Hi, I bought my microfiber cloth on eBay. I did try to find the seller but was unable to pinpoint him. However, you should be able to do a quick search here to find a link.
I use this in the morning w/out any soap to clean my face since I do not have to remove any makeup. |

my sushi secret I am beginning to think that at least part of my clogged pores problem has to do with my skin being dehydrated (mostly due to environment and somewhat due to products). How exactly does this cause clogged pores though? You say over drying your skin before you can get rid of all the dirt, please elaborate. I am not doubting you if anything I agree with you but I am not sure exactly how one causes the other. TIA |
Hi Theresa,
I just noticed this, but I know you've gotten a lot of info since then! When I was using MB products, I was using an enzyme face wash, glycolic toner, buffering lotion and occasionaly a mask and a scrub. I think it was just too much stuff that all contained alcohol and acids and it was just stripping my skin. It's hard to explain since it's never happened before, but my skin just looked dirty even though I wasn't breaking out.
I stopped using that and went on Obagi which got rid of the dirt but didn't help the break outs.
Now I use "clean" products and my skin is finally starting to normalize.
I do use Retin-A but I use CP serum to balance it out.
I definitely recommend jojoba oil as a moisturizer that doesn't overdo it for warmer weather. I use undiluted emu oil at night after the Retin-A, but will probably use it during the day in the winter. HTH |

Mark, I am still working on this...it is a work in progress. I'm back on my spot treatment routine, though, which involves applying Super Cop 2x each night to scars/moles. Occasionally, I will do a TCA Cross to AGGRESSIVELY work on exfoliation of these areas but so far, I have only done one. Strong acids such as this will cause you to have a "scab-like" reaction that eventually falls off. As normal, I use Vivant Mandelic Acid, 2% Diana Yvonne BHA and weekly peels to also assist with exfoliation (oh, as well as Epidermix II, PSF Pumpkin Enzyme Peel, microfiber cloths and the Clarisonic brush).
After my last TCA Cross, I saw improvement in a couple of deep scars (one from chicken pox and other from acne - more like an ice pick scar). I intend to post updated pics once I get some noticable results that will be viewable in photos. |

I used MaMa lotion for 2 weeks, alternate days for the 1st week and everyday for 2nd week. Did not sting and just some dryness around the nose. My skin texture looked more refined and fairer, however, I still have gunks in the pores around the nose when I extract it (I know I shouldn't ... but I can't help it!!). I didn't like the film thingy that it leaves behind and it balls up when I apply moisturizer (even after 30mins wait).
I bought the 15% Mandelic Acid sample from Skincare Central and had used it 4 times so far (on alternate nights). I stopped for the last 2 days as my skin was drying out even though I applied SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 & Olay Regenerist Continuous Night Recovery Moisturiser after 30mins. I hope the Ultra Emu Oil that is due to arrive soon would help. While my skin is drier now, I have to say that I like the effects of Skincare Central's Mandelic Acid way more than MaMa Lotion. I can see that my skin has a nicer clarity, more refined and I even have slightly rosy cheeks that I never had before (although probably from dryness). There is also less gunks in my pores (may be because it's drier now or MaMa lotion had purged most of it out already?). In addition, the Mandelic Acid doesn't leave a film or balls up when I apply moisturizer. If emu oil helps with dryness, I think this is a keeper! (not sure about Vivant Mandelic since I have not tried that). |

Scally: What is a TCA "Cross"? I've been using glycolic mixes for about 2 years and am happy with this but still have one line that I might try something stronger with. Also lots of scars. I've been hesitant to use TCA but it sounds like you've done well.

