I got the Face Disk yesterday and could hardly wait to try it out. I've only used it twice now, so these are very preliminary observations.
Yesterday I decided to use nothing but the Face disk. I watched the video once and then plunged in. Although it seems like a lot of steps and a lot of products, it's actually surprisingly simple as a system, as long as you follow the rainbow sequence of color codes on the product pans. I already had plenty of appropriate brushes, so I didn't bother to get the brushes.
The two step concealers are terrific--the right compromise between coverage and sheerness. I overdid a bit on the undereye concealer, but had not trouble tissuing off the excess. I had never contoured before and I'm pretty palefaced, so I was most nervous about using the contour shade pot, but it's very sheer and doesn't look weird or dirty on the skin. The next step is to apply the "pooch and nose" powder along the sides and under the tip of the nose and along the inner eye by the nose. This was the one product that I was unsure of--I think the nose tip trick worked well, but I can't say that I'm convinced about the "pooch" thing. It's hard to shade that area without undoing the concealer on the dark inner eye area. Maybe it's just me, though. The powder blush is very subtle and pretty, just a light pinkish flush. Then I used the brow powder, which is a medium taupe color. As I noted, I have pale slightly yellow-toned skin, but my brows are reasonably prominent with jet black hairs. The taupe is designed to fill in sparse areas of the brows without looking like they're filled in with makeup. For me, the effect was a little too subtle, so I added a little of the darker eyeliner, and it was perfect. Not noticeably made up, just better than au natural. I applied the eyeliner wet by drawing a line across the outer two thirds of the eye as she suggests. It's not very dark, so the look is pretty forgiving of technique. Last of all, she suggests patting on some of the blush over the lip balm. It's pretty for a few seconds, but it didn't last at all.
Overall, the effect is very natural but polished. It was hard to believe that I could get such a good result with no foundation, no eyeshadow, and a much lighter concealer than I usually wear. Excellent results, and it only took about 10 minutes total!
This morning I decided to combine the Face Disk with some additional makeup for a more flawless look. I started with a light application of Chanel Vitalumiere foundation, which I applied with a skunk brush just to even out my skintone a bit. (When I say light, I mean really light--probably a drop or two at the most.) Then it was back to work with the Face Disk. I skipped the "pooch" area entirely, but other than that I tried to use the Disk as directed. Before I put on the eyeliner, I brushed some neutral eyeshadow (Nars All About Eve)over my lids and then tightlined with the wet liner. Then for a finishing touch, I lightly brushed a bit of Nars Albatross highlighter over my browbones and along my cheekbones. (I know Lauren disapproves of shimmer, but these are really subtle.) A quick swipe of lipstick--Julie Hewett Jules today--and I was done. Again, just about 10 minutes and it looked fabulous. I can't say enough about what a simple but effective system this is, especially for someone like me that really doesn't know much about makeup application. The video walks you through the process and the makeup is sufficiently sheer to be forgiving of less-than-perfect technique. It truly is Great Stuff. |

I think so, though it's early days yet. Today I used the Face Disk again and am still loving the look. I tried the taupe brow powder as a eyeshadow, which worked well as a nice neutral matte taupe shadow. I did skip the FD blush in favor of a cream blush, though. I suspect I'll be playing around with the Face Disk and mixing and matching with my regular lineup of cosmetics for awhile. One thing I'm sure of, it'll be indispensable for traveling.
I'm going to experiment with a more dramatic look shortly, because I have a black tie event to attend, so I'll see how the Face Disk works with a bit more lip and eye emphasis. |

Flitcraft - Sounds like you might end up using this the way I do. I've had the face disc for about five years (In September to be exact) and I tend to use it with other favorites. The eyeliner is nice over a pencil - seems to seal it in. I do that a lot.
My favorite is the undereye concealor. This lasts best with a powder over to set. Also like the pooch stuff and I agree it takes a while to get it down but the effect is worth it. I've also used the contour - you can even use it to ...hmmmmmm emphasize the bosom cleavage - I'm still natural there so it's nice to make the best of what you have.
At times I've just grabbed the face disc on the run and I know I'm covered. That's one of the biggest pluses. |

petu, I ordered her mineral foundation and received it today but haven't tried it yet. The reviews I read on it were mostly favorable (light and natural, nicely matte) but a few felt it did not provide enough coverage. I will let you know what I think after I try it sometime this weekend. |

I did purchase her mineral makeup - blush, the whole thing. I don't like a lot of coverage so I think it is great stuff. Very natural, no sign of having on a makeup. I've enjoyed it and have gotten complements on how nice my skin looks - this was in broad sunlight. If you don't like or want a layer of foundation - The light effect might be just right for you. |

