I love hearing how a certain book or books changed or touched peoples lives. Do you have any health, beauty, spiritual or self-help bookd that have really made a difference and helped you to improve you appearance, life, relationships, way you see people and the world, etc...?

Right now I am reading Happy For No Reason by Marci Shimoff. It's a self-help book on ways to add happiness and energy to your life. I'm only half way through reading it, but every time I read a chapter, or even a few pages, I do feel happier and more grateful. I am learning a lot from this book.

So, which is your favorite book or books that have changed you?

Byron Katie: Loving What Is

Life Changing! Her concept is that many of our emotions are based about things we THINK are true. When you have a problem.. or are mad at someone.. you ask yourself "do you know if that is true". There are a series of follow up questions to do... but in the end what frustrates you in others is what must frustrates you about yourself.

For example, You may feel mad because you perceive that your partner abandoned you. No, you most likely abandoned yourself.

Sorry if I sound a bit cliche but:

'You can heal your life' by Louise Hay.

Whenever anyone has a physical problem I always consult the You can heal your life dictionary. My family think it is silly; that you can't pinpoint physical ailments to precise mental thoughts but I do think there is something in it Wink

My all time favourite -
The Magic of Thinking Big by David J. Schwartz.

I've read this book every year since I bought it back in 2005. It was recommended to me by some great friends. It expanded my thinking in what I thought is impossible. To reach MY best no one else. One of many great passages in it states -
"Success is determined not so much by the size of one's brain as it is by the size of one's thinking"

Since then I have completed two 14km runs and doing my 3rd next Sunday for the Royal Children's Hospital, I've gone part time in my profession as a nurse and built an online business, I've done bungee jumping twice (overcoming one fear), met the man of my dreams and we're moving to Hungary.

My girlfriends and I are big believers of self help books and we're all successful in our own right. A couple of other books:
21 Ways to Finding Peace & Happiness by Joyce Meyer
Today Matters by John C. Maxwell
The Choice by Nicole Cary
The Fred Factor by Mark Sanborn

I have many other books which I have benefit immensely from. There's so much wealth of knowledge out them. People should embrace it.

Happy reading everyone Smile

You Can Heal Your Life - The first book that showed me that you have the power to change the world around you.

Why Does He Do That? - A book about emotional/physical abuse. It opened my eyes to what was really happening in my relationship. Many people, myself included consider this to be a very powerful and important book.

Radical Rejuvenation - This was published in 1996 and introduced me to the idea of reversing ageing through raw foods and supplements. I embraced a raw food lifestyle for two years and saw tremendous benefits both in looks and vitality, so much so that my brother and sister followed. Sadly I stopped in the end when I lost way too much weight. At my lowest was 7st 7lbs. I know it all balances out after a while and you put "healthy" weight back on, but I really wasn't ready to go through this stage. This book was very ahead of it's time. I still treasure my copy.

Yes, my eyes went very blue and clear while raw. Some say that it's because of the cleansing effect of a raw food diet.

Your daughter's eyes, may very well be down to her diet, which sounds very healthy. If she is interested in going raw, she can transition, so perhaps start 50% and see how she goes from there. You certainly don't have to be 100% raw to have amazing benefits. My diet then would probably have been described as high-raw - about 90% raw as I still had eggs and steamed fish, and ate Lara bars as treats. And even rarely, say once every few months have some fries.

My diet is very different now, I still have green smoothies most days, and salads but there is a lot of cooked carbs and sugar..And my face shows it. I think this may have something to do with my face ageing so suddenly. Plus being a mother to a toddler, so broken sleep and early mornings don't help..

I agree with others who chose "Ask and It is Given"- I think that's the all around best Abraham-Hicks book
to add to that I would say these changed my life:
'The Power' by Rhonda Byrne (not The Secret!- I found this way better- all about the power of gratitude and love)
"Excuse Me Your Life is Waiting"- Lynn Grabhorn (classic!)
'Eat Pray Love' inspired me to change my whole life!
"Three Magic Words" - U.S. Anderson- the original of all the 'energy' books- and the one that inspired all The Secret meditations!

all highly recommended! Very Happy

Hi KrazyKanuck,
No, I don't mind at all. It's a bit complex so I have sent you a private message.

Thanks for your book recommendations as well. I totally agree with you on Aucoin's book Face Foward, the original and best in my opinion. And will look at Final Gifts having lost my mother to cancer seven years ago, we were all there with her at the end. I am so sorry for the loss of your sister.

I agree, it's a great thread - thanks Sandooch.

Uh oh, I just checked and I didn't get a message from you so I don't know where your message went. Confused

If it ever shows up I will be sure to let you know.

Yeah, Kevyn Aucoin's book is excellent (IMO), and it's one of my favorite makeup books for sure.

I am sorry to hear you lost your mother to cancer, it certainly is not a fun thing to watch someone go through. As hard as it is to watch someone go through, though, I can only imagine how much harder it must be to be the one who is actually going through it (ugh, just the thought of that alone is hard to comprehend). My family was with my sister until the very end, too, and that is one thing I will always be thankful for. On the other hand, I am also very sure my sister was thankful to have her family by her side when she took her last breath as well. I have no doubt your mother likely felt the very same way.

KrazyKanuck, so sorry for the recent loss of your sister. My sister and I have been talking recently about our aging parents and how we are going to cope when they pass away. I know that no amount of preparation can take away all the heartache when we lose a loved one, but I do find comfort in self help books, like the one you mentioned, to help ease the pain. I will definitely put that one on my Amazon wish list.

Miel24, I am also sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. I pray they find a cure to cancer in the very near future. I've lost too many people to this awful disease and have a cousin battling with a third round of it right now.
