Thanks Stephanie! You're a doll!
Now on a completely off-topic note, will some of you ladies & gents please take a look at the "Muscular Calves!" thread that I began in the EDS Lounge? If any of you have any advice on how to reduce these bulky, muscular calves that I have (perhaps through some sort of lymphatic massage akin to Tanaka?), I would greatly, greatly appreciate it!!
I would really hate to think that there's nothing that I could do about them (sort of like aging, which is why I'm on EDS to begin with! And I feel that I've learned so much great advice and techniques here that *have worked* to keep aging at bay!)
My apologies again! |

You all are so kind, what a lovely reception!
@ATester, thank you so much for the compliment! I did the massage in full 2 days in a row - last night and the night before last last (I tried it before, but it was hard for me to follow along because I had zero clue what she was saying) and I LOVE it. Funny enough, my fiancé is such a "dude" but he loves the massage and does it almost every night haha.
@Toby, you're so sweet, thank you!!
@Claudia, thank you so much.
@Zoftig, I found EDS shortly after reading about Tanaka's massage and read this thread, and I felt so bad that everyone was struggling and immediately went out to find a translator haha.
@Frodo & Hermosa, I love your names hehe, and thank you very much.

I've started Tanaka massage 5 days ago. Seems to work a little bit , my face looks more fuller and healthier and wrinkles seems to decrease.
I'm using a Cleansing milk for the massage but I would like to try some the essential oils everybody is talking about.
Where I find those oils?? Which would be the best??
Thanks |

Misssalvina,
you have to use base or carrier oils for massage. Those are oils typically referred to as vegetable oils, fixed oils or base oils. I am using avocado or hemp seed oil, but there are lots of them depends which one you like or you skin like it.
Essential oils are distilled from the leaves, bark, roots and other aromatic portions of a botanical. Essential oils evaporate and have a concentrated aroma. If applied to the skin undiluted, essential oils, absolutes, CO2s and other concentrated aromatics can cause severe irritation or reactions in some individuals. Carrier oils are used to dilute essential and other oils prior to application. They carry the essential oil onto the skin.
So you have to learn a little bit about essential oils to find out some combination which will be OK for your skin.
For start you can do massage with avocado oil which I already mentioned. I think that I never read any negative opinion here about this oil, and by time maybe you will find something different what is also good or better for you.
I also tried massage with cleanser, but I didn't like it. Using oil or some massage cream is much more comfortable and I think much better for skin. |

Hi everyone!
I'm brand new to the board, and I found out about EDS and Tanaka massage from VivaWoman.
I couldn't find any English translation videos (just snippets of English transcripts), so I had them translated and did the voiceovers/subtitles in English myself. So just in case anyone needs clarification or follow along easier with an English video, then you can see them on my YouTube channel or my blog, http://www.epicbeautyguide.com
I hope you enjoy!

Mirjana and Missalvia, I wanted to mention that about 1 out of every 100 people are allergic to avocado oil. I just so happen to be one of them. If you are allergic, your eyes will swell up. The first time you try it, you may want to apply it at night, just in case, so the swelling can go down before you have to go out in public again. I only had slight swelling on my face from it but when it got close to my eyes, it was a big problem.
Most people who are allergic to latex are also allergic to avocado. I, personally, never had a problem with latex until after I had a reaction to avocado. |

Thank you SO MUCH Stephanie for the english translation! I have a few questions for those of you that have been practicing the Tanaka massage for a while:
Why is an oil necessary for the massage? I've just recovered from a lifetime of acne and really don't want to exacerbate it (although it sounds like some of you get a breakout even though you've got great skin). Could I use an oil-free moisturizer instead? What would be the difference for the massage's effectiveness?
Those of you that have had breakouts: was that the first facial program you've used in while? For instance, I've been dry brushing my face for a few months so I'm hoping (*fingers crossed*) that the detoxification has already been happening for a while and no pimples will result.
Thanks for any pointers you could give a noob! |

Well, you don't have to use oil of any kind. You can use massage cream or moisturiser - anything you like and what you think is good for your skin. Massage can't be done of course without anything, because of irritation of skin. Pressing and massage of dry skin is not way to do it. Some of us doing massage even with cleanser, I tried it also but I didn't like it. I think that effectiveness of massage is not questionable no matter what you decide to use. Type of your skin should guide you in choice.
As far you had acne problems, I am not sure...be careful if massage can make you new problems with that.
Good luck |

Thanks mirjana - I'm actually kind of freaked out about having an acne breakout. If you've never had bad skin like that, it's just so ... soul-crushing. I mean, I'm 28 and JUST got it figured out. I can't imagine having to go back. But, I really want to try this for the lymphatic drainage properties; I have a pretty fat face with swollen features and I just look tired all the time. And I look like I have a huge head. Really, it's a melon. Sigh.
So, could you (or anyone else) offer up any pointers to AVOID the breakout that so many people are having with Tanaka? Or pointers to make the breakout less severe or shorten it's duration? |

Oh dear murray,
I know what you mean by "soul crushing". One friend of mine here have bad problems with acne and I can see how hard that could be.
I really can't help you because I haven't any experience with that. Some girls here are far more experienced and I am sure that somebody will give you some tips and directions.
If your skin is detoxified with treatments you had, maybe you will not have any problems at all.
I hope that Tanaka will work for you, because it is really nice technique, so simple easy and effective. |

