Just spent the time to use Lauren Hutton Face Disc.
Watched Lauren's video. She is really beautiful. Very natural mature woman. Could actually see her crows feets. She herself started with a clean face and made herself up with the disc.
After hubby went to bed I went to work. Lauren said it takes 10 minutes to make yourself up. It took me approximately 20 minutes. Started with lip balm 2. spot concealer 3. light concealer (reflects light from facial shadows) 4. contouring shadow 5. blush 6. brows 7. Pooch & nose (retracts fat deposits eye area) and straightens and shortens nose if needed) 8. eyeliner 9. lips.
I did all of the above sitting in a lounge chair with a magnetic mirror as I had to take off my glasses to apply.
After I did all the steps I really thought this is rediculous. Looked in the bathroom mirror with glasses on. I looked BEAUTIFUL. I looked like I did not have any makeup on. I felt really pretty and looked at least five years younger. I just used the disc that has everything in it. I did not use a foundation.
You can use a foundation first or use a powder after completion.
Lauren Huttons products are recommended for woman over 40. If I were 20 again I would use it. It just makes you look pretty without a madeup look.
Thank you Trish. Best Makeup recommendation. I did not get the brushes yet. I have so many brushes and used to using them so I was just fine.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND! The video alone is worth the money. I never knew how to contour my facial features. |

Olivia, thanks for the clarification. I already ordered from HSN, damn. Oh well, it's "supposed" to be here by 4/30 so we'll see. Ah, read back on the thread about the VHS/DVD problems but I'm not too worried about that. I watched a download of the video and understand the concepts already. I will be re-watching for clarification but I do have a video player, even so. |
You are so great about posting before and after pictures. Please, if you have time can you do this with Lauren Hutton's Face Disk . I think the results are outstanding. I am not quite brave enough .... besides my digital broke. Hope you like it scala. |
You got it, girl! I'll document the process and maybe a little video once I get the hang of it! It's due to arrive next week. |

Thanks in advance. |
I think using brushes would be best. Maybe not so important for the lip balm (she actually recommends fingers here) and possibly sheer concealer, but most everything else would be better with a brush. JMO |

Agreed and I also wanted to add that it's the same with any makeup - better and more precise application with brushes so I'd recommend using them. You don't have to use her's, if you've already got ones you like. |

I am so happy that you like the Disk . Can't wait until you do your presentation. Sorry...I am not pressuring you.
There are few products I use for years. The Face Disk is going on three years for me. LOVE IT!!!!! |
It's a cool device and I am not feeling pressured! Here's a before/after and also - the new "Scalawaggirl's Having Fun with Makeup" video, which is split into three parts in order to upload to Photobucket. Here's the first and I'll post the other two as they upload. You will have to copy and paste the link because it's not working for some reason from a direct click:

Dokusan, I do my own manicures/pedicures and I use Trind and Barielle products - both highly recommended. What I was wearing is a base coat of Barielle Natural Camoflauge, then 2 coats of OPI You Rock-Apulco Red, then Trind's Top Coat. Prior to the actual coatings, though, I used Trind's Nail Balsam and after I was done, I put on the Cuticle Balsam to keep them looking fresh and not dry. HTH!
Lonevoice, sounds like you and I have exactly the same opinions of the LH products! It's good to know that you've experienced the same things as I did. Thanks re: the video, too!
Catski, there's a bug I believe in EDS so when you click on the link, it removes part of the code. If you copy the whole thing, then paste it in your address bar, it will take you to the photobucket site and start playing the video - it is in three parts due to size.

lunarmm, I saw most of the 'hsn' clips. I was really looking for the video, where she teaches the shading tricks. I need all the help I can get!!!!!
Winnie, I think your right about the 'yellow', and I will take that advice. Can you please tell me if the shading bit is easy to learn. I'm really all thumbs when it comes to applying makeup, and my hands shake to boot..
Thank you both for the help.

Kassy,
I never wore much makeup. When I got the kit I applied it while watching the video. Believe me it is very easy.
Here is a good overview:

Kassy - I think the face disc is the best all-around makeup you could choose. I've had mine for five years with many replacements - mostly for the shading elements. And I thought I'd never use them!!!! The video is very explanatory about placement and use of the product.
I agree with everyone here that the yellow is the way to go for you - based on your pics. And As someone said there is only the difference of one item (what was it???? - the undereye color maybe?).
I've bought the three disc set also for my purse - this has undereye cream, contouring cream and the blush. Very nice - I love mine.
Good luck. I think you'll like it.

Kassy, I can email the video to you if you PM me. I know you ordered the disc but you might want to watch the video before getting it. No pressure though - just an offer.
And I'll try to explain one more time, not just for you but for other people who might have difficulty as well. I tried it again after you had difficulty and it still works:
Go to http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0X3U2GXQ
Near the top of the page by the big capitalized MEGALOAD and arrow there is a blank white entry area. Type the code that is there. It says "Type code _________ here: ______ (white entry box) alongside this to the right is the yellow download button.
After typing the code into the blank white area - then click on the yellow download marker to the right of it.
Clicking on this after placing the code in the white "box" should take you to another page.
If it doesn't try it again. You're probably on the same page but the code has changed. So enter the new code.
It should take you to a page with a chart. The right column stating Free at the top. It lists the waiting time of 45 seconds. When you click on the grey FREE DOWNLOAD button, it starts counting down the seconds. Then you can open (and play) or save to disk. |