I'm going to get a new face disc also. Mine is ancient - almost five years old - I've bought replacement discs but now I want the brown disc - mine is an old silver one. It's been around the block. And is looking like it. |

Mine is a 'new' silver one.
BTW, now you guys have me interested in adding the MMU to my bag of tricks...Do you use it on top of the concealer, or by itself? Does it have good coverage, or is it ver sheer.
You guys have created a makeup monster, thanks a lot! |

I tried the Aqua Elements mineral foundation last night - very nice stuff! It made my skin look smooth and soft but not like I had makeup on. I was surprised by how much I liked this. I only tried it on to see how it looked and then washed it off so I can't say how long-wearing it is, but my first impression of it is very good.
Kassy, I found the foundation had light to medium coverage on me. Some people thought it was too sheer so I was concerned it might not cover anything but it evened my skin out nicely. |

Three more experiments to report on: I tried to mix the Face Disk with mineral makeup, with mixed results. The first time, I applied my mineral makeup, buffed it in, and then tried the spot concealers and sheer concealer over it. That's a no-go--the concealers don't adhere well except to bare face. (In retrospect this seems pretty obvious, but what I was hoping was that putting on the MMU first would decrease the number of areas needing concealer.) Take two: this time I started with the concealers, then went to the MMU. Much better. I skipped the step of "setting" the concealer with powder since I was going to be buffing my minerals over the concealed spots, and there was no problem. After MMU, I went with the shading and contouring and blush. Very nice. So, if you use a liquid or cream foundation, it's foundation, then Face Disk; if you use a powder foundation, it's concealers first, then powder foundation, then the rest of the Face Disk.
Third experiment: Getting a "full face" for a formal eveningwear occasion. This time I started with my "special night out" makeup--Laura Mercier's cream makeup. Over that was the Face Disk sequence--concealers, shading and contours. Over that went Julie Hewett's Cheekie in Jami instead of the subtler Face Disk blush. For eyes, I tightlined with Laura Mercier dark brown cake liner instead of the Face Disk eyeliner--the LM is a tad more dramatic, though still not at all harsh. Mascara and primer were added. Shadow was Nars Abyssinia (a lovely, slightly pearly pale peach pink) with Ashes to Ashes (a medium shimmery grey-taupe) in the crease and Nars Albatross as highlighter (browbones, cheekbones, lightly down center of nose.) Lips were lined in Julie Hewett no. 7 liner with Film Noir as the lipstick. The whole effect is as glam as I would ever get--and definitely a night-time look, but with a long slinky black evening dress, the "I'm at the office face" is not what I'm after.
Bottom line: The Face Disk is all it's cracked up to be and then some. It plays well with other makeup, too. Its real genius is that its products are sufficiently sheer and forgiving to work on a variety of skintones and types. Also, for those like me that aren't makeup experts, you don't need to have perfect technique or placement for good results. |

Flitcraft - Now I want those Nars eyeshadows They sound beautiful. And I don't have Jami either. Oh dear. I'm suddenly feeling makeup deficient.
Kassy - Very Funny about the face disc - it all comes back around. I'm sure your silver is a lot prettier than my beat up old thing. |

Flitcraft, do the concealers, etc work well despite having fine lines? I'm not sure if you have fine lines, but I do, so just thought I'd ask if they settle in or accentuate the wrinkles. I am working on my skin texture but I'm still a "work in progress".
Thanks for sharing your experience! |

I think that the concealers in the Face Disk would work for you. I'm in my mid-fifties and have my share of fine lines under my eyes. The "spot concealers" aren't for undereye, but the main concealer is surprisingly sheer in texture and works well undereye. I'm careful to use powder sparingly over the concealer, because powder can get cakey there.
The concealer that I have liked best undereye is the Cle de Peau stick concealer, but this is much less expensive and just about as good. |

Thanks, flitcraft, this is very helpful. I am 49 yo and my skin is really in a transition stage. Things that used to work, don't; and I'm still trying to figure out what works. I think the face disk would really help me with learning new techniques w/make-up since that area isn't working quite right either. |

i don't know if it is just me, but i can't get the eyliner to really produce any color on me. i tried to wet it as suggested, but still almost nothing. anyone else have this problem? i am fine with using a different eyeliner, just thought i might be doing something wrong |

Are you using the powder eyeliner in the disc, or do you have the one that looks like a pen with the spongy applicator..
I tried the spongy one, and notice that the liquid is just very natural looking. The color is a lightish brown. I find it very natural and muted looking. Really easy to apply as well, considering I'm all thumbs with makeup. |

i only have the one in the disc. the pen one sounds really nice though.
i have to add. i got the free mascara, and looove it. it separates your lashes really nicely, and made them look so long. i was suprised how much i liked this. |
