i agree. they were in the middle of a large project and actually are a very small company. just email them again. they are *very* helpful!
sark -- i'm with you on the cleansers. i have to try the Milk just because, but in a polluted city i want something more. i think the ocean cleanser should fit the bill. that said, when you're using any cleanser at night, i firmly believe in using an oil or balm as your first step to get rid of impurities and sunscreen. it has really helped my face a lot! (i use Eve Lom every night with a muslin cloth).
MermaidGirl -- i'm not sure if this line will rid you of cysts or prevent them. (possibly it will, i just haven't used them long enough and will not make false claims. trust me, i'm the poster child for cystic acne. god forbid a normal common-place pimple sprout on my face....) what the products do *do* is make your skin look the best it possibly can given its current state. and the APC cream seems to act as a protective layer, keeping your skincare in and sunscreens and pollutants out (which also helps pores from inhaling all the gunk and clogging up).

I am not in obsessive love with Atmosphere as I am with most of their other products... It reminds me a little of Amy's Chysalyx cream, there are some similar ingredients in there, but the Atmosphere is in a base of algae gel rather than botanical oil, so it is a little less oily upon application. All of my past boyfriends have been HOOKED on this cream; I do in fact prefer something heavier. I like to dilute the advanced with a little oil and some HA, or more recently, with some oat beta glucans, to make it a lovely day moisturizer. I just like having less products around, and this works to simplify things for me--i get to use up all my little past indulgences (oils) while using my fave moisturizer.
and to sark: the corrective and hydrating oils are in a roller ball dispenser.

The chrysalyx and the atmosphere protection cream are actually quite similar in their concept, i.e. protection from the elements--but chrysalyx seems to be more like a cocktail of all sorts of things--dmae, ceramides, etc. I thought the textures and lightness of these moisturizers were similar, but perhaps osea's is better for oilier skins, since it doesn't have too many botanical butters in it:

just mixing it straight in my hand, emulsifying with my finger. i never premix anything. i just intuit what my skin might need at any moment! sometimes i mix nothing in it at all.

| la vie - question about the apc - i noticed it has squalene in it, and i've heard this can cause breakouts for people who are acne prone. have you had any problems? you use chrysalyx too, right? how would you compare it to apc? do you think they're both good for day and night (i.e. if i already own and like chrysalyx, do i really need apc?) . . . |

sark, I know you asked la vie, but I am acne prone and have never had an issue with squalane. However, I have read that red algae is very comedogenic and irritating, which I find very surprising. I'm not too worried though, because I'd rather hear testimonials about the product as a whole rather than fuss about the ingredients, because I think skin tolerates ingredients very differently in different blends.

i do *not* use the chrysalyx. it is an absolutely lovely product and i wish like hell i could use it but i can't. shea butter (which wasn't even on waffle's list) breaks me out like mad and it gets worse every time i try. i thought if i could handle any shea product it would be chrysalyx but, alas, i can't.
APC is *very* different, IMO, from chrysalyx because it forms a more protective layer (chrysalyx is more akin to the atmosperic cream which also has shea so i won't be trying it). do you need this if you love chrysalyx? no, not if your you're happy with what chrysalyx's doing for you. if it ain't broke.... i know you're already trying so many new things and should probably hold off adding more, especially if you're nervous about the squalene.
once i get the APC, i'll be using it as my day cream. i like that it will keep my serums and oils in while protecting my face from sunscreen and pollutants. i doubt, however, that i'll use it at night (unless my skin is really parched). i like to use actives at night and prefer *not* to use moisturisers over them. i like my skin to breathe at night.
squalene made from olives does not seem to break me out, at least in any of the formulations i've used (i've never used it neat). the one made from sharks, however, does. as for the algae, some people have trouble with it; in fact, some people breakout just from *eating* seaweed. waffle's right, everybody is different. i had used the SKB and my skin absolutely adored it so i was pretty sure i wouldn't have a problem with this. not only did i *not* have a problem, but my skin seems to like it even more! and no flakies -- who could ask for more? |

i haven't used a traditional toner for a long, long time. i wash my face at night with Eve Lom cleanser and a muslin cloth and know i'm getting rid of everything. i just never found one that did much more than clean my face and, since it already is, why bother? (i do do a spritz of Avene Thermal Water after cleansing, but i don't think that's really what you're asking.) |

