If you are still on the search for an answer to combatting enlarged pores, do some research in your area for a technology called "Omnilux". It is a light technology that dramatically improves your skin...from fine lines to texture and pores. It is an expensive treatment (approx $1500 for 6-9 sessions in Australia) but you will see a remarkable improvement in just 1 session! I love it....Good luck! |

My husband has large pores in his T-zone on either side of his nose. The regular use of 30% fruit peels and 12.5% TCA peels has dramatically reduced the appearance of these pores. |

You may wash skin with cold water, because cold water closes the pores while hot water makes them bigger.
I've done laser called gentle-yag,but it's so expensive to do it.Because it must do several times. |

A good thing to do is take a look at your parent's skin. Even if they don't take good care of it, it helps to know the general size normal for you genetically. |

It is nice to read so many suggestions!! It is a difficult issue, and is most likely from genetics/age.
The one thing I have noticed as of late is that regular exfoliation, hydrating products and facial massage has made my pores much smaller and the acne scars almost invisible. The only problem is that one side of my face has horrible break outs...oh well. |

For me, what helped in my pore reduction was Dermadoctor's 'Born to be mild medicated' face and body cleanser, since it cleared my sebborheic dermatitis (flaky skin). I found that the flaky skin used to build up quickly around the pores, maximizing it's appearance. When the dermatitis cleared up, my pores looked better than when I was using pore reduction serums.
Another thing that helped indefinitely was the clarisonic system! And also glycolic based products |

I have the same problem, and it was with me for long time because I have a very oily skin. Now I am in my mid-twenties and the pores are all over my nose and a bit on forehead.
I am not scared of pores if they are sign of youth, not very noticeable...what I am scared of is the pores look loose, skin looks puffy....that's aging...I use Vitamin C serum and some essential oil massage every night to tighten up my skin, as long as they look radiant and tight, I am good! |

What i do to minimize the look of my pores is i use a topical 10% glycolic gel called "doctors dermalogic formula everynight...sometimes every other night. I also use neostrata glycolic peel 1 a week. That has GREATLY helped my pores. And then i also like using dior's cream to powder foundation but in translucent. That acts as a primer underneath your foundation. You can't even tell i have pored when i use it Hope this helps! |

Winnie,
Is the clarisonic recommended for inflammatory acne like rosacea? I dont always break out, but when I do its in little, highly inflamed pimples, or cystic acne. Do you think the clarisonic will help? As well as reduce pore size? WHat do you think?
Thanks, as it seems tempting to purchase on and try it out.. |

You can't change the size of your pores...but you can make them appear smaller.
This is from Fitness Magazine:
Pore size is nearly impossible to change, says Richard Glogau, M.D., a clinical professor of dermatology at the University of California at San Francisco. However, you can make them less noticeable. Try applying a topical retinoid, like Retin-A or Renova, which spurs new collagen growth, helps unclog pores and makes skin appear smoother. Retin-A and Renova require a prescription, but there are also over-the-counter formulas, such as Neutrogena's Pore Refining Cream with SPF 15 and Avon's Anew Advanced All-In-One Self-Adjusting Perfecting Lotion. Don't turn to procedures like chemical peels and lasering, because they can leave your pores exposed at a deeper, wider level, Dr. Glogau advises.
There is an upside to having large pores: Because this skin type tends to be more oily, it wrinkles less than dry, fine-textured complexions.
From Marie Claire:
Large pores are caused by two things: genetics and age, says Harold Lancer, M.D., an L.A.-based Dr. Lancer recommends using a low-strength topical retinol or vitamin C product. Both of these are antioxidants that work to increase collagen and elastin production to give your skin a smoother appearance. |

I use OCM to keep pores clear and AHAs particularly the mandeleic acid on my nose. It has made the pores look better. I knoe people say that it is impossible to shrink pores but I have had several larger pores on my mose over the years and the localtion has moved considerably (different pores are enlarged). I know that this is not my imagination (and I'm talking a years time scale) but I do not know how this squares with pores never shrinking or collapsing on themselves? |

Sharky,
IS OCM really effective in reducing clogged pores? Did you initially break out like crazy? I have thought about it, yet dont really know much about it. What oil combos do you use?Thanks.. |

My skin used to be T-zone but now that I'm older it is very dry in the wintr (even though I do not have small pores).
Yes the OCM has kept my pores unclogged. I do use many other things but I think it played a good role.
I do it differently all the time and do not measure just pour out amounts. I use 20-25% Castor oil and then a mix of avocado, jojoba, grapeseed and sometime almond oils. I sometimes warm it in the micro with a sprig of herb like rosemary (very little don't want to start a fire or make it hot). I then but it
on my face just before a long hot bath (I know not great for you but it is a stress reliever). I rub it in in a circular motion and then cover with a very warm micro cloth, At the end of the bath I use a microfiber cloth to remove it. I love the effect. In the summer if I'm oily I add apinch of salasylic acid.
Good luck, it is inexpensive and works for me, It cleans my pores without drying out my face which is a problem in the winter. |

I forgot the break out question. Some people (not ne) experience break outs when they start. I think this can be controlled by changing your oil mix. |

During the winter it is the only cleanser I use. With the microfiber cloth and warm water it does the job. In the summer I sometimes use the PSF papaya enzyme because my sknin can be more oily then. |

sharky, what did you start using initially with the oils? Jojoba, camelia, emu? Do you use equal parts of each oil in the mix, and then do you mix those w/the castor oil? Does it leave you oily afterwards? |

When I started I just used grapeseed oil, almond oil and about 20-25% Castor oil. I never really measured. I know that the initial recipe called for much more Castor oil but I just didn't like the texture. I believe that Castor oil is necessary to dissolve the sebum. I sometimes add a bit of salicylic acid (for deeper blackhead cleaning) but not often in the winter because I do not want it to be drying.
Now I like avocado oil. I also liked my experiment of heating the oil slightly with herbs (less strong and more gentle aroma than when I added scent oils like lavender).
I do not feel my face is oily after. I sit in the tub for a long timeit sinks in. Also I think the microfiber cloth is really good at cleaning. I usually put on some actives when I get out because the skin is cleaned and "open". |

Where do you buy Castor Oil? Is there any particular type, brand or strength? |

The OCM does seem to make sense. I have exfoliated as much as one can, and my pores are smaller, but still noticable....as a woman commented last weekend...THANKS FOR THE REMINDER!!!
The light therapy seems tempting. I dont expect miracles, only slight reduction. |
