more pronounced NL lines.

ETA: Now that I'm 32 I've got even more lines/creases - smile lines by my mouth, creases by my nose from sleeping on my side, and shadows/lines under my eyes from where the hollow ends and the cheek begins. These are all fairly shallow right now thank goodness but I'm aware that they are there.

The aging thing -- please please please don't get all hung up on it. I gasped to read that a 13-year-old complains of fine lines. When I was 13 I didn't know what a fine line was.

I enjoy this forum, but sometimes the obsession with age really concerns me. Good lord, people -- be healthy and happy and take care of yourself, but exorcise the fear and loathing of the ageing process. If I could change anything about America, it'd be the worship of youth and celebrity. (Actually I'd want universal health care, but the "youth and celebrity" thing would be a close second.)

You will age. You will get lines and wrinkles. Gravity is relentless. The point of life is to live it, and this will show on your face and body. Be as beautiful as you can be, inside and out -- but do NOT be as young or flawfree as you can. I am 52, with a 27 year old male roommate and a 33 year old boyfriend. They love me because of my spirit and attitude. They love my eye crinkles and smile lines. They love my irreverance, courage, and wisdom. And so do I.

Ageing, quite frankly, is the best thing that's ever happened to me. So far. Laughing

Whoooops. As a woman with children, two of which are sons, I found that very worrisome. Some of the most beautiful women I know are over the age of forty. There is no beauty like that of a woman with self confidence, no matter the age. I work with women and see body dysmorphic attitudes on a daily basis. We all have our vanities but I for one, don't wish to hand mine over to my children.

WOW bkkgirl! You have such beautiful skin and no smile lines! OK...you got my attention! Forgive my lack of skin education here, but what exactly is pearl cream? I've heard others mention it here. Who makes it, what's in it, what does it do and, more importantly, where can I get it?

BTW, thank you so much for sharing your pictures with all of us. Someone should start a thread where we can all post pics (for those brave enough!) Just a thought........

Oh, and Sidda.....those are words we should all live by!

It's funny how we all see different things when we look at people. (And can never see ourselves as others do. That's just a Life Truth.)

When I look at your photo I see your lovely skin and sensual lips, of course, but the primary thought I have is "Why is she not smiling? Is she unhappy?"

"How young she is!" or "Oh look, she has no lines" would not be in my head at all. Nor would "Oh look, she has lines when she smiles" if you were beaming.

Go for the smile -- (or the frown). The more expressive you are, the more full of connection and life. It is a signal to others that you are engaging.

I think a sky with scattered clouds is much more interesting and full of possibilites than a cloudless blue sky. Cloudless is nice. But not forever.

ps. The Peaberry coffee has (of course) been discontinued. Although there is a (limited edition) Peaberry from Kauai now. It's in a gorgeous bright blue can. I think Volcano or Breakfast Blend are still the best, though.

bkkgirl, it takes a while for the link to break from photobucket.com.

My pictures were still showing up after breaking the link, and I finally had to just cancel the account after several days. I have since opened a new one.

Give it another day or so.

There is hope ladies. In my forties I felt worn down and looked it. My best years were the fifties. Children grown, joined a gym and more time to take care of myself. So I would have to say that I started showing the signs of aging in my forties.

I don't mind expression lines at all (crows feet, forehead lines, neck rings). After all I earned every one of them. Sagging is another issue Bad Grin and therefore I work on that. When I am tired and stressed sagging seems more pronounced. It is during these times I think I look sad (mouth corners down).

As of now I look much younger then my years. However, I know the day will come that I will look old. As long as I have my good health and a young spirit I will be OK with that. After a year of not being able to walk without a brace and a lengthy post op recuperation I would give up a youthful face for my physical well being any day.

Thank you ladies for your responses and support. Very Happy You are all great. I think the transition period is tough for anyone, and I don't judge anyone at all on how they feel, whether they worry about their lines or not, or whether they love all their lines. I think everyone has the right to feel however they feel, and I am most certainly not God to tell anyone whether they were right or wrong. And that is really all I ask from you all, and I think most of you are very accepting and non-judgmental, very lovely ladies. For that, I truly appreciate you guys. Like I said earlier in my post, turing 40 is just gonna be a bit tougher for me than turning 30, but I guess once that line is crossed, then I just have to deal with it. I know I will still face each and every day with a smile. There're reasons for my smile lines after all. Even if I try not to smile, I can't. I've been programmed to smile even to a complete stranger who walks by. There're people at work who won't smile when I smile at them, and I don't know why. hehe

Approaching forty was hard for me also. Like I said in the above post my fifties were a breeze. Go figure?

I really didn't pay much attention to my skin or worry at all about aging till I hit 50. Then cancer, chemo, two nasty rounds of radiation, and whammo! it was like I'd aged ten years overnight. Luckily, my oncologist referred me to a dermatologist (and it was covered by insurance because my oncologist said it was a side effect of the cancer treatment--yay!!). My dermatologist was terrific--she is extremely knowledgeable about skincare and open-minded about new cosmetic treatments that haven't yet stood the test of time. She encouraged me to try Retin A (too irritating, boo!) and then retinaldehyde instead (it worked, hurray!), emphasized the importance of sunscreen with UVA protection(especially for someone who has already had a bout with cancer, no thanks on another preventable type!!) and strongly recommended Vitamin C serum for collagen building and hyperpigmentationb. After my other medical treatment was done, I went to her for a few more sessions, discussing stability issues with Vitamin C, the pros and cons of Matrixyl, DMAE, and copper peptides, etc. Now, unfortunately, she's leaving town to retire to Montana. I'm gonna really miss her.

So...for me it took a huge kick in the pants in the form of chemotherapy and radiation to get my attention!