The cleansing milk is formulated for sensitive/rosacea skins, so I think that it would be your best bet. I think that the redness/mud connection is dramatized by the fact that the stuff does sting when you put it on, and you EXPECT your skin to be all red, but it is not. As far as reducing redness? Don't have a clue, since I'm hardly ever reddening lately and la vie has my mud--better ask her!
On second thought, the mud is an excellent exfoliating/purifying cleanser for those who have skin prone to redness, since most products along those lines will indeed turn you beet red.
re: algae and acne, I've never heard that before! I think a lot of EDS members will be trying this line soon, and since it is heavy on the red algae gel, we shall soon see if it does not agree with certain skin types. I've personally never heard of adverse reactions to it. I hawked the stuff at Fred Segal for several years, then became a buyer of a skincare store in santa cruz for several years and sold it there, and have recommended it to most of my friends, and every single one of my ex-roommates use it (one exception: my best friend didn;t like it b/c it did not clear up her acne, but accutane finally did). I think they have a very loyal following, and they are the only skincare line that fred segal has never dropped in the last 15 years (every skincare line's DREAM is to be in this store). So, if its main ingredient broke people out like crazy, I've yet to hear about it.
Also, has anyone heard of seamollient? This seems to me like a version of red algae gel (with chemicals, though). It has the same main ingredient--chondrus crispus. A lot of people are using SKB (Seakelp bioferment, another algae gel) and Seamollient as bases for acneic and oily skin types. But algae is very concentrated and extremely active (minerals, amino acids, vitamins), so there is always a chance that it would disagree with some skins.
I hope that helps to clarify some things a bit!
AND, let's not confuse everyone with the initials APC: Advanced and Atmosphere have the same initials! I nominate Atmosphere protection cream to be abbreviated ATPC.

Melrose, in Apothia. A long time ago! Ron Robinson gave me my first job when I was 15.
Of course, it was wrapping presents in the office, but my first assignment was to wrap an eelskin photo album for Madonna! I ended up working there on and off (when I wasn't living in VT or SAnta Cruz) for almost 6 years, and they were always so good to me. I've seen a lot of interesting and weird skin care lines come and go!

It's very easy to spend money there. Planet Blue is another one, and I've yet to go to Palmetto.
BTW, anyone ever been to Naimies in the Valley? They have virtually EVERYTHING, and all the industry people shop there. Very inexpensive, high quality brushes, too.

it definitely gets you poreless regardless of skin type because it worked on both avalange and i (not that i really noticed large pores on you -- was too busy looking at your lips). whilst my skin is formerly oily and still acne prone, it has gotten drier with age so.... i can't imagine it *not* helping with redness either, regardless (though you never *really* know until you try it yourself). with dry skin, you'd just use it less.
the cleansing mud kept the red away (except my damned cystic breakouts that will not go away!) for two days. it might have lasted longer, but i weakened and used it again.
suprisingly, it doesn't feel harsh at all -- just active. since you have the luxury of a Fred Segals, i'd recommend bringing your own container possibly and getting a sample.... let us know. |

yogi--you remember when osea was launched there??? then i must have helped you at one point! I hope I sold you some nice products. It was so much fun because there is something for everyone in that store, you just have to find the right match up! And I was just as zealous about osea then as I am now! on that note, do you remember Anna Bayle lipsticks? They were the BEST, kind of like JH years before JH.
and, waffle--no, I worked at ID (Integrand Design), now closed (how sad! it was the best store in SC), the building now houses the sockshop santa cruz. i was in santa cruz basically from 1998-99. I've never heard of farmacy, but then again there are so many new stores in SC, it is quite the bourgeois shopping mecca these days! ironic, isn't it? do you still live there? my former manager at ID now owns a great store called "red poppy."
