I haven't actually heard of the Bernado/Homolka story until a few days ago when my bf gave me a link to the case history at Crime Library... and I guess because I had never seen any of the docos or media attention on this case, the horrificness probably doesn't hit as hard from just reading the internet articles.

But one thing that is quite apparent is, she doesn't seem remoseful (or that sort of depressed, sullen characteristic doesn't come across).

Just hope that she won't even consider to THINK about finding another crazy guy. Maybe its the relatinship with a deranged psycho that will send her into action.. I think she's probably better or safer off in prison.. unless she finds another scheming way to milk money/publicity out of her release.

Looks like Miss. Ellard is going away for quite some time! http://sympaticomsn.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/1120744096706_116153296?hub=topstories

Not long enough in my opinion. I hope she'll be shuned in society when she does get out.

Listen folks. I just finished reading "Lethal Marriage". Excellent book on biographies of both Karla and Paul, completed with events leading up to how they met, marriage and stormy relationship. I really don't know HOW she stayed with him for the 6 years she was married to him. He abused her mentally and physically something horrible. He basically threatened her and family's lives if she said anything at all about the killings. HE did the killings, she watched. The "present" of her sister to him was not taken lightly by her by all means, however he made her his sex slave and basically held guns, and knives to her head. She was a hostage in her own home.

I just don't understand why she didn't take the opportunity to get away from him. She had many chances to do so. Very good book, if you like true crime, this is the one to read.... Warning though, the killings are written word for word from video tapings that Paul Bernardo filmed.

I Agree!!1 Crying or Very sad It's sad that those poor girls had to sufer by being raped and tortured and then killed. They are probably looking down from Heaven and crying because Karla is not getting what she deserves. How would you feel if somebody kidnapped you, made you into their sex slave, did the unspeakable to you, then killed you without a second thought. You would want both of the people who did this to spend the rest of their lives in maximum security prison! I think that they should hold a huge memorial for the victims on television and all over Canada so that people are reminded of what kind of monster that Karla is. We should keep these girls in our hearts and never forget them because they were still children. Maybe Karla can think about how these girls would have loved to have an iced cappuccino as she is drinking hers. Crying or Very sad

Also... being in an abusive relationship still doesn't justify things. If every woman who was in an abusive relationship did what Karla did then this world would be a horrible place to live in. My ex beat me and did the unspeakable, but I never would have brought drugs home from where I worked to drug my baby sister with, so that he could take her virginity! I would have risked my own life before I let that happen. And afterwards I would have never married him. She could have called the police while she was at work if she was a "victim". But she didn't, thats how we know that she wasn't a victim. Mad

I've read about five or six books about the case. Lethal Marriage was the first, and though it shed some light on her, I felt that for the most part, writers are not representing Karla for what she is: a psychopath, sociopath, an ... enigma!

The two to read (if you can stomach the content) are Invisible Darkness and it's follow-up Karla: A Pact With the Devil. Both are written by Canadian author Stephen Williams, who was in the courtroom during the trials. The second book was released two years ago, and some bookstore owners refused to carry it.

Mister Williams and his partner Marcia have been charged with numerous charges, relating to the (media) publication ban & court orders.
Those books transcribe literally everything that happened in the courtroom, and if you want an honest crime-read, read Invisible Darkness first, the follow-up if you can stomach more.

While Karly-Kurls leads her new life in Montreal, drinking her Tim Hortons Iced Cappuccino, it is likely that she's not thinking of the three young women who should have had this luxury: Leslie Mahaffy, Kristen French, and Tammy Homolka. All three girls were the same age as myself, now 30, and never had the oppotunities that I've had, maturing into a woman. Crying or Very sad

L-R: Tammy,Leslie, Kristen.

I don't even want to think about what it must have been like for poor Leslie and Kristen Crying or Very sad I think that Karla should have written at least an apology to their parents. The fact that she hasn't (12 years later Rolling Eyes ) proves that she doesn't care one bit and that she isn't remorsful Mad