Goofy, emu oil will definitely help w/dryness but, of course, it all depends on your skin's reaction. I use LB Processor's ultra and clear emu oils that I buy through Diana Yvonne (same price for an ounce) and I don't use much (normally 2 drops w/1 drop HA).
I'm thinking of trying a sample of GOW's mandelic that was specially formulated for this company because it's $10 cheaper:

Hope that helps. |

Sharky, TCA Cross refers to a scar treatment method that is done as a spot treatment w/a very strong acid to rebuild the skin by inducing collagen production. I am using this in conjunction with Super Cop 2x (I apply this almost every night and have only done the Cross once). I will probably do it again a week or so.
Basically, it involves soaking a cotton-tipped toothpick in an acid (I use Platinum Skincare's TCA 20% and their toothpick applicators) for a bit and then placing very carefully inside the scar (tough to do all of the time; I missed a little but no biggie to me). The treated spots will frost - you want this to happen; it will go back to normal skin color after awhile - and then you can either let it be, apply a spritz of PSF O2 like some recommend (I do this after peels or when irritated), or CPs/emu. Do not apply any other actives of any kind the same day you do the spot treatment.
Some prefer to allow the scabbing to appear or begin (wait a day or so) before applying CPs but I applied my diluted CP serum to assist w/healing that night along w/emu/HA. I'm not in that big of a hurry to address the scars though I am sort of impatient. I suppose I am trying to be careful and aggressive at the same time. Make sense?
As the treatment progressed, my skin had brownish scabs, though light, that eventually fell off. It didn't look terrible but mineral makeup did not completely cover the spots so I would recommend doing this on a Wednesday or Thursday to give your skin some time to heal without having to face anyone.
Any questions, let me know! |

With your method how long does it take for the scabs to fall off? I have lots of surgical scars and if this is working for you I'd like to
try it. You said you saw visible improvement after the first application healed!?
THANKS. |

It took about 4-5 days for the scabs to fall off completely (some fell off prior to others) and yes, I did see a noticeable improvement after the first treatment. |

I just tried my sample of 10% mandelic from Skincarecentral.biz.
The bad news: confirms that I really shouldn't use AHA's on my skin as I turn red really fast. It's happened with every AHA I've tried in the past couple of weeks.
The good news: I just LOVE the water-like consistency of this formula!! You can put it on like a toner. No extra additives, no film to interfere with other actives put on top. The other great thing is that my skin (although still pink) was glowing and the texture so smooth and nice this morning. I put a bit of concealer on the red spots and some finishing powder and my skin looks outstanding this morning. Dang! I wish I could find a way to use this more often, without making my red-skin issue worse.... |

Update: I ordered the 15% Mandelic from SkinCare Central and am very pleased. It does not disagree w/my skin at all and is far less irritating than the Vivant though I will continue to use it up! Better yet, it's $10 cheaper! Anyway, sorry you can't use AHAs Poco. I would cry, if I couldn't continue my mandelic. It has been so good for me.
As a further update to the scar/mole scenario, I have included a few pics showing a before (taken 3 weeks ago nearabouts) and after taken today. This is of a large mole (for me) that I decided to use a guinea mole pig for the TCA Cross method along w/Super Cop 2x. I am also still attacking my orange peel/ice pick scars on my cheeks but am going through remodeling (pretty sure) and they appear a bit larger. However, I am not freaking because I've read this is normal as the new skin pushes upward. I saw a tip from another forum friend about using a toothbrush to lightly work the BHA in to the skin so I will be starting that tonight to move things along (very excited about this). Anyway, here are the pics:
I have been working on with TCA 20% applied 3x and Super Cop 2x applied each night for about 1 week or so (no schedule initially, I have since become more aggressive):
Before:
After (taken today):
FYI, I know the color of the photos is a little different but just want you to know that the mole was clearly visible and much darker than my skin. Now, it is barely even noticable to the touch (was raised) and is the color of my skin. I don't know about you guys but I'm really happy with these results and will continue my method to eradicate these buggers! Whee! |

Those pictures are wonderful! Congratulations. I can imagine how happy you are.
What jumped out for me was your mention of ice pick scars. Those have haunted me for years. They are the reason I use to tan so much in my younger years (they show less w/a dark tan) and have to work on sun damage!! Could you please summarize for me how you're dealing with them? I scanned previous posts but can't locate it. Thank you |