For those who are interested in Lauren's face disc she will be on HSN tomorrow, April 1st, at 11 AM and 6 PM EST and I bet she'll be showing it at some point during the shows. I recently bought the face disc myself and have played around with it a couple times. I loved the sheer concealer around the nose and on the nasolabial lines; I was surprised and how much younger and fresher this alone made my face look. I look forward to practicing with it some more using the contouring techniques. Lauren's DVD is very helpful.
By the way, I know the disc was developed by Lauren when she started modeling again at age 46 but I also find it to be a really nice tool for myself at age 32. |

I got the Face Disk yesterday and could hardly wait to try it out. I've only used it twice now, so these are very preliminary observations.
Yesterday I decided to use nothing but the Face disk. I watched the video once and then plunged in. Although it seems like a lot of steps and a lot of products, it's actually surprisingly simple as a system, as long as you follow the rainbow sequence of color codes on the product pans. I already had plenty of appropriate brushes, so I didn't bother to get the brushes.
The two step concealers are terrific--the right compromise between coverage and sheerness. I overdid a bit on the undereye concealer, but had not trouble tissuing off the excess. I had never contoured before and I'm pretty palefaced, so I was most nervous about using the contour shade pot, but it's very sheer and doesn't look weird or dirty on the skin. The next step is to apply the "pooch and nose" powder along the sides and under the tip of the nose and along the inner eye by the nose. This was the one product that I was unsure of--I think the nose tip trick worked well, but I can't say that I'm convinced about the "pooch" thing. It's hard to shade that area without undoing the concealer on the dark inner eye area. Maybe it's just me, though. The powder blush is very subtle and pretty, just a light pinkish flush. Then I used the brow powder, which is a medium taupe color. As I noted, I have pale slightly yellow-toned skin, but my brows are reasonably prominent with jet black hairs. The taupe is designed to fill in sparse areas of the brows without looking like they're filled in with makeup. For me, the effect was a little too subtle, so I added a little of the darker eyeliner, and it was perfect. Not noticeably made up, just better than au natural. I applied the eyeliner wet by drawing a line across the outer two thirds of the eye as she suggests. It's not very dark, so the look is pretty forgiving of technique. Last of all, she suggests patting on some of the blush over the lip balm. It's pretty for a few seconds, but it didn't last at all.
Overall, the effect is very natural but polished. It was hard to believe that I could get such a good result with no foundation, no eyeshadow, and a much lighter concealer than I usually wear. Excellent results, and it only took about 10 minutes total!
This morning I decided to combine the Face Disk with some additional makeup for a more flawless look. I started with a light application of Chanel Vitalumiere foundation, which I applied with a skunk brush just to even out my skintone a bit. (When I say light, I mean really light--probably a drop or two at the most.) Then it was back to work with the Face Disk. I skipped the "pooch" area entirely, but other than that I tried to use the Disk as directed. Before I put on the eyeliner, I brushed some neutral eyeshadow (Nars All About Eve)over my lids and then tightlined with the wet liner. Then for a finishing touch, I lightly brushed a bit of Nars Albatross highlighter over my browbones and along my cheekbones. (I know Lauren disapproves of shimmer, but these are really subtle.) A quick swipe of lipstick--Julie Hewett Jules today--and I was done. Again, just about 10 minutes and it looked fabulous. I can't say enough about what a simple but effective system this is, especially for someone like me that really doesn't know much about makeup application. The video walks you through the process and the makeup is sufficiently sheer to be forgiving of less-than-perfect technique. It truly is Great Stuff. |

Three more experiments to report on: I tried to mix the Face Disk with mineral makeup, with mixed results. The first time, I applied my mineral makeup, buffed it in, and then tried the spot concealers and sheer concealer over it. That's a no-go--the concealers don't adhere well except to bare face. (In retrospect this seems pretty obvious, but what I was hoping was that putting on the MMU first would decrease the number of areas needing concealer.) Take two: this time I started with the concealers, then went to the MMU. Much better. I skipped the step of "setting" the concealer with powder since I was going to be buffing my minerals over the concealed spots, and there was no problem. After MMU, I went with the shading and contouring and blush. Very nice. So, if you use a liquid or cream foundation, it's foundation, then Face Disk; if you use a powder foundation, it's concealers first, then powder foundation, then the rest of the Face Disk.
Third experiment: Getting a "full face" for a formal eveningwear occasion. This time I started with my "special night out" makeup--Laura Mercier's cream makeup. Over that was the Face Disk sequence--concealers, shading and contours. Over that went Julie Hewett's Cheekie in Jami instead of the subtler Face Disk blush. For eyes, I tightlined with Laura Mercier dark brown cake liner instead of the Face Disk eyeliner--the LM is a tad more dramatic, though still not at all harsh. Mascara and primer were added. Shadow was Nars Abyssinia (a lovely, slightly pearly pale peach pink) with Ashes to Ashes (a medium shimmery grey-taupe) in the crease and Nars Albatross as highlighter (browbones, cheekbones, lightly down center of nose.) Lips were lined in Julie Hewett no. 7 liner with Film Noir as the lipstick. The whole effect is as glam as I would ever get--and definitely a night-time look, but with a long slinky black evening dress, the "I'm at the office face" is not what I'm after.
Bottom line: The Face Disk is all it's cracked up to be and then some. It plays well with other makeup, too. Its real genius is that its products are sufficiently sheer and forgiving to work on a variety of skintones and types. Also, for those like me that aren't makeup experts, you don't need to have perfect technique or placement for good results. |