Hi Murray28, and welcome to the forum.....
Without knowing a lot about you, but taking into consideration the "breakouts", I'd recommend you try this;
- Most importantly, is to have your hands and face scrupulously clean. Gentle cleanser, LOTS of rinsing and maybe an apple cider vinegar toner.
- There are an enormous amount of great oils you can use for the massage, but for a skin prone to breakouts, I would think that sticking to perhaps a combination of 'hemp' and 'jojoba' might be good for you (50/50).... Jojoba is especially good for oily or acneic skin because it most mimics our natural sebum. It can actually help to reduce the sebum produced by a very oily skin, because it *tricks* your skin into recognizing it as it's own, thereby producing less naturally... (This is my take on all I have read and researched, and is simply MHO.) |

I'll back Kassy up here. I have oily skin and use Jojoba alone for the massage and it's marvelous. I was a bit skeptical to believe that an oily critter like me could use *more* oil on my face...although scientifically it holds up... still I was nervous. I took the leap of faith and now I do OCM and use oil to massage. Fear gone. |

Stephnie, A great big THANK YOU!!! I have been reading this thread for a couple weeks and trying to figure out the correct procedure. It was so hard to tell what kind of pressure she was using and it was obvious the model didn't have on any lotion. I tried it in the shower this a.m. with just cetaphil gentle cleanser, it worked great! I still have alot of praticing to do. This would feel so great if you could lay down and have someone else do th work!!!lol Wonder if I could train the Hubby? Thanks again, LD |

Stephanie did great job indeed
LD, I don't think that is good idea to do massage in the shower. I mean to do massage without mirror, because (I think) you have to watch what you are doing. Maybe I am wrong, maybe it could be done that way, but I always doing this in front of the mirror.
I am practicing this massage for almost a two months and I really learned every move quite good, and still feel more comfortable in front of the mirror.
There is another one aspect of this. Massage have to be done (by my opinion) with calm, slow movements and that could be kind of little meditation every day. I think that if that could became our small beauty ritual, it can help its effectiveness too.
Under the shower I feel that is not calm and relaxed enough.
But that's just me |

Hi Mirjana! Thanks, I know you are right. I did it in the shower because of time. I spent so much time here reading, doing AALS and Tua Viso that i couldn't afford to not multitask. I'm going to have to set up a mirror at the computer, so I can watch and do at the same time. I keep having to run back and forth, forgetting the move by the time I get to the mirror. LOL LD |

I started doing the Tanaka massage with grapeseed oil, but after a week I broke out much more than usual. Not sure if it's because of the oil, or some kind of detoxing effect from the massage. I've never had much luck with oils, I'm one of the few people who broke out from jojoba. So I switched to doing Tanaka with my (gentle) cleanser, and the breakouts have stopped, except for the occasional minor breakout which is normal for me.
I must say that the Tanaka massage, together with the Ageless exercises, has really lifted and contoured my face nicely. |

Oh, you are not the only one with the same problem. I was always in the hurry and because I have big family, all this years somehow I was placed my myself to the last place of priority day list. So I was start thinking like this... as far as is obvious that I want to take a care of myself and that this must take a lots of time - schedule is keyword My working time at my job is pretty stressful, when I come home in the afternoon I even don't know where to start with housework, children, grandchildren and my mother in law which is very sick. So I decided when I finally finished with my daily duties, that time which I will spent with myself must be quality time, because care which I want to give myself must be something of top quality. If I do that, running all over my house, I can forget all the benefits I want and I can get. It will be just another stress.
I want to read, explore and do all that pretty things to myself which will make me stay nourished, attractive and in good shape.
So as first - few months ago I learned that I must woke up earlieeeer And this 45 minutes or an hour stolen from sleeping means a lot to me. That's the time where I included Tanaka massage and that is just wonderful way to start a morning. At the beginning I was doing it twice day but that wasn't good for my face, so I stick with one time and morning is just perfect for me.
Uuups...I think I bothered you enough for today but I just wanted to shared my way. |

Hi Murray,
I'm someone who has never suffered from spots even whilst handling my skin with the Ageless program but my skin reacted really badly to the Tanaka spot-wise. I was doing it once a day, then twice a day to speed up the de-tox then back to once, but over the two months that I did the massage, the spot situation never waivered (although the placement for the clusters of spots moved around!). I stopped the massage just before the new year, new spots stopped appearing and now the old have dried up and gone. At last I'm back to my usual skin.
Of course being a masochist (or stupid!) I'm now going to do the massage again - it is an incredible technique for facial toning - but start off just once a week. Maybe that is something you should try - just once or twice a week. On a side-note - if you're acne prone maybe using hazelnut or tea-tree oil will help? There's a list of oils here http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewtopic.php?tid=34098&start=100 and what they do which may help. |

Like Miranda, I have never suffered from acne before Tanaka. Switching to the OCM oils helped tremendously with the acne but I still had to stop the massage for the new spots to stop appearing. I'm going to try again with once or twice per week massages now that mine have cleared up. For those of us that get spots from the massage, maybe moderation is the key. |