Sure thing, Marina. Here's the scoop:
I am using a combined effort to deal with the scars and that includes nightly use of CP serum diluted to 6 drops CP/2 drops water. I have been working up to this by 1 drop every two weeks. After this period is done, I will go to a 7/1 ratio. So, after my normal routine's final step - emu oil/HA application - I apply Super Cop 2x to any moles, scars that I'm looking to repair. Currently, that is for:
-both cheeks though one is more scarred
-a chicken pox scar on my forehead
-the mole pictured
-a scattering of red moles here and there (my new project after seeing the success of this mole)
I apply the TCA Cross 20% in the AM and do so normally after I wash with my microfiber cloth. This is due to the need to rinse off the acid to neutralize it. Then, I just go on with the remainder of my routine. As far as the timing, I usually apply the acid 1-2x a week and allowing the scab process to complete without additional applications of the acid. In other words, apply acid, allow to scab, let fall off and start over in a day or so. I apply the Super Cop 2x each night regardless of the stage of the scab. Make sense?
My new step to add is to gently work the BHA that I use AM/PM into my skin with a soft toothbrush. I'm going to do this to help boost the process along. A friend on another forum did this and it smoothed out her orange peel scars/texture. I have also read that this type of gentle "aggravation" helps work scars/moles so I have positive hopes. Here is my current routine (prepare yourself):
AM
· Cleanse with water and microfiber cloth, rinse
· Spot treat scars w/TCA 20% applied w/cottoned toothpick then rinse after 1-2 minutes and frosted (only doing this occasionally, as needed)
· BHA 2% all over then 5% on problem areas (nose/forehead) - rub this in gently with a soft toothbrush to scarred and blackhead-prone problem areas
· Mandelic acid all over (about 10 drops) - WAIT 30 minutes
· PSF Browtox on forehead and in between brows
· PSF DMAE Toner on face/neck then pat in
· PSF Cranberry Phyto-Lift eye gel followed up by PSF Stimucol-C under eyes
· ISC Super serum (face, neck, chest and hands)
· Emu oil/HA all over & neck
· SPF 30 Shiseido, if sunny and going to be out a lot - I rely on antioxidants (Super serum), if not, which is most of the time
PM (for 2 weeks - until 10/8; change to 7 drops CP/1 drop water)
· Cleanse w/Devita aloe cleanser (use Clarisonic brush - manual exfoliation)
· BHA 5% all over - rub this in gently with a soft toothbrush to scarred and blackhead-prone problem areas
· Exfol serum around eyes, lips; LacSal lotion on neck, décolletage and hands - WAIT 30 minutes
· CP Serum (6 drops CP/2 drops water) to face, Night Eyes Premier around eyes
· TriReduction on neck/BND on décolletage
· Emu oil w/HA lightly applied all over
· Spot treat scars w/SuperCop 2x
· Katee's Eye potion or Cellcosmet eye cream
Every 1-2 weeks, 35% DY fruit acid peel with PSF Oxygen toner to help with irritation sprayed 2x/day after peel
Hope that helps. |

I think I was editing the post when you posted! Put my whole routine in to help clarify things.
I bought the 20% TCA from Platinum Skincare as well as the cotton-tipped applicators. Here:

I only bought the 1/2 oz. and applicators since I already have CPs, etc. |

Thanks-I'm printing this out. One last thing, CP is applied to the scars only-am I right? Or is it allover.. I have a sample of CP that I've been scared to try, but I'm willing to try it if I can apply it only on the ice-pick scars. Thanks again |

