Thanks so much, dollbird, for the great reminders.. I get so caught up in the pretty, shiny packages, and I'm printing out your insights.

I have read these guidelines a bunch of times over the last five months to refresh my perspective on how to review beauty products. I have to say that this is a great way to review products critically and I feel like my eyes can look past the clutter to find quality products. Thank you for this excellent post. |

Great tips, and you are right there are no miracle products out there unless you go under the knife. These tips def. helped me look at products more critically. |

Excellent points. It is so easy to get swayed by attractive packaging/clever marketing...and I totally agree re the passage of time and acne products. I will bear this in mind when evaluating products. |

Great points and a timely reminder as I start to peruse all the goodies again. It's so easy to get caught up in the moment and forget what's really important. My biggest pet peeve- wasteful packaging! |

the longer i have been on EDS i realize that there are way too many early product "raves." i admit i am guilty of some of these posts. now, i try to wait 1-2 months of more about writing an ultimate review. |

Yes, some knowledgable, informed contributor with experience in the industry once posted the % of what the pkg costs along with what's devoted to 'schmarketing' as opposed to research of these pricey products. Don't know why we are so shocked to learn of these realities - there's lots of info out there telling us about it. Guess what the psychologists say is true - most of us live in denial.
dollbird Just came across this thread....Love it. I'm guessing you're over 35 (that's meant as a compliment by the way...).
Reality checks like yours usually come with the wisdom only years can bring. And we know years are no guarantee of wisdom either. Congrats to you on winning that one..... |

Good post! I am usually swayed by packaging and price! It's nice to have someone kind of "set a standard" we don't want to run out and buy products that are just "fancy" but useless like what I typically find in a dept. store. |

I personally like the time passage one and the packaging one!! I've brought so many products because of the awsome packaging!!! And, as my rosehip oil expereince shows, time passage is everything! |

Thanks dollbird for the straight forward advice. I totally agree with you on the criteria for an accurate review. I too will research reviews when I want to try a any new products, so honesty, and accuracy are important before I spend the money. |

I depend so much on customer reviews before I buy something. I also fall victim to the idea that if a product is very expensive, it's gotta be far superior than a cheaper alternative.
It's also overwhelming when I read posts from people raving about their own personal miracle product...it makes me want to go out and buy everything they're using. I have to take a step back and remind myself that it may not necessarily give me the same results.
I think we all need to remember how huge the anti-aging hype is and all these companies are trying to suck us in. And most of them are succeeding in doing so. |

I agree with the above - thank you so much for the suggestions and advice. People can so quickly buy into hype (I am very guilty of this) see what they want to see, then face disappointment 2 weeks later when the product fails to produce the desired or purported results.
Thanks so much. |