Marina, I apply the diluted CP serum to my whole face. The Super Cop 2x is what I apply to my targeted scar/moles. I was able to get a sample size from Skin Biology for either free or seriously discounted and I only use a small amount.
The key here is that I apply this AFTER my emu/HA because that slows down the absorption. The diluted CPs are applied prior and emu/HA helps push them further into the skin. I can still occasionally feel a tingle from the SC2x so beware that it is the strongest CP Skin Bio makes and therefore, you need to approach w/caution. In other words, go slowly and keep an eye out for reactions.
The application order of products and notes in the regime outline should help clarify how/where to apply and wait times.
Any questions, just ask. |

That's amazing. It took me much longer with Super Cop alone.
I still LOVE the mandelic acid. My pothole pore is barely visible and I'm using it on a strange raised pore under my eye which has been around for years. It's not gone yet but is reduced. Thanks scalawaggirl. Nothing has worked on these pores before. |

Awesome, Sharky. I'm really tweaked about the results and do believe it's the 1-2 punch of SC2x AND TCA 20% Cross that's shown such remarkable progress. I think it pushes the process along considerably than either used alone.
As for the mandelic acid, I am so happy that you are finding positive results! I love this stuff and have been testing out Kathleen's version from SkinCare Central with great progress. |

Just wanted to join in with the Pore Fest.
My whole face routine has gone to the dogs because of work and fatigue, but I've been focusing on a lone pore, which has been clogged and showing on my nose for a couple of years now. If I use AHA's frequently enough it cuts it back a bit but it returns after a few days. The past week I've been using the Mandelic once or twice a day and salicylic a bit less and the difference is dramatic. Another week or so and I might have seen the end of it.
Also the slightly enlarged pores on the side of my face next to my eyes I've spot treated there with the Mandelic more often than the entire face and I'm pleased to announce I have a few blackheads . You might not like the sound of that but seems to me that before the pores were open and now they are closed I can achieve blackheads. Anyway, easily dealt with with a bit of salicylic when I get around to it. The pores look much tighter there and the skin as a result looks firmer and smoother. |

Molly, are you using the Vivant one of the skincare central one. Not sure which one to order. I tried the vivant one (sample) a while back & the alsohol content didn't seem to bother me-actually it supposedly helps absorption. But, others have mentionned the 'cleaner' one from skincarecentral, so now I'm not sure |

|
|
Mon Sep 25, 2006 5:25 pm |
Marina, I love the Vivant but find that it can be a bit strong for everyday use - but that's for me because I have blackheads (lots) and so must use 5% BHA to keep them under control. With Vivant, I have to use 2% BHA and though it's not a deal breaker, I'd rather use 5% both AM/PM.
I'm still working on completing eradicating the blackheads and am hoping the soft toothbrush will help.
Both products have the "right" kind of alcohol and are clean. I just find the Vivant a bit stronger exfoliation, is all. BTW, the SkinCare Central version of GOW's Mandelic is a special formulation that cleaned up (left out) the nasties in the original formula. That is why I opted to try it and because it's $10 cheaper, too.
Hope that helps. |

Hi Marina
I'm using the Vivant. Some people seem to find it drying, but I notice some of them are using it alongside a whole bunch of other exfoliants (plus some of them are under 25 - ouch!).
I did have a problem with drying and a little bit of peeling the first week I used it, but now I wait half an hour and *then* apply my emu I'm fine. I think I was making it penetrate even more strongly by topping with emu too soon. Mind you I'm not using it every night, maybe every two or three and I only use a fairly light AHA peel once a week or so (either the PSF pumpkin or the DY Lactic 10%)
I'm afraid I can't compare the two, but do find the Vivant so effective and as a Mediterranean type you've probably got more robust skin than me. I just love the way it evens out your skintone overnight and you wake up peachy looking not bleached.
You can try a half ounce from http://www.betterhealthyskin.com/ (no dropper though, a bit mean) in case you don't like it.
Pocoloco is trying the skincarecentral one because she has very sensitive skin and can't use the Vivant and Scalawag has just switched so her success to-date must be with the Vivant. Sharky's using the Vivant too.
HTH Molly |
